The circular dichroism(CD) spectra of the optically active [$Co(acac)_2(diamine)]^+$ complexes were measured in the several protic and aprotic solvents, where acac = acetylacetonate anion and diamine = ethylenediamine and trimethylenediamine. The degree of the CD variation in protic solvents was enhanced as the dielectric constant decreases except n-butanol and benzylalcohol. And the degree of the CD variation in aprotic solvents was roughly increased as both dipole moment and dielectric constant decrease except aromatic solvents and the solvents having no dipole moment. It was deduced that the CD variations of the complexes have been due to the conformational change of acetylacetonate ligands coordinated to Co(III) ion.

Solvent effects on gas phase reactions of methoxide ion with substituted ethylenes, $CH_2$ = CHR where R = CN, CHO and $NO_2$, are investigated theoretically using the AM1 method. Results show that the methoxide approaches in-plane in all reactions, but subsequently rotate out-of-plane to form tetrahedral complexes in additon reactions. All reactions of a bare methoxide are found to be exothermic, the exothermicity being the greatest in the ${\beta}$-addition, in which the excess energy is forced to be contained within the ${\beta}$-adduct rendering extreme instability. However a part of the excess energy can be removed by a solvate molecule giving a stable complex prior to the product formation. The hydride transfer processes were found to be unfavorable due to the high activation barriers. The ${\alpha}-H^+$ abstraction process from acrylonitrile becomes endothermic as a result of monosolvation of the methoxide, in agreement with experimental results.

The temperature dependence of the vibrational relaxation of NO(= 2) by NO(v = 0) has been investigated over the temperature range 100-3000 K. We have assumed that the deexcitation of NO(2) by NO(0) undergoes vibration-to-vibration (VV) energy exchange with the transfer of the energy mismatch ${\Delta}$E through rotation (R) and translation(T). The relaxation rate constants are calculated by solving the time-dependent Schrodinger equation. The sum of V-V, T, and V-V, R contributions shows very weak temperature dependence and is in reasonable agreement with observed data over the temperature range 300-3000 K.

The excitation mechanism of fluorescers for the chemiluminescence arising from the reaction between bis(2, 4, 6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate (TCPO) and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of fluorescent polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons has been studied. A key intermediate is generated from the reaction of TCPO with $H_2O_2$ and then the excitation of fluorescer.

Racemic N-benzylaspartic acid (4) was prepared from maleic anhydride and used to modify and develop some efficient methods for the preparation of N-benzylaspartic anhydride hydrobromide (5). Thus, successive treatment of the compound 4 with 30% HBr in acetic acid and acetic anhydride afforded the title compound 5 in 75% yield. From this compound 5, ${\alpha}$-benzyl and ${\alpha}$-methyl N-benzylaspartates were also prepared.

The four different preparative methods of ${\alpha}-benzyl\;and\;{\beta}$-benzyl esters of N-benzyl-L-aspartic acid from L-aspartic acid are described.

The aggregation between cationic and anionic surfactants was studied by turbidimetric and nephelometric methods with emphasis on facile analysis of the surfactants and understanding of the mixed micellization. The turbidimetric titration of sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) or cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB) showed maximum turbidity at equimolar composition in the SDS concentration range of 0.1-0.9 mM. The nephelometric titration of the same systems extended the limit of analysis to 0.001 mM. The sodium salts of decylsulfate and sulfonate gave similar maxima, but not at equimolar composition. The coexistence of equimolar aggregates and mixed micelles were shown over broad composition range. The aggregation and mixed micellization of the anionic/cationic surfactants mixtures depended sensitively on the hydrophobic character of the surfactants.

Di-2-pyridyl thionocarbonate, prepared from thiophosgene and 2-hydroxypyridine in the presence of triethylamine in dichloromethane, was found to be very effective for dehydration, dehydrosulfurization, and thiocarbonyl transfer reactions. Di-2-pyridyl thionocarbonate was successfully for the esterification of carboxylic acids, dehydration of aldoximes into nitriles, preparation of isothiocyanates from amines, and preparation of cyclic thionocarbonates from 1,2- and 1,3-diols.

Benzotriazol-1-yl Diethyl phosphate and benzotriazol-1-yl diphenyl phosphate were conveniently prepared in essentially quantitative yields by the reaction of diethyl chlorophosphate and diphenyl chlorophosphate with equal amounts of 1-hydroxybenzotriazole and triethylamine in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature, respectively. Benzotriazol-1-yl diethylphosphate was effective for the preparation of amides from carboxylic acids amines. Young test and Anderson test for racemization studies using benzotriazol-1-yl diethyl phosphate were investigated and practically no racemization occurred. However, racemization occurred to some extent during coupling of Z-Phe-Val-OH with Pro-OBu. Several dipeptides and tripeptides were prepared without little racemization using benzotriazol-1-yl diethyl phosphate. Benzotriazol-1-yl diphenyl phosphate was less effective than benzotriazol-1-yl diethyl phosphate in terms of the degree of racemization.

The macrocyclic nickel complex of the molecular formula[Ni($C_{32}H_{26}N_4$)] has been synthesized from the template condensation reaction between 1-benzoylacetone and o-phenylenediamine in the presence of nickel acetate. Protonation and deuterium exchange reactions of the demetallated macrocyclic ligand and the nickel complex have been carried out. The infrared, electronic and proton magnetic resonance spectral data of both compounds are compared and discussed; protonation of the macrocyclic ligand take place at the nitrogen atoms and all the amine protons undergo very rapid deuterium exchange while the methine protons undergo very slow exchange. On the other hand, protonation of the nickel complex occurs at the nitrogen atoms and only amine protons undergo rapid deuterium exchange. Protonation and deprotonation of the nickel complexes proceed reversibly.
