This paper demonstrates how a nineteenth century Japanese votive temple problem known as sangaku from Okayama prefecture can be solved using traditional mathematical methods of the Japanese Edo (1603-1868 CE). We compare a modern solution to a sangaku problem from Sacred Geometry: Japanese Temple Problems of Tony Rothman and Hidetoshi Fukagawa with a traditional solution of ${\bar{O}}hara$ Toshiaki (?-1828). Our investigation into the solution of ${\bar{O}}hara$ provides an example of traditional Edo period mathematics using the tenzan jutsu symbolic manipulation method, as well as producing new insights regarding the contextual nature of the rules of this technique.

When looking for solutions of Jisuguimundo with magic number 88~92 and 94~98, alternating method is applied to each possible partitions of each magic number. But this method does not apply in case of finding solutions of Jisuguimundo with magic number 87, 93, and 99. In this study, it is shown that solutions of Jisuguimundo with magic number 87, 93, and 99 can be found by applying alternating method to two partitions. These two partitions are derived partitions obtained by each partitions of magic number 87, 93, and 99. If every number from 1 to 30 which satisfy every unit path of Jisuguimundo can be found in all components of these two derived partitions, that arrangement is just a solution of Jisuguimundo. The method suggested in this study is more developed one than the method which is applied to just one partition.

The ontological status of Newtonian space-time has been debated under the name of substantivalism-relationism controversy. The debates between the two parties are concerned with the nature of existence of space-time. Substantivalism maintains that the points of space-time have existence analogous to material substance. Relationism claims that space-time should be understood as the framework of possible spatio-temporal relations between bodies. Newtonian space is considered as a three dimensional entity in accordance with our geometric common sense. Yet given that the concept of motion is defined as the change of position throughout time, it is possible to interpret space-time as a 4 dimensional entity. In this essay, substantivalist-relationist debate is considered within the context of non-relativistic 4 dimensional space-time theory. This essay attempts to clarify the dispute over the ontology of space-time by elucidating the relationship between the ontology of space-time, motion, and space-time symmetry.

This paper is a follow up study of [2]. In this paper we analyse the contents of middle school mathematics textbooks published in the 1st National Curriculum Period centered on the concept 'straight line' and discuss how they are different from contemporary mathematics textbooks in view of connectedness of contents, mathematical terms, textbook as a learning material vs. teaching material, relationship between contents of national curriculum and textbooks, and some topics related to direct proportion, function, method of equivalence as a method for solving simultaneous linear equations and so on. The results of our analysis and discussion suggest implications for reforming mathematics curriculum and developing mathematics textbooks.

In the present study, we investigate and compare the International Mathematical Olympiad participation histories of Korea, China, and Japan. Especially, the processes for the first participation of the IMO, trends in team rankings of the IMO, and national team selection systems and education systems are compared. And we investigate and compare the policies for the talented girls mathematics Olympians. Several proposals are suggested for development of Korean Mathematical Olympiad and participations to IMO.
