The End Coupling is main component of the aluminum hot roll process. The End Coupling is used for transmission of rotational power with heavy-duty load. Fracture of the End Coupling cause serious economic losses because an End Coupling is a very expensive component and it takes a long time to repair it. Therefore, preventing the destruction of the End Coupling is essential for ensuring a long mechanical life cycle. In this paper, the parametric study on the End Coupling was performed in order to minimize maximum stress under operation loads. To verify the interference of spindle assembly with modified End Coupling, kinematics simulation was performed by applying the various combination type and dynamic boundary condition of the spindle assembly. The interference of optimized model was not occurred during combination process and driving process. As a result of an optimum design for life extension on End Coupling, the maximum stress of modified End Coupling was lower than that of the initial model by 26%.

One distinguishing feature of BIM(Building Information Modeling) is the objectification of spatial elements independently, which makes it easy to represent spatial network. From this perspective, this study aimed to develop the spatial network analysis tool based on open BIM technologies. From the literature review, an object model of spatial network with nodes and links and a process model from construction to visualization were established. A prototype system implementing the proposed models, named SNAT(Spatial Network Analysis Tool), was developed in Java platform with using its open source packages. SNAT can create a spatial network from IFC-BIM model, calculate the indices of spatial network analysis, and visualize it with the representing types(map, graph, matrix and table).

Recently, requests for accurate process planning using simulation have been increasing in many engineering fields including the shipbuilding industry, and many application systems for simulation have been developed. It is difficult, however, for a user to reuse the developed systems, because simulation models in the system are defined by its own method. In addition, the simulation model should be modified whenever a simulation sequence, which is called simulation scenario, is changed. Therefore, in this study, an elementary simulation object is proposed to modularize a simulation model. And the management scheme of simulation scenario is proposed to manage the scenario outside of the simulation models. Also, a simulation template is proposed to increase the development efficiency. To verify the efficiency of the proposed methods, application examples for shipbuilding process planning are implemented.

Assembly scheduling in shipbuilding is responsible for determine assembly process orders and departmental production schedule for the block, the basic composite unit of ships. It is necessary much more information to decide production scheduling as the characteristic of shipbuilding which has been more complex and more various and also, a lot of waste of time and of human power is generated in the course of data processing. The target shipbuilding manufacturer of this study use empirical techniques, based on the user's discretion, to compile and to apply data which are scattered in DB storages separately. Because of that reason, the user should not only be performed identification and screening operations but also modification and verification for vast amounts of data, so it is hard to keep the consistency of the data and also the operation time is not constant. Accordingly, the object in this study is by presenting an efficient DB framework to reduce wasting time and man-hour at experienced-oriented process, abate user's manual operations and support an efficient scheduling in assembly processes.

Many automobile manufacturers are doing experiment on manufacturing environments by using an augmented reality technology. However, system layout and process simulation by using the virtual reality technology have been performed actively more than by using the augmented reality technology in practical use so far. Existing automobile assembly by using the augmented reality requires the precise calibrating work after setting the robot because the existing augmented reality system for the automobile assembly system configuration does not include the end tip deflection and the robot joints deflection due to the heavy weight of product and gripper. Because the robot is used mostly at the automobile assembly, the deflection problem of the robot joint and the product in the existing augmented reality system need to be improved. Moreover camera lens calibration has to be performed precisely to use augmented reality. In order to improve this problem, this paper introduces a method of the software based calibration to apply the augmented reality effectively to the automobile assembly system. On the other hand, the camera lens calibration module and the direct compensation module of the virtual object displacement for the augmented reality were designed and implemented. Furthermore, the developed automobile assembly system oriented AR-system was verified by the practical test.

In this paper, oil spreading simulation model is proposed for analyzing the oil spreading phenomenon rapidly when the ocean is polluted by the oil from a stranded ship. The space occupied by the ocean is converted into the latticed cell, and the each cell contains the information, such as the quantity of the oil, the temperature of the ocean, and the direction of current and wind. Two states, such as "clean" and "polluted" are defined in the each cell, and the oil in the cell spreads to the neighbor cells by the spreading rules. There are three spreading rules. First, the oil in the certain cell only spreads to the neighbor cells that contain larger oil than the certain cell. Second, the oil evaporates in proportion to the temperature of the ocean at the every time step. Third, the oil spreading property is affected by the direction and the speed of the current and the wind. The oil spreading simulation model of the each cell is defined by using the combined discrete event and discrete time simulation model architecture with the information and the spreading rules in the cell. The oil spreading simulation is performed when the oil of 10,000 kL is polluted in the ocean environment of 300 m by 300 m with various current and wind.

In this paper, we performed numerical analysis to improve the heat exchange efficiency of wasted heat recovery ventilator which has a delivery and a exhaustion fan. One of the most important design factors that affect the efficiency of heat exchange is uniform counter-flow between inbound and outbound air flows. We had simulated several types of porous plates which were installed at air intake area. With plate having 45 degrees of installation angle and 15 mm diameter holes which are uniformly arranged, we can generate a uniform air flows at the area of porous media where inbound and outbound air flows are cross over. In addition, we installed a duct to reduce vortex flows at the outlet and to discharge exhaust airs rapidly. By using the proposed numerical assessment, we expect the improvement of the heat exchange efficiency of ventilator.

This paper proposes a novel discomfort assessment method for truck ingress and egress motions based on the maximum-voluntary-contraction (MVC) ratios of muscles obtained by biomechanical analysis of human musculoskeletal models. In this study, a human motion to enter and exit a truck cabin with different types and heights of footsteps is first measured using an optical motion capture system and load sensors. Next, in a biomechanical analysis system, a human musculoskeletal model with contacting conditions on footsteps and handles is modeled, and then joint torques and muscles forces are calculated by inverse dynamics of the musculoskeletal model with the motion data. Finally, the MVC ratios for the muscles are calculated and their statistical values are used as the measure of discomfort. To ensure the feasibility of our method, subjective discomfort levels have been investigated through the participants' experiments and questionnaires and compared to the results of our method. Comparing to the existing methods based on joint angles or torques, our approach provide a more essential criterion for discomfort because it is based on the muscle contraction by which an active human motion is basically generated.
