Problem solving and its mathematical applications have been increasingly emphasized in school mathematics over the past years. Recently it is recommended that mathematical applications and modelling situations be incorporated into the secondary school curriculum. Many researchers on the approach have been conducted in Korea. This study is planning to investigate and establish the meaning of mathematical modelling and model, mathematical modelling process. And also it does the properties of problem situations introduced and dealt with in mathematical modelling activity. To accomplish this, this study is based on the analysis and comparison of those 24 articles. They are ones which have been published from 2007 to 2017 and are included in the five types of publication. Prior to this study, the previous study was conduct in 2007 with the same purpose. Namely, by the subject of 11 articles and 22 master dissertations published domestically from 1991 to 2005, the analytic and explorative study on the mathematical modelling and its understanding had been conducted.
The researchers developed the teaching-learning materials for 9th grade mathematically gifted students in terms of the hypothesis that the students would have opportunity for problem solving and develop various mathematical thinking through the mathematical modeling lessons. The researchers analyzed what mathematical thinking abilities were shown on each stage of modeling process through the application of the materials. Organization of information ability appears in the real-world exploratory stage. Intuition insight ability, spatialization/visualization ability, mathematical reasoning ability and reflective thinking ability appears in the pre-mathematical model development stage. Mathematical abstraction ability, spatialization/visualization ability, mathematical reasoning ability and reflective thinking ability appears in the mathematical model development stage. Generalization and application ability and reflective thinking ability appears in the model application stage. The developed modeling assignments have provided the opportunities for mathematically-gifted students' mathematical thinking ability to develop and expand.
One of the most important activities in the process of mathematical modeling is to build models by conjecturing mathematical rules and principles in the real phenomena and to validate the models by considering its validity. Due to uncertainty and ambiguity inherent real-contexts, various strategies and solutions for mathematical modeling can be available. This characteristic of mathematical modeling can offer a proper environment in which creativity could intervene in the process and the product of modeling. In this study, first we analyze the process and the product of mathematical modeling, especially focusing on the students' models and validating way, to find evidences about whether modeling can facilitate students'creative thinking. The findings showed that the students' creative thinking related to fluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality emerged through mathematical modeling.
If students can use mathematics to solve their problems and learn the mathematical knowledge through it, they may think mathematics useful and valuable. This study is for the teaching through problem solving in mathematics education, which I consider in terms of the problem-based learning and mathematical modeling. 1 think mathematical modeling is applied to teaching mathematics as a problem-based learning. So I developed the teaching model, and showed the example that students learn the formal and hierarchic mathematics through mathematical modeling.
Mathematical modeling is an important part of mathematics education since it can be used or created to find mathematical models to understand real life various situations. Most of mathematical modeling tasks taught and learned currently in secondary school mathematics classes need simple mathematical modelling with one or two variables and produce fixed solutions to the real life problems. But many real life problems involve various and complex variables which can be used to get more proper solutions. Constructing mathematical models to get more appropriate solutions from the real problems having various and complex variables is not easy. In this paper the researcher suggested a model to fit mathematical models to get more appropriate solutions and showed three examples to apply the model in solving real life problems which can be treated in the secondary school mathematics classrooms.

Considering precedent studies in which research subjects are mainly confined to secondary school students or higher grade students of elementary schools, we can notice that there has been implicit agreement that instruction of mathematical modeling is quite difficult to lower grade students of elementary schools. Compared to this tendency, this study aims to examine the possibility of instruction of mathematical modeling for all of school ages, and more specifically, the applicability of mathematical modeling tasks to lower graders. To do this, we developed a mathematical modeling task proper to cognitive characteristics of lower graders and applied this task to the second graders. Based on the research results by lesson observation and the teacher's reflection, some didactical suggestions were induced for teaching the lower grade elementary school students mathematical modeling.
In this study, we develop the mathematical modeling teaching materials focused function units of mathematics textbooks and establish the appropriate teaching and learning model. Using mathematical modeling materials and developed instructional materials for teaching high school students is aimed to improve the academic achievement, mathematical attitude and fear. The problem of this study is as follows : First, between the groups using mathematical modeling and a traditional textbook teaching academic achievement groups showed that there is a difference? Second, between the groups using mathematical modeling and a traditional textbook teaching mathematics between groups showed that there is a difference of mathematical attitude and fear? Third, what are the lessons for the students' responses using mathematical modeling?
In this paper, we analyzed the case of supporting the mathematical modeling activities through the group creativity in everyday class of 9th grade. The details are as follows. First, through the theoretical review, the meaning of group creativity according to sociocultural perspective and the sociocultural characteristics of mathematical modeling were confirmed. Second, we experimented in a classroom consisting of 5 groups of 4 students, and conducted a case study focusing on a well developed group of group creativity. The results are as follows. First, group creativity with various types of interaction and creativity synergy was observed at each stage of mathematical modeling. According to the stag e of mathematical modeling and the type of interaction, different creative synergy was developed. Second, the developed group creativity supported each step of mathematical modeling. According to the stage of mathematical modeling and the type of interaction, group creativity supported mathematical modeling activities in different directions.
