This paper examines the individual and social values of tour and recreation activities related to the characteristics and attractions of parks in urban area through a questionnaire. The data for this research consists of 2,942 samples based on interviews in sixteen parks in Daegu area. Implications of the findings for urban parks design and tour and recreation policy are discussed. Travel cost method and contingent valuation method are applied essentially. These methods yield a reasonable estimation of the relationship between tour and recreation values of the parks and the visit rate which can be used to estimate demand functions for tour and recreation experiences provided by a site. Semilog-type models can be used to estimate the use of the park. Finally, the tour and recreation value of each park per user-day is estimated by the total experiences of the users. This study is a modest but important step in the investigation of urban parks and recreation site demand and values. Many of the developments in contingent valuation method and travel cost modeling should now be applied to the urban scale parks and recreation sits. Such studies will contribute significantly to the improvement of methodology for tour and recreation values measuring, especially to individual and social benefits for the urban parks, and provide the much needed guidance for the allocation of scarce tour and recreation resources.

Based on the data gathered by on-site survey at six universities, this study examines the relationships between the level of knowledge about regulations and depreciative behavioral intentions in National Park management. 558 students are participated in the survey. Among those agreeing to take part in the survey, 54.5% are males and 45.5% are females. Generally most students are very interested in the environmental problem in national parks. The mean of knowledge about regulations in national parks score 57, and females have higher mean scores than male student. In all four dilemmas, significant negative correlations are observed between the likelyhood of a prosocial action and the likelyhood of an antisocial action. In other words, the more likely the intention to obey a regulation in any dilemma situlation, the less likely the intention to disobey a regulation, and vice-versa.

The purpose of this study was to suggest basic natural park planning guidelines which have to be considered before conservation plan. For this purpose, land potentiality was analyzed in the regional context. Natural parks in Tokyo Province were chosen as study areas because park systems in Japan and Korea are similar and lots of information are available in Japan. Land capabilities of study areas were analyzed, then the results were utilized to discuss how the natural parks. Land potentiality was analyzed by the degree of location quotient of land use allowance in homogeneous bio-physical land units, then comprehensive potentiality of bio-physical land units was revealed from existing and historical land use allowance. These 2 allowances, also, were utilized to find the limit of land use intensity, and the results were used for qualitative identification of the land potentiality and the land capability. As a results, the land use allowance and characteristics of 6 groups were identified as shown in Table 3 and Figure 6. Qualitative analysis of land potentiality in this study enabled to disscus the conservation and/or preservation of natural parks, based upon elements of land, and the guidelines of natural park conservation policy were suggested from the characteristics of land potentiality and regional relationship. This discussed land potentiality, and existing natural resources which were stressed from conservational view point need to be combined for comprhensive understanding of land resources.

There are lots of forests around the Korean rural village. This study was conducted to investigate the state of the forests by the 15 forests case study of the Kamgok region in Chon-guk-Do province, Korea. The results are as follows. 1. The forests lose mostly original form by the construction of road and forest clearing for the land development business. And almostly the form of the forests is a trapezoid or roundness. 2. The forests were remained on account of the Korean cemetery customs which is burying underground. 3. The conservation of the forests becomes more difficult because of the continuous development pressure. 4. Because the scale of the forests is so small, they aren't named as the natural resort forest by the forest law. So it will be the better alternative that they are conserved and used by inducing the concept of the village resort forest. 5. Because the owenership of the forests exists in a person or a family, the forests will be destructed continuously by the cemetery development. 6. The vegetation of the upper trees in the forests is the simple forests of Pinus densiflora, Pinus rigida and bamboo. The height of upper tree is average 10-12m. And average root diameter is 13-29cm. The age of the tree is average 50 years old. The state of the forests is mostly fine. 7. It is clarified that the price of the forest land is 3-5 times expensive than the other cultivated land. 8. The forests were made by the forefathers for the purpose of the practical use and were reforested in the era 1960s, 1970s.

본 연구의 대상지는 미국 뉴욕(New York)주 이타카(Ithaca)시에 있는 코넬대학교 (Cornell University)의 미혼자와 기혼자 대학원생 및 그 가족을 위한 캠퍼스 주택인 Maplewood Park이다. 연구자인 동시에 디자이 너의 입장에서 필자는 다음의 4가지 방법을 가지고 이 Maplewood Park에 대한 이용후 평가(post-occupancy evaluation)를 실시하였다: 1)물리적 흔 적 관찰(observing physical traces), 2)행태 관찰(observing physical traces), 3)면담(interviews), 4)설문지(questionnaires). 본 연구는 주거 환경 의 옥외공간이 가지고 있는 물리적 특징과 성질에 초점을 맞추었다. 본 연 구는 행태 자료 수집에서부터 완성된 주택단지의 개선을 위한 디자인 제안 까지의 전 과정을 보여주며 주거 환경의 실제 이용자인 주택 단지 거주자 로부터 획득한 체계적이고 객관적인 행태와 태도에 관한 자료에 근거하여, 장래에 있을 유사한 주택 단지 건설을 위한 디자인 기준을 제시하고자 한다.

This study was to analyze the relationship between the community or species and environmental variables of the vegetation landscape in Naejangsan National Park. The analysis was performed by the ordination of DCA and CCA. The study was to compare and analyze the species composition status by the layer and the growth characterisics of the following vegetations ; Torreya nucifera community, Quercus variabilis - Acer palmatum community, Q. variabilis community, Q. variabilis - Sasa purpurascens community and Daphniphyllam macropodum community. The results are as follows; 1. The result of the study on the relationshkp between the stand scores of DCA ordination and environmental variables showed that the soil pH, the ammount of AV-P2O5 and the ammount of C.E.C. tend to increase while Pinus densiflora community changes to Q. variabilis - Q. serrata community and finally Carpinus laxiflora species community siginigicantly. The relation between the stand scores of CCA ordination and several enviromental variables suggested that the species of C. laxiflora and C. tschonoskii the species of Q. cariabilis and Q. serrata the species of C. pisifera, P. densiflora and Q. aliana in sequence grows in more fertile soil. 2. As the result of the analysis of the T. nucifera community showed, reproduction did not increase, and the characteristic of growth was not affected. The result is shown in the growth curve that was damaged by the climate and the human interference. 3. The A. palmatum was found to be as minor species in the middle layer and the crown areas did not have sufficient crown. 4. The result of the analysis of the relationship between Q. variabilis community and Q. variabilis - S. purpurascens community showed a decreasing tendency in the growth and number of species. 5. D. macropodum which constituted the dominance species in the middle layer had a nomal growth curve, and then the successional trend of D. macropodum species seems to be located in the climax species.

A field study was carried out to investigate the visual injury of zoysiagrass and creeping bentgrass by the application of various herbicides the result were as follows. 1. Trifluralin + benefin and dithiopyr did not injure creeping bentgrass and zoysiagrass. 2. Creeping bentgrass was safe while zoysiagrass was slightly injured within acceptable level with benefin. 3. Oryzalin caused injury both on creeping bentgrass and zoysiagrass. However, the injury of zoysigrass was within acceptable level while the injury of creeping bentgrass increased without acceptable level when applied at>5kg/ha. 4. Creeping bentgrass was tolerant to pendimethalin only when treated at<3.4kg/ha whereas zoysiagrass was tolerant regardless of rate. 5. Creeping bentgrass treated with fenoxaprop, oxadiazon, and bensulide were severely injured. However, turfgrasses treated with bensulide recovered rapidly when compared with fenoxaprop and oxadiazon. 6. Zoysiagrass treated with 2,4-D, dicambe, bentazon was safe when applied at mid summer.

Until now, Many studies on the traditional landscape architecture were approached to the interpretation of meanings and symbolism in terms of the traditional ideology and the view of nature. The purpose of this study was to research the principle of form included in the space planning by the analysis of the drawing figure. The principes of figure were presented in the space planning as the field of art. In the pavillion and square pond, drawing figure, based on the principle of simple proportions, shall be assured the value of being as a role of functions for planning first of all. Such principles of the functional aspect are in hormony and balance by proportion and thus a visual and structural aesthetic will be abled to refer.

This study was surveyed the vegetation on the 2∼3 walls at 22 districts in Seoul to get basic data for wall planting in urban environment. The results were as follows: 1. 45 families, 90 genera and 113 species were grown on the walls in Seoul and woody wall plants were 30 species(26.5%) and herbaceous plants were 83 species(73.5%). 2. Of 30 woody species, evergreen species were 7(23.3%) and deciduous species were 23(76.7%). 3. Of 83 herbaceous species, annuals were 43(51.8%), biennials 12(14.5%), and perennials 28(33.7%). 4. Climbing wall plants were 28 species(24.8%). 5. 35 species(31.0%) were planted artificially and 78 species(69.0%) were self-grown plants. 6. Of 138 planted walls, 46 walls were covered with Parthenocissus tricuspidata(33.3%), 11 walls Forsythia koreana(8.0%), 9 walls Pharbitis nil(6.5%), 9 walls Wisteria floribunda(6.5%), and 8 walls Rosa multiflora var. platyphlla(5.8%). 7. In the comparison of native and exotic plants on the walls in Seoul, native species were 84(74.3%) and exotic were 29(25.7%).

When we put a construction on the space organization form of Seyeon-jong garden through a consequence of drawing analysis, we were able to certify that a certain space construction principle was applied as following. First, the arrangement and organization of space construction element embodied systematic order y clearing the character of space, and heightening the degree of cognizance with the means of functionability, scale, height, decorationability, an inclination of artificiality and nature, systemetic approchability. Second, the space construction element of Seyeon-jong garden pursued a harmony of human work and nature for creating a various atmosphere and visual quality. Third, Seyeon-jong garden constructed the space by establishing the measurement of human scale that introduced a conception of near, middle, distant view on the visual angle. Forth, Yun go san introduced the natural shape of 'The song of five friends' as a construction element, and represented the symbolism that he had seeked for throught he arrangement method, christening, composing technique of the space construction element for expressing ideal space which is described in 'The four season song of fishermen' spatially at Seyeon-jong garden. As the results of this study, that Yun go san created his own ideal space that he longed for at Seyeon-jong garden with applying fixed design system, and he realized his will that he strived to form a complete whole in perfect harmony.

This study is practically focussed on the derivation of the formula of the reach of the catchment of urban community parks and the reached distance to the parks. The hypotheses for the formula are as follows. a. The catchment of urban community parks can be dependent on the quantitative characteristics that urban community parks have substanial factors : the potential residential population of the proximate community to a park, park visitor's day and mean usetime per year. b. The distance to the urban park is a decided variable which can be percieved quantitatively by the researchers among the exogenous variables concerned with the mean usetime of the urban community park. The data for the variables were collected from the statistics, and the surveys for 9 parks of 4cities(Seoul, Chong-ju, Su-Won, Chon-an) in Korea, which were divided into on-site samples and off-site ones in 1991. The data were collected by questionaire surveys. A total of 548 questionaires of off-site surveys were completed by the residents in the enticing area of the parks. A total of 1053 questionaires of on-site surveys were completed by the visitors of the parks. The research could attempt to derive a formula, which was concerned with the reach of the catchment of urban community parks and the reached distance to the parks. It is testified(R2>0.8) that the numbers of mean usetime per year should be related with the reached distance from a visitor's house to a proximate park. The formula is analogized with an exponential function: {{{{ Mean Usetime per year=f(x)=Ae-BK+Ce-DK ear, X is reached distance from a visitor's house to a proximate park. A,B,C and D are parameters. And, the differences of the reach of the catchment of the parks are not only testified with resulting from the differences of the exogenous variables of qualitative characteristics differences of the parks, but also divided separately into spatial ranges. This formula will be able to anticipate the visitor's numbers of a planned urban community park.

Urban parks and open spaces provide the community residents with the most easily accessible source for outdoor recreation, contributing also to the improvement of quality of natural environment in urban area. The demands of urban residents' for more and better green area are ever-increasing. However, the level of most urban open spaces which are easily accessible for residents are not satisfactory to meet the residents' demand in availability and in quality as well. Most existing urban open spaces are simply built of green areas only or have been developed in almost identical design with little consideration for individual uniqueness of the site. When developing neighbourhood parks in urban housing complexes, for example, little consideration is being given to topographical conditions, interrelation with the adjacent green area, or viability of the urban ecosystem. In many cases, urban park development projects are being done with serious negligence of natural properties of the site, by even destroying existing healthy woodlands. for instance. The objectives of this study are; -To survey on the domestic and the overseas cases of regulatory systems, development status and planning methods for urban open space. -To identify underlying issues of residental park developments in urban housing projects and establish appropriate improvement measures thereof, by studing and analyzing current-use data of developed urban parks and management status thereof. -To establish improved standards for urban open space planning, by integrating above surveys and studies, and recommendation for revision of related legislation is also presented to implement these standards.
