Parallel femtosecond laser processing using a computer-generated hologram (CGH) displayed on a liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LCSLM) is demonstrated. The use of the LCSLM enables to perform an arbitrary and variable patterning. This holographic femtosecond laser processing has advantages of high throughput and high light-use efficiency. A critical issue is to precisely control the intensities of the diffraction peaks of the CGH. We demonstrate some methods for the control of the diffraction peaks. We also demonstrate the laser processing with two-dimensional and three-dimensional parallelism.

We review and report our analytical results in the technology front of optical industry in Japan as optical
$recording^{1)}$ , semiconductor$stepper^{2)}$ , fiber communication, digital$camera^{4)}$ and$OCT^{5)}$ which are contributing to the improvement of people's higher quality of life and to the industrial economical growth from the aspects of the University, Industry and Government collaborations including international comparison to enhance the progress of sustainable global photonic innovation eco-systems. In the following part, some statistics of remarkable economical growth in east Asia and the global warming issue will be mentioned. -

A HMD type multi-focus 3D display system is developed and proof about satisfaction of eye accommodation is tested. Four LEDs(Light Emitting Diode) and a DMD are used to generate four parallax images at single eye and any mechanical part is not included in this system. The multi-focus means the ability of monocular depth cue to various depth levels. By achieving multi-focus function, we developed a 3D display system for only one eye, which can satisfy the accommodation to displayed virtual objects within defined depth. We could achieve a result that focus adjustment is possible at 5 step depths in sequence within 2m depth for only one eye. Additionally, the change level of burring depending on the focusing depth is tested by captured photos and moving pictures of video camera and several subjects. And the HMD type multi-focus 3D display can be applied to a monocular 3D display and monocular AR 3D display.

We demonstrate a novel acousto-optic filter using a two-mode photonic crystal fiber. Thanks to endless two-mode operation of the fiber, single notch over a whole spectrum is obtained with tuning range of> 1000 nm.

High-order harmonics from gaseous atoms driven by an intense femtosecond laser pulse can form an attosecond pulse train. By selecting suitable harmonic generation conditions, the harmonic spectrum can be broad enough to form sub-hundred attoseconds. One serious limitation, however, comes from the inherent attosecond chirp originating from the harmonic generation process. We have proposed to compensate for the positive attosecond chirp by making use of negative group delay dispersion of a metallic x-ray filter or a noble gas. We generated 241-as pulses from neon and compressed them to 106 as after propagating through argon, close to the transform-limited duration of 98 as.

We measured hemodynamic responses of seizure in the mouse brain using frequencydomain near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and electroencephalogram (EEG). We adapted microfabricated optical holder for consistent contact of the optical fiber to the mouse brain. Our results show that the cerebral oxygenation and hemodynamics of mice can be stably monitored with EEG in the mouse brain.

마이켈슨 간섭계 시스템에 두 개의 Convex Lens를 추가함으로서 평면파 참조광을 유지 시키며, 물체에 조사되는 물체광의 조사면적을 변화시킬 수 있는 새로운 형태의 마이켈슨 간섭계를 제작 하였다. 새로운 형태의 마이켈슨 간섭계를 반사형 디지털 홀로그래피 현미경 시스템(Digital Holography Microscope System)에 적용하여 촬상소자(CCD: Charge Couple Device)에 홀로그램 기록 시 기록 가능한 CCD의 유효 영역과 재생 가능 영역에 대해 연구를 하였다

Optical Mechanical splice is essential component to construct for FTTH. Optical Mechanical splice is executed many countries' FTTH including Korea. In this paper, we have designed Optical Mechanical splice using UV and completed a series of mechanical and environmental tests on the optical Mechanical splice. And the results of tests and Bellcore-requirements for optical Mechanical splice will be presented. Accordingly, evaluation method of optical Mechanical splice has gained power to improve the quality and stability of it.

In this paper, the nano-grating was measured by Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) system using digital Proportion, Integration and Derivative (PID) control. Through this measurement, we could confirm the improvement of the vertical resolution compared with analog Proportion and Integration (PI) control method. -
The spatial coherence function of multy-mode beam was measured by using a Sagnac interferometer and self referencing technique. For leaner polarization laser beam passing through a multy-mode fiber, its change value of spatial mode and polarization from stress of faber and input coupling angle. And each spatial mode have each polarizations, when we simulation Wigner distribution function and Spatial Correlation function of spatial multi-mode beam by using Hermit Gaussian modes leaner sum. We measured spatial coherence function of using by multy-mode fiber. One can use this measurement method to study and characterize the property of multy-mode light field coming out of GRIN multy-mode fiber.

Electricity unified field is described based on magnetic theory. Maxwell Einstein Lorentz Equation & pair particle photon model was introduced for Photonics. Refractive index is calculated as deceleration and deflection of photon due to photo-induced surface magnetism. MEL equation was proved with magneto-jet assumption.

In this paper, we investigate the optical and structural properties of linear and circular polarization-discriminatory inverters. Circular polarization-discriminatory handedness inverter is realized as a combination of half-wave plate and Bragg reflector and that of linear polarization in verter is realized as a combination of quarter-wave plate, Bragg reflector and quarter-wave plate.

We investigated the influence of uniparabolic graded distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) using digital alloy on vertical series resistance and reflectivity of DBRs. Measured specific DBR series resistance was reduced to about 8.787
${\times}$ $10^{-6}$ ${\ohm}$ $cm^2$ /period for digital alloy uniparabolic graded DBR. This was better than various graded DBRs, especially biparabolic graded DBR. Reflectivity of 42 pair uniparabolic graded DBR was found to be comparable to that of biparabolic graded DBRs. -

The environmental and mechanical reliability of planar lightwave circuit (PLC)-type optical splitter modules is investigated with references [1, 3]. The module is composed of Y-branching silica-based waveguides on Si connected to optical fiber with UV-curable adhesives and is packaged in a metal case which is filled with humidity-resistant resin. High optical performance such as low loss, low reflection, and thermal stability are obtained through the use of this fiber connection technique. Ten reliability tests including long-term environmental and mechanical and ALT test were carried out for more then ten
$1{\times}32$ channel PLC splitter modules. -

Single polarization modulation polariscopic microscope for visualization of cytoskeleton was proposed for the first time. Algorithm of the single polarization modulation polariscopic microscope has beeen explained and accuracy and precision of the single polarization modulation polariscopic microscope have been measured in this paper.

We present a quantitative phase microscopy for live cells. This method uses the principles of common path inteferometry and single shot phase image. This system has the ability to measure live cells quantitatively with subnanometer path length stability and millisecond scale aquisition time.

광 검출기 앞에 미세한 구멍을 대물렌즈의 켤레 초점면에 놓음으로써 초점에 정확하게 일치하는 빛만 검출하는 공초점 광학 현미경은 마이크로미터 이하의 불투명한 샘플 표면, 구조뿐만 아니라 투명한 샘플인 경우 절단 없이 선택적으로 단면을 관찰하는데 사용된다. 이런 장점 때문에 특정 원자나 분자에 인위적으로 염색 시킬 수 있는 형광물질을 사용하여 세포의 기관 구조나 세포 기관간의 활동을 3차원적으로 관찰하는 생물학연구에서도 공초점 광학 현미경이 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 공진 스캔 미러를 이용하여 공초점 광학 현미경을 구현 하고자 한다.

Polymer optical waveguides are fabricated with high-index materials deposited to strengthen exciations of evanescent field whose birefringence is utilized for optical sensing. Optical sensing properties are examined as a function of time, using different types of analyte solutions to extract noise-free signal induced by evanescent field birefringence. It is observed that sensing signal can be free of initial noise that may obscure real signal recognition, when glycerol is used for sensing characterization, due to slow accumulation process following adsorption of analyte material onto the sensing surface of the waveguide.

High-efficiency high-power red PQR (photonic Quantum Ring) lasers with low threshold currents have been fabricated for low cost and low power consumption, whose structure is based upon high-power LED epi-wafers modified for vertically dominant PQR helix resonance. We experimentally demonstrate resonant-wavelength control of a series of an Si-based photonic crystal nanocavity. The cavities show a linear dependence on these parameters, a 1 nm increase of lattice constant leading to 4.2 nm increase of the resonant wavelength. The results have a small standard deviation of wavelength 1.1 nm between samples on a single chip.

컴퓨터 그래픽의 분야에서 Global illumination을 계산하는 과정은 우선 광선 추적 기법을 기반으로 한다. 가장 늦게 소개되어 사용자 층이 늘어나고 있는 photon mapping 기법도 scene rendering을 수행하기 이전에 광선 추적을 이용하여 photon의 공간적 분포를 미리 계산하는 과정을 활용한다. 본 고(稿)에서는 광학용으로 사용되는 SW를 scene rendering에 활용할 수 있는 가능성을 검증하였다.

본 논문은 광학 탑재체에서 성능예측에 있어 주요 MTF인자를 MATLAB으로 계산하여 기본 광학계 성능 해석 모델을 통합적인 툴로 구현하였다. 그 결과 광학 탑재체 성능 해석에 있어 광학 탑재체의 초기 설계 단계에서 주요 설계인자를 도출하여, 인공위성 광학 탑재체에 있어 지배적인 영향을 미치는 Jitter, Smear, Detector sampling, Detector diffusion등의 MTF인자 및 PSF인자들을 활용하여 광학 탑재체의 성능 예측을 수행함에 있어 간단하고 효율적인 툴을 개발하였다.

This report described the development of Vision Inspector program which can simulate numerically the image acquisition process of Machine Vision System for automatic optical inspection of any products. The program consists of an illuminator, a product to be inspected, and a camera with image sensor, and the final image obtained by ray tracing.

In this paper, we will discuss the spectral characteristics of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) inscribed in two different types of polarization-maintaining fibers with side holes. One showed high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), narrow bandwidth and high bending sensitivity, while the other one showed insensitivity to bending due to the small size of the side holes.

광대역 증폭기의 개발과 아울러 고출력 광섬유 레이저의 개발이 다양하게 이루어지고 있는데. 파장 선택이 자유롭다는 장점 때문에 다양한 구조의 광섬유 레이저가 지속적으로 개발되고 있다. 라만 레이저의 출력 파장을 가변하기 위해서는 출력단과 반사단의 파장 가변 가능한 반사체로 이루어져야 한다. 그러한 구조로 레이저를 설계한다면, 제작 비용이 상대적으로 높아진다.이를 개선하기 위해, 본 논문에서는 비대칭 공진기를 이용하여 파장에 제한 없이 가변 가능한 라만 광섬유 레이저를 구현하고자 한다.

The chromatic dispersion of the germano-silicate optical fiber incorporated with Si nanocrystals was determined with the aid of simulation and demonstrated using experiments, which showed dependence of the launched power and the pump wavelength due to optical nonlinearity of the fiber.

By using transfer matrix method, the transmittance of 1D-superconductingdielectric photonic crystals (1D-SPCs) was calculated. The variance of the intensity and the bandwidth of the transmission are strongly dependent on the thicknesses, temperatures, and number of periods. We, also, obtained a new behavior at different critical temperatures of superconductor materials.

The Panda-type polarization maintaining fibers were fabricated by VAD(vapor-phase axial deposition) method. We fabricate Panda style polarization maintaining fibers that have small form factor($80{\mu}m$ ), high H-parameter of about$1{\times}10^{-4}/m$ and low optical loss of about 3dB/km. -

This paper presents a new approximation for the crystalline lens of the human eye with refracting surfaces based on Gullstrand-Emsley schematic eye during accommodation. A new model eye describes the isoindical profiles in the form of symmetric spherical surfaces. A vary important condition which was imposed upon the parameters (thickness, radius) was the lens volume conservation during accommodation.

본 연구에서 우리는 4축 회전이 가능한 휘도측정기를 가지고 확산판 대신, PLF를 사용한 edge형 BLU의 광시야각, 휘도 및 스펙트럼을 측정하였다. 이에 따라, 우리는 조명설계 프로그램 'LightTools'을 이용하여 PLF와 프리즘 시트가 최적화 되도록 설계하여 분석하였다.
