In recent years, active developments have taken place in Southeast Asia in various aspects of deep foundations. Some of these developments are reviewed in this Paper. These include techniques of behaviourial analysis such as Chin's Plot and Balasubramaniam's Pull-out Test. Also included are recent advances in small size piles, large bored piles and caisson foundations. The performance of and the experience gained in some of these foundations are highlighted.

Static formulae based on limiting equilibrium theories often provide misleading predictions of pile bearing capacity in cohesionless soils due to the incorrect basic assumptions or oversimplification of actual soil conditions. Soil conditions prior to pile driving are significantly changed after pile installation and imposition of high stress levels. Therefore soi1 parameters at failure rather than those obtained at initial conditions should be used in application of static formulae. In this research. model pile test data were analyzed and compared with the predicted values obtained from the various static formulae. The results showed that the proper choice of soil parameters remarkably improve the reliability of static formulae.

말뚝의 지지력 결정은 그 결과로 부터 설계내역이 결정되기 때문에 중요하다. 말뚝의 지지력 결정방법에는 수많은 방법들이 있지만 실무에는 극히 일부분만이 적용되고 있다. 최근 국내 실태조사에 의하면 SPT N 값을 기준으로 한 Meyaerhof공식이 거의 모든 설계에서 적용되고 있으며, 시공중에는 항타공식과 Eoh는 말뚝 재하시험도 실시되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이들 3가지 방법들을 분석 비교하였다. 분석결과 말뚝재하시험 이외에는 그 신뢰도가 극히 불량하였다. 그리고 말뚝 재하시험 결과의 분석에 있어서, 선단지지력과 주면마찰력을 분리측정하지 않으면 결정적인 오차를 유발할 수 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 따라서 선단지지력과 주면마찰력의 분리측정에 의한 말뚝재하시험이 가장 신뢰도가 높은 말뚝지지력 결정방법으로 추천할 수 있다.

The jointing method of PC pile installation, which utilizes steel sleeve, is most popular for the deep bearing stratum( deeper than 15m ) or the irregular bearing stratum depths. However, this method has some difficulties in safety because there is no optimum standards of steel sleeve. This research attempts to determine the optimum standard of steel sleeve for 350mm PC pile, which is most widely used, through bending moment test designated by KS and numerical analysis using finite element method. According to the results, the optimum length of steel sleeve is three times longer than diameter of pile, and the thickness of steel sleeve is more than 2.5mm.

본 연구에서는 말뚝과 관련하여 실무 기술진에게 각종 개념에 대한 이해도를 증진시키며, 국내 설계시공 관련한 제반 문제점을 조사 분석하여 이에 대한 해결 방안을 제시할 뿐 아니라 건설공해로 지칭되는 각종 공해중에서 특히 항타작업에 따라 유발되는 진동과 소음에 대하여 지반조건과 항타 방법에 따른 전파특성을 알아보고 측정 결과와 민원조사 결괄르 통하여 현재의 관리기준을 검토하였다.
