The title compound, [Cr(OC3H6N2)6](NO3)3·4H2O, was crystallized in the centrosymmetric space group P with two half molecules in an asymmetric unit, and the two complete molecules are generated by inversion symmetry located at Cr atoms. Therefore, the Cr atoms are coordinated to six imidazolidone ligands through the oxygen atoms, and both CrO6 units have a slightly distorted octahedral geometry.

The complex [Cu(L)(H2O)2] (PDC)(1)(L=2,5,9,12-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11- tetraazacyclotetradecane;PDC=1,4-pyridinedicarboxylate) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crys-tallography. The compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1, with a=7.553(1)Å, b=9.619(2)Å, c=10.692(2)Å, α=74.22(1)°, β=73.32(1)°, γ=78.70(1)°, V=710.1(2)Å3, Z=1,R1(wR2) for 2634 observed reflections of [I>2σ(I)] was 0.0854(0.2242). The compound 1 is interconnected to give a three-dimensional network through weak hydrogen-bonding interactions.

Compound [Ni(P(OEt)3)4] (1) reacted with bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (Ph2PCH2CH2Ph2, dppe) to give bis(bis(diphenylphosphine)ethane)nickel(0), [Ni(dppe)2] (2). Compound 2 was characterized by spectroscopy (1H-and 31P{1H}-NMR) and X-ray crystallography. Crystallographic data for 2: monoclinic space group P21/n, a=9.826(1)Å, b=21.167(2)Å, c=21.425(2)Å, β=91.957(9)°, Z=4, R(wR2)=0.0377(0.0882).

The crystal of cholesteryl crotylcarbonate was investigated by X-ray diffraction method. Crystallographic data for the title compound: P21, a=13.510(2)Å, b=11.843(2)Å, c=19.882(2)Å, β=106.88(1)°, Z=4. Reflections were collected with an Enraf-Nonius CAD-4 diffractometer equipped with a graphite monochromator. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by least-squares analyses. The final R value was 0.125 for 2607 reflections. The cholesterol fragment of the title compound were in good agreement with those for related cholesterol derivatives. The molecules were stacked in clearly separated layers. At the center of the layers, there were cholesteryl-cholesteryl interactions between the symmetry-related B molecules and the cholesteryl-C(17) side chain of A molecules. There were also interactions between the C(17) side chain of B molecules and the crotylcarbonate chain in the interface region between layers. The crystal structure of the title compound turned out to be isostructural with those of cholesteryl ethylcarbonate and cholesteryl propylcarbonate.

A crystallographic unit cell can be transformed into another one by a 3×3 transformantion matrix. If the determinant of the transformation matrix has a negative value, the newly transformed unit cell becomes a left-handed cell. The best way of transforming the left-handed cell to the right-handed one is to multiply each element of the transformation matrix by-1, and its corresponding transformation matrix must be applied tot he atomic coordinates of a noncentrosymmetric crystal so as to maintain the absolute configuration unchanged. The behaviour of absolute configuration caused by transforming the crystallographic unit cell was examined theoretically and experimentally on the compound (S)-(+)-4-phenyl-1-[4-aminobenzoyl) indoline-5-sulfonyl]-4,5-dihydro-2-imidazolone hydrochloride.

Ferroelectric SrBi2Ta2O9 (SBT) thin films of Pt/Ti/SiO2 electrode were fabricated using a sintered SBT target with various Bi2O3 content by rf magnetron sputtering. Good hysteresis loop characteristics were observed in the SBT thin films deposited with 50mol% excess Bi target. SBT thin films crystallized from 650℃ however, good hysteresis loop can be obtained in the film annealed above 700℃. pt/TiO2/SiO2 and Pt/SiO2 electrodes were also used to investigate the Pt electrode dependence of SBT thin films. SBT thin films showed random oriented polycrystalline structure and similar morphology regardless of electrodes with quite different surface morphology. A 0.2㎛ thick SBT film annealed at 750℃ exhibited the remanent polarization (2Pr) of μC/㎠ and coercive voltage(Vc) of 1V at an applied voltage of 5V.

20vol% Al2O3-dispersed 2Y-TZP ceramics was prepared by mixing of 2Y-TZP and Al2O3 powder with different particle sizes, and investigated the influence of Al2O3 particle size and sintering condition on the microstructure and fracture toughness. Sintering conditions of the Al2O3-dispersed 2Y-TZP specimens showed high density at sintering condition of 1350℃ and 1500℃ for 1∼5h, and homogeneous microstructure. The grain size of tetragonal zirconia and the fracture toughness increased with the size of dispersed Al2O3 particle. The highest fracture toughness (∼17.2MPa·m1/2) of all specimens was obtained in the specimens with dispersed Al2O3 particle size of 1.0㎛ and sintered at 1500℃ for 2h.
