The study focused on residents' preference for planning components according to preferred size of high-rise condominiums. After being examined not only a brief chronological review of spatial composition and planning components in high-rise condominiums but also residents' attitudes toward and preference for current planning components, this research developed a wide range of planning components included in the questionnaire. The main survey was designed to find out the needs of residents for planning components in relation to high-rise condominiums. Descriptive and factor analysis were utilized to find out the residents' different preference for planning components. The findings of this study showed that residents were very aware of healthy housing, environmental friendly housing and digitally equipped housing, and their preference was different according to preferred size of condominium housing. In other words, residents preferring condominium housing with 99m$^2$ or smaller considered features of safety and healthy housing as important, those with between 102.3m$^2$ to 115.5m$^2$ recognized experiential space, and those with 118.8m$^2$ or larger regarded features of housing management and storage as important. It is suggested that the needs and wants of residents for housing have been various to be customized.

The The purpose of this study was to compare of the characteristics of floor plan and housing satisfaction with two types of housing units, 2-bay and 3-bay. Two bay housing unit is one that two rooms, a bedroom and a living room, are in the front side of housing unit, and 3-bay is one that three rooms such as two bedrooms and a living room are in the front side. 15floor 85m$^2$-sized plans of housing unit were analyzed. There were differences in the arrangement of entrance, balcony, and bathrooms between two types of housing units. The subjects were 200 housewife who lived in 2-bay housing unit and 200 ones in 3-bay one. The residents who lived in 3-bay were younger, higher education and income level, and more home ownerships than ones in 2-bay. The residents in 3-bay were more satisfied with their housing unit than in 2-bay.

The purpose of this study is to identify the problems that a current day care center has by analyzing the space arrangement, and to come up with the suggestion that would improve the arrangement along with the interior design of the day care center by studying the usage of materials, colors, lightings and furniture. The result of this study to follow problems were identified. 1. Classrooms also served as sleeping areas, therefore those two areas needed to be separated. 2. The kitchen was too small for the number of children. So they need separated kitchen and dining room. 3. The day care center remodeled from the ordinary house was wrose than other facilities in material, color pattern and design for child-care. 4. A lot of fluorescent light and bulb were used without enough windows to let natural sunlight in. 5. The restroom was so small that it caused uncomfortability to children. Based on the problems above, we could reach to a following conclusion. Use of primary colors could brighten the image of a room, and feature or creative arrangement of furniture may make it intriguing. With the increase in the expectation and attention to the young kids, the facilities should change according to them and be designed for the children. It is needed to study about whether the space and the elements of the emotional image were applied properly.

The focus of this study was on spatial and interior characterization of recently developed and marketed apartments. The house showrooms in the Seoul Metropolitan Areas that have recently been open were selected and analyzed. The floor plans and relevant materials via website for each showroom provided by major housing development companies were examined, and site visits were made. The finding of this study indicated that high-tech systems were applied to heighten security and safety. It was revealed that various exterior design features were adopted and emphasized, so they affected spatial composition and utilization. Another finding was the use of environmentally friendly materials and features as indoor air quality became an emerging concern. Additionally, it was noticed that features in relation to open housing and interior finishes became more customized to meet different needs of consumers. Therefore, the characteristics of recent house showrooms were summarized into high-tech, environmental friendliness, and customization.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the specific design guidelines for major physical elements like colors, patterns or shapes which can produce the place identity enhancing wayfinding affordability. The research consists with theoretical studies. From the precedent researches, the main design principles enhancing wayfinding affordability were defined and then the list and the nature of the major physical interior elements were drawn, based on them. The result presented that the specific design guidelines as well as design principles could be focused on the categories like generating landmarks, introducing color codes, floor patterns, and wall decorating. In order to understand the characteristics of the Japanese conception of space, we examined the characteristics of Japanese human geography, schools of thought, and aesthetics through the examinations on relevant documents. In addition, we reorganized such cultural backgrounds in relation to the Japanese perception of space, extracting the fundamental principles and elements of Japanese space composition and examining their significance. We propose a structural framework for understanding and analyzing Japanese space based on the reciprocal relationship and meaning among the various elements of Japanese space. Using this analytical framework, we studied the representative works of Japanese interior space, concluding in an analysis of the expressive characteristics of the Japanese notion of space.

Our society is rapidly digitalizing. The effects of his digitalization are very diverse and one of them is that our living environments are changing. Many routine places which certain activities have been taken places are changing. For example, home office, education at home using internet, home shopping, internet banking, and so on. These facts cause the home to be extended and digitalized. That is, as our living patterns are changing, the housing needs are also changing. The purpose of this study is to graspe the digital related housing needs of the residents and suggest the directions of the digital home design. The subjects were 400 housewives who lived in 85m2 sized multi-family houses in Busan. They were relatively young in their age, had high education level, and middle income. On the base of their demands, the digital home designed as follows would be desirable: 1) safe and secure design and digital system, 2) design to improve residents' health and encourge family interaction, 3) human, warm, and soft interior mood, 4) the space composition different from the existing one.

In this study, we try to understand the present condition of elderly housing facilities in Contra Costa County, California, USA. We got the basic information of 92 facilities through the interview with the chief of elderly housing department in Contra Costa County, California. In practical way of research, this study bears various components of the elderly housing facilities, which are type of facility, financial aids, type of apartment, and provided living services. The short summerising of researches are; The present conditions of elderly housing facilities can be classified as Independent Living(53), Congregate Housing(23), Assisted Living(33), Dementia Care(12). The financial aid conditions are shown like SSI, HA, HUD. The types of apartment are studio type, 1 bedroom type, 2 bedroom type. These facilities provides meals, housekeeping, transportation, small pets. As a result of studying the present condition of elderly housing facilities in Contra Costa County, we propose the basic statistical report on the most general type of housing, financial aids, type of services that people of the states want to get.

The purpose of this study was to investigate planning components of floor plans demanded by consumers and to analyze their demands and wants that can be reflected in developing apartment units. The study was conducted by using small group workshops, so that the participants were able to share the living experiences drawn from apartment living and also to point out the improvements of current 4-bay floor plans available. The research result indicate the follows ; The protection of privacy and communication have relation to the separation of master zone and other rooms. found seven specific categories in relation to planning components of floor plans . Respondents wanted new rooms that could accomodate various function, separated the private spaces from public space in center.

Under this circumstance, this study investigated previous studies on interior design guidelines for common space were analyzed using Murtha and Lee's user benefit criteria which emphasizes humanity. In-depth content analysis was employed in this study. The result showed that four categories of the model were related toward more user-centered residential environment-behavioral facilitation, physiological maintenance, perceptual maintenance, and social facilitation.

The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between planning components of branded apartments and family life cycles. The web survey was employed in this research, and 110 responses were utilized for data analysis. This research used four family cycles based on the age of the first child - early childhood, elementary school, adolescence, and adulthood. The results of the research showed that the family life cycle of early childhood desired to have space-related features, family with adolescence wanted living-related components, and the family life cycle of adulthood was likely to consume large spaces

The purpose of this study was to identify the searching method and application of intoner design trend of interior designer. The questionnaire survey were used. The subjects of questionnaire survey were 50 interior designers in 6 interior design firms. Frequency, percentage, and cross-tab were used for data analysis. The major results were as follows. 1) Interior designers thought that consumers visiting at apartment model house were concerned about interior design trend and aware of interior design reflected trend. So interior designer gave expression to interior design trend. And they needed information about interior design trend and consumer's interior design preference. 2) Interior designers found interior design trend or consumer's preference from some exhibition or fair, journal, and internet materials. 3) Interior design trend was mainly expressed in living room design. And Interior designers utilized finishing material and color in expression of interior design trend.

Housing culture has rapidly changed since apartments were first introduced in the 1970's. Among our living spaces, particularly, the kitchen reflects our lifestyle and its changes are more remarkable. Activities in kitchen areas include a diverse range of behaviors such as greeting guests, conversation, and family gathering besides cooking and dining. kitchen areas would not be the dedicated housewives' area, but rather a space for all family members. Kitchen areas become a 'living center' where all family members get together and have various family activity. This housing project was designed for the double income family who is consisted of 4 persons. The total area of Apt was 237.6M2. A residence is always comfortable, resting, and consistent for the family. Intimacy image, functional equipments and space, healthy materials were used for this project.

In the information society, individual, enterprise and nation must be equipped with environmment and competence with which they can acquire useful information anytime and anywhere to process and utilize it in required form. Therefore, this study intends to investigate how digital TV, refrigerator and computer are laid out in the residential space in terms of life space, analyze the preference of residents an d forecast the preferred functions of the products to be introduced in the future. To build frame for making questionnaire tool of this survey, 3 households of the first constructor among the top-ranked constructors in the first half of 2004 were chose and in-depth interview was made from April 12 to April 17. On the basis of result of preliminary survey obtained by this process, the questionnaire was revised and supplemented. Targeting those living at the apartment house in Seoul and constructors ranked in top-four in the order of construction of the first half of 2004, I selected 3 households for each group in the range of 30$^{\sim}$40 pyung. Twelve cases were surveyed from April 19, 2004 to June 5, 2004. There a building called PosPlaza was investigated by PohangJechul(POSCO) in the financial business trade area of Pudong, Shanghai. It has a main building of thirty-four stories with an industrial of four stories as an office area, which is now perceived as a symbolic architecture of Pudong. As for many employers who needed a large-scale restaurant, it was planned to pursue the convenience, to feel the Korean traditions and the cozy of the sunshine through the large flat window with the simplicity as the people enter the main hall.

This is on-going project planned from June to August, 2003 for the development of sub-urban housing of 108 buildings on 30,000 pyung lot located in Dochuk-myun, Kwangju-si, Kyunggi-do. The Site is consist of 10 different building sizes ranging from 45pyung to 65pyung on 180 to 220pyung lot. Buyers can customize their types and functions based on given sizes. Most sub-urban housing until now was based on typical planning and had no regard for its characteristics of diverse location. To solve these problems, I designed each types according to its locational characteristics and gave each lot flexible shape to have identities. To take advantage of its undulation, I put playground and sports facilities like swimming pool and tennis court at the approach. Central square to the center and park and observatory to the top

This Interior Design Studio course provide Interior Design major student a new way teaching method based on the theoretical approach for the reasonable thinking. The purpose of this course is to make the foundation of research cooperation through the various knowledge and research activities.

Fractal geometry based upon the latest complex theory shows different features of design pattern quite different from the past. It is not yet sure which kind of effects it would bring about in the future, we think that it would help to create various spaces and organic design vision. Therefore we will look into the significances and adaptabilities in space design by studying fractal design principles of today's new model in space design

This study has been done to know concretely the designs of traditional American houses in eighteen century and their specific styles based on Deerfiled town and I found out followings. First, the traditional eighteen century houses in Deerfied had a 'L'shape exterior view and a flat facade and the front door made a symmetry with sash windows. A chimney had been installed in the middle of the roof and it usually had a gable with natural materials in a simple manner. Secondly, the most important factor to design houses was a front door and it had been decorated in luxury and in a display. Lastly, the traditional American houses in eighteen century had been greatly influenced not by the that of British which is commonly taken but by the various cultural backgrounds which represented regional characteristics and was rather simple.
