This study was conducted to investigate the plant community structure and to propose ecological management planning for the urban forest on Sungdongku, Joongku and Yongsanku in Seoul. Field survey was excuted October 1991 and the results were as follows. Robinia pseudoacasia community covered 61.1% and Populus x albaglandulosa covered 3.8% of survey site II and survey site was covered by the deciduous-broad leaf mixtured forest. According to the human impact and inappropriate management impact, survey area was divided into five forest community. As for the analysis of plant community structure which was classified into five forest community, the importance values, ecological diversity, number of species, number of individuals, basal area and crown coverage of the native plant community showed relatively higher than community that vegetation deterioration degree by the human impact showed seriously. In landscape forest of Mt. Daehyun, it showed problems for the planting method and the soil condition. So it was proposed to management guide, vegetation restoration and soil management through ecological management planning based on above results.

The purpose of this study is to interpret the landscape meaning of village grove and then combines this interpretations with landscape planing if it is possible. So we chose four village groves among seven villlage interpretations with landscape planing if it is possible. So we chose four village groves among seven village groves in HAMPYUNG & YOUNGKWANG Province(CHONRANAMDO, KOREA). The reason why we did it is that the meaning of korean groves is divided into three types(Confucianism, Feng-shui, Native belief etc.) according to original planting reasons. This study was done mainly by both referring to the regional character of those types and examining the nature of grove meanings. As a result of this process, we are able to find three demensions which were explained by physical-ecological, user's behavioral and cultural meaning. 1. Physical landscape of village grove is composed with ecological meaning that is related with people's land use not only inside but outside of it. So this kind of ecological meaning is the mutual relation among physical elements of village groves, for example old high trees, surface, user's facilities, land use around a grove and soon. 2. User's behavior meaning of grove shows that it has high relation with physical dimension, for example distance and accessiblity to a grove, linkage with open space around a village and so on. User's behavior inside of grove is usually divided into three types(recreation, play, ritual services). Especially, we were able to find a tendency to have numerous people use in the case of a village grove well to preserve its ritual service. 3. Cultural meaning of grove has the holistic character which usually defines the regional theme of each village and village grove(Confucianism, Feng-shui, Native belief etc.). So, the Landscape meaning of village grove is not only a physical shape but a certain concept existing inside of village grove. This diversed meaning existing in a grove have a direct effect on good fortune or misfortune of a village and its dwellers.

The purpose of this study was to suggest objective basic data for landscape research which cotained interdiciplinary approach between ecological and psychophysical method. For this, the naturalness and preference in greenary space, spatial image structure of physical elements have been analyzed by correlation coefficient and factor analysis algorithm. The results are as follows; 1. The relation between the estimation of naturalness and the preference in natural forest was deeply correlated. And the estimation of naturalness was higher than the estimation of DGN(Degree of Green Naturality). 2. The estimation of naturalnesss was decided by the physical features of forest and was different from the DGN. 3. Factors covering the spatial image of the forests have been found to be the 'overall evaluation', 'ability', 'naturalness' and 'idiosyncracy'. By using the control method for the number of factors, T.V. has been obtained as 61.68%. 4. The factors of the 'overall evauation', 'naturalness' were found to be the main factors determining the visual preference of greenary space.

The purpose of this study is to interpret the townscape of Kyungju based on the urban images captured by citizens. 58 verval interviews and 50 sketch maps were collected and analized comparing with York which was a similar old city in England. In the verbal questions, elements like tombs, historic remains, families and historic values were frequently mentioned mainly because of their social and historic meaning. But in the sketch maps, physical elements like railroad station, city hall, roundabouts and streets were more frequently appeared probably because of their visibility. As a whole, many tombs which were built long ago in and around the city were commonly mentioned in verbal questions, sketch maps and even in nicknames. As the most dominant factors, it can be compared with York Minster in York. But whereas the shopping streets in York were very attractive to the people, many streets in Kyungju were regarded as dirty and inharmonious elements in townscape. In conclusion, we can call Kyungju 'the city of tombs', but to evoke the sense of place in the city the streets should be improved and activated as the center of city life.

The purpose of this thesis is to suggest objective basic data for the super graphics in the urban landscape through the quantitative visual quality analysis. For this, the image structure of super graphics have been measured mainly by questionnaries and semantic differential scle method and analyzed by the method of factor analysis, means and multiple regression. Degree of visual preference have been measured mainly by questionnaries and likert attitude scale method and finaly these data have been analyzed by using the stepwise method. The data were collected by presenting 12 super graphics photographs-4 each sample pictures from the 3 each selected districts representing typical urban landscape style(central business district, shopping district, apartment complex). Observer groups were categorized as professionals, students, the others. Result of this thesis can be summarized as fallows: 1. From all 12(3${\times}$4) sample super graphics, the value of each semantic differential scale among the observer groups were presented significant group difference. But no significant difference of the S.D. scale value were observed among central business district, shopping district and apartment complex super graphics. 2. For all experimental points, 4 types of factor have been observed. Factors covering the image of super graphics were found to be the evaluation, the intimacy, the potentiality and the tidiness. 3. Main factors of the super graphics image and factors indicating the group variations yielded high significance between areas. 4. The harmony with surrounding environment, the proper selection of super graphics subject yielded high values for all groups. Especially, the good color sense with building was the most important variable determining the degree of visual preference. 5. The urban C.B.D. super graphics obtained 5∼12 ranks of regional visual preference and the shopping district super graphics obtained 2∼11 ranks, and apartment complex super graphics obtained 1∼7 ranks.

This paper is to propose an interpretation method of urban landscapes in Korea, which are formed and transformed in the course of modernization. As the theoretical basis, an extensive study is done to define the concepts of urban landscape; townscape in the architectonic terms, urban landscape in the cultural-geographical terms, and urban landscape in the landscape ecology are those scrutinized. As for the interpretation method, the landscape process that encompasses the spatio-temporal transformation, the causes and effects of morphogenesis, the contents and forms of landscape change are studied. The emphasis is placed on the reasons and process of the cultural change from the original landscapes toward the contemporary landscapes in the rapidly urbanizing area. With these basic concepts and interpretation method, an on-site case study of 'Inchon' that has been changed drastically since the late 19th century is done, of which results will be reported in the following article(II).

The purpose of this study is to analyze th especificity of landscape construction progress in order to develop the model of landscape construction schedule management. Nine case study area in housing complex was selected and the graphic curve of the accumulative payment by landscape construction schedule was analyzed. And the results are as follows: The graphic curve of common construction progress is S-curve but that of landscape construction progress is parabolic-curve, because landscape construction concentrally progress in last period of construction schedule. And particularly parabolic-curve seems to rise up suddenly in the last period when landscape construction amount is small.
