Purpose: Recently, Issues on security for vehicles are getting increased all around the world. Especially, hood panel needs to be thinner for the protection of pedestrians. But thinner panel makes durability get worse. So, it is needed to satisfy both of them. Methods: Durability effectiveness will be studied because properties and assembly allowance of over-slam bumper mostly affects durability of hood panel. Overlap of over-slam bumper can be made in production line and it can affect durability of spot welding in hood inner panel. Daguchi method is used to catch the condition in which load gets smaller and location, hardness and quantity of overlap are selected to be factors. Durability effectiveness is analyzed with the factors. Result: the mechanism that affects on spot welding is identified. The test was conducted in both open/close and driving condition and the relation between both conditions is analyzed. Conclusion: The test contributed to durability of hood panel with optimization of over-slam bumper.

Purpose: PBA buried in underwater requires high reliability because of its mission critical characteristic and harsh operational environment during its life cycle. Therefore, various reliability improvement activities are necessary. The defect on PBA manufacturing process have been studied, as a result, many activities and standards have been presented. However, there are less studies regarding failure pattern on physical features based on design. In this paper, we studied a possible failure patten based on physical features that is related with manufacturing process of PBA. And reliability improvement design based on PoF (Physical of Failure) were intruduced in this paper. Methods: A reliability prediction simulation were performed on the components A and B of the H system using Sherlock Software which is a PoF commercial tool from DFR solution. Solder fatigue and PTH fatigue analysis based on thermal cycling profiles and random vibration was analyzed on three earthquake response spectrum. Result: It was validated that life time and reliability improvement design through solder fatigue and PTH fatigue analysis in case of component. For compoenet B, random vibration fatigue was additionally analyzed and validated reliability for earthquakes profile. Conclusion: In design stage prior to manufacturing, PoF can be analyzed, and it is possible to make a reliability improvement/validated design using design data. This study can be applied in every design step and contribute to make more stable development product.

Purpose: This paper will focus on the reliability technological innovation following the emergence of industry 4.0 featured by convergence, connection and complexity. In the course of the process, the concept and application of 3R (Robustness, Redundancy, Resilience) are considered along with reliability in industry 4.0. Methods: Reliability paradigm-changes are presented to meet the purpose of keeping the desired function in Industry 4.0. And the introduction of resilience, a concept compromising reliability is to be suggested. Results: The necessity of the 3R (Robustness, Redundancy, Resilience) introduction is emphasized according to reliability paradigm-changes. Conclusion: Reliability, robustness, redundancy and resilience are not mutually exclusive. Ultimately, acquiring the resilience requires robustness, redundancy and fittable maintenance procedures.

Purpose: Recent weapon systems in defense have increased the complexity and importance of software when developing multifunctional equipment. In this study, we analyze the accuracy of the proposed software reliability model when applied to weapon systems. Methods: Determine the similarity between software reliability analysis results (prediction/estimation) utilizing data from developing weapon systems and system failures data during operation of weapon systems. Results: In case of a software reliability prediction model, the predicted failure rate was higher than the actual failure rate, and the estimation model was consistent with actual failure history data. Conclusion: The software prediction model needs to adjust the variables that are appropriate for the domestic weapon system environment. As the reliability of software is increasingly important in the defense industry, continuous efforts are needed to ensure accurate reliability analysis in the development of weapon systems.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to propose procedure and methodology for developing failure rate databook which is suitable for Korean operation environment. Methods: To this end, we investigate failure databooks used in foreign countries and study the procedure and methodology for collecting failure data, organizing the data, estimating failure rate and summarizing results. Results: We develop the procedure of development of failure databook, the items for data collection, database schema of part details and part summary and contents of failure databook by considering the application environment in Korea. Conclusion: The results of our research could be utilized for the development of Korean failure rate databook and research of reliability prediction model and could ultimately contribute to improve the accuracy of reliability prediction.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the replacement cycle applied age replacement policy by reliability analysis based on railway vehicle contactor's failure history data. Method: We performed reliability analysis based on railway vehicle contactor's failure history data. We found a suitable distribution by goodness of fit test and predicted the reliability through estimation of scale & shape parameter. Considering cost information we determined the replacement cycle that minimize the opportunity cost. Result: Suitable distribution was the Weibull and scale parameter & shape parameter are estimated by reliability analysis. The replacement cycle was predicted and MTTF, $B_6$ percentile life were suggested additionally. Conclusion: We confirmed that failure rate type of railway vehicle contactor is degradation model having a time dependent characteristic and examined the replacement cycle in our country's operating environment. We expect that this study result contribute to railway operation agency for maintenance policy decision.

Purpose: There is active research that improves both reliability and fatigue life of structures which widely used in the aerospace fields of defense industry. The effects of three parameters (pressure, peening time, nozzle distance) on Almen intensity and coverage will be investigated by using the experimental and analyzed data. Methods: we employed a Box-Behnken design. Additionally, to verify the validity of the optimal condition obtained from experimental results, metallurgical analyses of the shot-peened aerospace part were conducted with respect to surface morphology, residual stress. Results: Optimal shot peening condition is determined as (distance, pressure, time) by optimizing simultaneously the two responses of intensity and coverage. At the optimal peening condition the prediction interval for Almen intensity is well within the required range. And, the validity of the condition was checked by using the real aerospace aluminum alloy plate. Conclusion: Shot peening introduces significant levels of compressive residual stress and induces improves both reliability and fatigue life of structures.

Purpose: In this study, the lifetime distribution of a k-out-of-n system with heterogeneous components is suggested as Markov model, and the time-to-failure (TTF) distribution of each component is considered as phase-type distribution (PHD). Furthermore, based on the model, a redundancy allocation problem with a mix of components (RAPMC) is proposed. Methods: The lifetime distribution model for the system is formulated by the structured Markov chain. From the model, the various information on the system lifetime can be ascertained by the matrix-analytic (or-geometric) method. Conclusion: By the generalization of TTF distribution (PHD) and the consideration of heterogeneous components, the lifetime distribution model can delineate many real systems and be exploited for developing system operation policies such as preventive maintenance, warranty. Moreover, the effectiveness of the proposed RAPMC is verified by numerical experiments. That is, under the equivalent design conditions, it presented a system with higher reliability than RAP without component mixing (RAPCM).

Purpose: This paper evaluates the reliability of tapered grid couplings and presents test results through performance and life tests. Methods: The performance and life test method were presented by analyzing the failure modes for the tapered grid coupling. Zero failure test time was calculated to evaluate the reliability of tapered grid couplings and the test was performed under accelerated conditions. The nondestructive test and wear analysis using weighing were also carried out to check the failure modes of the field conditions. Conclusion: This study can be provided to improve the product reliability through failure analysis of a tapered grid coupling. The performance test results of before and after the accelerated life test were presented to confirm the improved reliability of the tapered grid coupling.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to establish the life test method for ceramic heater and identify the failure mechanisms. Methods: We do accelerated life test in the condition of thermal shock and failure analysis for failed samples. Conclusion: The main failure mechanisms of ceramic heater are identified as overstress failure mechanisms as results of failure analysis and the shape parameters of weibull distribution by accelerated life test are identified as 0.8, 1.2 and 0.4 each at $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$. At $900^{\circ}C$, the shape parameter 0.4 means that It is exactly initial failure caused that the stress exceeds the strength of ceramic heater highly and the shape parameters 0.8, 1.2 at $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ means that the shape parameters are around 1.0 so that the main failure mechanism is overstress failure which is same result as failure analysis. It means that the appropriate life test method for ceramic heater is reliability qualification test method rather than accelerated life test.

Purpose: Recently, the government of China has established new safety regulations for towing devices. The new Chinese regulation has more unfavorable conditions than the conditions of other countries. So the various measures have been reviewed to satisfy this regulation. Methods: The regulation conditions were compared through analysis of strain energy, and a method for improving the accuracy of analysis is suggested. In addition, the test method considering the tolerance is presented through tolerance analysis. This paper also explained importance of confirming the quality of products through a case of poor quality of Chinese products such as poor heat treatment. Result: We could know how strong Chinese regulations are stronger than other national laws and investigated which member receives a lot of strain energy. In order to cope with these Chinese regulations, we suggested improvement of analysis accuracy, test method through tolerance analysis, and heat treatment quality. Conclusion: This paper contributed to general counterplan of the strengthened new Chinese regulations for towing device.
