The first life tables of the Korean, the so-called Chosun Joomin Saengmyong_Pyo were constructed by Misusima, the head professor, and his faculty members of Preventive Medicine Department, Division of Medical Science, Keijo Imperial University in 1937. The above mentioned life tables were based on the age specific mortality rates by the resident registration and the data of a couple of total population censuses conducted by the Governor of Chosun Government General in 1925 and 1930. And they revealed the following facts: (1) by the first Abridged Life Tables of Korean(Chosunin), the expected life span of Korean male and female were 32 and 35 from 1925 to 1930, respectively. (2) the infant mortality rate of Korean male and female were 252- and 230-person among 1000-born respectively. In conclusion, nobody knows the level of those Life Tables, but it is important in terms of that they are the origin of Korean life tables.

Kunihiko Kodaira was born on March 16, 1915, and died on July 26, 1997. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1938 with a degree in mathematics. Not content with one degree, he graduated from the physics department at the same University in 1941. He received many honors for his outstanding research. The most noteworthy was the award of the Fields medal in 1954 for his work in algebraic geometry and complex analysis. In 1985, he was awarded the Wolf Prize. In this paper, a short outline of Kodaira's major works and new details of his life are given.

Using some units of length, weight and time, human beings have constructed their own cultures in many regions on earth. This paper aims to study the applied methods of Ching and Pil, i.e. the units of length and weight in the Chosun dynasty and to investigate their meanings.

This paper deals with the development of early group theory. We first investigate how the concept of abstract groups has emerged as a generalization of groups of substitution(=permutation groups) which strongly relate the theory of equations.

In this paper, we explore the origin of the notion of an M-ideal, and appreciate the richness of algebraic and geometric properties of an M-ideal.

Every real number can be expressed as a simple continued fraction. In particular, a number is rational if and only if its simple continued fraction has a finite number of terms. Owing to this property, continued fractions have been a powerful tool which determines a real number to be rational or not. Continued fractions provide not only a series of best estimate for a real number, but also a useful method for finding near commensurabilities between events with different periods. In this paper, we investigate the history and some properties of continued fractions, and then consider their applications in several examples. Also we explain why the Fibonacci numbers and the Golden section appear in nature in terms of continued fractions, with some examples such as the arrangements of petals round a flower, leaves round branches and seeds on seed head.

In this paper we treat the Yeh-Wiener integral and the conditional Yeh-Wiener integral for vector-valued conditioning function which are examples of the function space integrals. Finally, we state the modified conditional Yeh-Wiener integral for vector-valued conditioning function.

This paper introduces an hypermedia program supportable for teaching secondary and upper secondary level geometry. This program links users to files written in other softwares and internet web sites to provide information and exploratory environments with softwares. The linkage with the interactive dynamic software(GSP) files to teach hyperbolic geometry is illustrated with sample screens.

This paper investigates history and modern developments concerning spatial decay estimates for solutions in a semi-infinite cylinder or strip, in which model equations are defined with appropriate homogeneous lateral boundary conditions and initial conditions but left end boundary data are assumed. Our aim is to show this Saint-Venant type decay rate dependent critically on the Poincare constant resulting from characterizing variational principles.

This paper is a sequel to [24]. It is well known that the order structure plays the important role in the study of various mathematical structures. In 1972, Scott has introduced a concept of continuous lattices and has shown the equivalence between continuous lattices and injective $T_0-spaces$. There have been many efforts made to generalize continuous lattices and extend corresponding properties to them. We introduce another class of frames, namely countably approximating frames, generalizing continuous frames and study its basic properties.

In this study, it is certified that the golden ratio exists in the plants, the animals and human bodies(appearance), and is considered how much the ratio of positive and negative is in the psychological, political, social and cultural aspects. The result of this study shows that the golden sections or golden rectangles of the plants(N=58), the insects(N=44), the animals(N=21) and human bodies(N=260) are equal to $0.620{\pm}0.117$, $0.632{\pm}0.203$, $0.625{\pm}0.138$ and $0.60{\pm}0.169$, respectively. The slope in the regression analysis is equal to 0.627(R-square=0.925, p-value=0.0001). Whereas, for the public opinion poll, the ratios($mean{\pm}st.dev.$) of positive and negative of the public mental phenomena are equal to $0.508{\pm}0.179$, $0.808{\pm}0.216$ and $0.711{\pm}0.128$ in the political, economical, and sociocultural aspects, respectively. The slope in the regression is equal to 0.674(R-square=0.764, p-value=0.016). As results, we show that the golden ratio exists in the plants, the animals and human bodies in nature. This shows that the public mental phenomena has some more negative aspects than positive aspects and explains the shrinkage of the public mental phenomena in the economical field.

In this paper, we demonstrate the Pythagorean Theorem by using the computer geometric software, Geometer's Skechpad(GSP) in stead of Eucliean logical proof. Also, we show that two applications of Pythagorean Theorem. The one is constructed by the fact that $ka^2+kb^2=kc^2$, where k is a constant, the other is made by the fractal.

We study on a Mohr-Mascheroni theorem, which is the followings: If a construction problem is solved by euclidean tools(compass and ruler), then it can be solved using only compass. Though it is known that Mohr-Mascheroni theorem was proved by Mascheroni, but we have not any materials concerned with Mascheroni's work. In order to investigate Mohr-Mascheroni theorem, we analyze Euclid's Elements, and we draw some construction problems, which are essential for proving Mohr-Mascheroni theorem. We solve these problems using only compass. Though we don't solve all construction problems of Euclid's Elements, we can regard that Mohr-Mascheroni theorem is proved.

This paper is intended to show that fuzzy logic can be understood in the context of the late Wittgenstein's philosophy. It introduces the view of language presupposed by fuzzy logic and parallels it with the late Wittgenstein's view of language. To make the parallel clear it contrasts the views of the early Wittgenstein and the late Wittgenstein.

In this paper we prove that for all irreducible complex characters of a finite group, there exist F-representations and a finite degree field extension F ⊇ Q, where Q is the rational number field.
