This paper includes the comparative study between Cr plating and nitriding process with an aim at improving corrosion, wear and maintainability for KNR(Korean Next Generation Rifle) 5.5mm barrel. The endurance test was conducted to compare the performance of standard barrel, Cr plating barrel and nitriding barrel. Main activities are described as follows; optimal Cr plating and nitriding process set-up for KNR 5.56mm barrel; durability test of each barrel(20,000 rounds); salt water immersion test; dispersion, initial velocity, inner diameter data acquisition. According to the results of this firing test, Cr plating barrel is superior to standard barrel and nitriding barrel in view of corrosion, wear and maintainability.

There are several kinds of error factors in control system design. All error factors must be analysed before designing the control system. Therefore, each error factor must be compensated and eliminated completely. Systems Engineering can solve these error factors. In this paper, systems engineering approach on control system design are studied under model based systems engineering with RDD-100, Matlab-Simulink. Systems Engineering shall be used in defense development from control system design to system development.

Recently, ship acoustics takes more important role in acoustic stealth and classification of underwater targets. In this paper, a theoretical concept is proposed for M＆S-based test and evaluation of ship acoustics. The concept is based on two different approaches: on Top-Down method which emphasizes the survivability of the ship and on Bottom-Up method which considers acoustic characteristics of the ship-equipments. In order to improve the effectiveness of M＆S-based T＆E for ship acoustics, it is recommended in this paper to compromise the two approaches as adequate.

Copper films were prepared by using ECR-MOCVD(Electron Cyclotron Resonance Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) coupled with a DC bias system. The DC bias is connected to the electrode which placed 1∼3cm above the polymer substrate. The pulse electrical field around the electrode attracts the positive charged copper ions generated from the dissociation of copper precursor, $Cu(hfac)_2$, under ECR plasma. Condensation of supersaturated copper ions in the space between the electrode and substrate, makes it possible to deposit copper film on the polymer substrate even at room temperature. In this study, optimization of the electrode configuration was carried out in order to obtain the uniform films. The uniformity of the deposited films were closely related to the parameters of electrode geometry such as electrode shape, thickness, grid size and the spacing between electrodes. The most uniform copper film was observed with the electrode that enabled uniform electrical field distribution across the whole dimension of electrode.

Loss factors of A356, Mn-Cu alloy and aluminum matrix composites reinforced with $SiC_p$ and Ni-coated graphite particles at various contents have been investigated using clamped-free cantilever beam method. The loss factors of half-power bandwidth of the specimens were measured over a wide range of frequencies from 50 to 3300Hz. Among the specimens, Al-10%$SiC_p$-10%$C_p$ showed the highest loss factor at the mode I, while Mn-Cu alloy showed the highest loss factors at the modes II and III. Consequently, at the mode I the Al-10%$SiC_p$--10%$C_p$ showed the loss factor of 0.00093, which is 2.64 and 1.58 times higher than those of A356 and Mn-Cu alloy, respectively.

Survivability of the general purpose warhead during the target impact was studied. We first simulated the penetration phenomena and temporarily defined the survivability of the warhead at the impact situation. Next we launched the warhead projectiles by using Counter Mass Gun(CMG) system against the simulated specific steel target. The recovered warheads were carefully investigated and the penetration behaviors were analyzed. As a result the warhead can be hardened efficiently to enhance the survivability with the help of CMG test ＆ analysis.

When simulating the mission flight of a fighter equipped with the avionic ECM pod, it is massively required to provide the correct information of threats, to depict the real environment of mission area, and to precisely model the capability of the ECM system. Also, in order to get the reliable results of those simulation, it should be supported the flexible changes of threat environments and the examination of multiple flight paths. This paper presents a software system which is possible to flexible and interactive ECM simulation. This system has capable of the 2D or 3D visualization of virtual battle field, the management of electronic threat data, and the simulation of engagement model.

The etiological agent is Bacillus anthracis, a gram-positive rod-shaped bacterium able to form spores. In order to elucidate the mechanism of infecttion on human macrophage cells, we performed two-dimensional electrophoresis and MALDI-TOF analysis using the infected human macrophage cells with the spores of B. anthracis Sterne of inactivated B. anthracis Sterne. We identified 9 proteins which related to the infection of Bacillus anthracis spores on human macrophage cells at the early stage events. Maybe nine proteins will be bio-markers and vaccine candidates to the Bacillus anthracis spore infection.
