In this paper, we investigate the capture effect through experiments conducted with Iris nodes equipped with AT86RF230 radio transceivers. It is shown that the first arriving packet in a collision can capture the radio channel for equal power transmissions and may be decoded depending on the amount of overlap. A new 3-packet-capture scenario is introduced and implemented. To be able to understand the impact of capture on the throughput performance of wireless sensor networks, we present an analysis of the capture coefficient using our practical results. For real-world implementations, the throughput of pure ALOHA considering a finite number of users is presented in analytical form. The capture coefficient is then applied to pure ALOHA as a case study. Using analytical and practical implementations of the capture effect on ALOHA, a very good match in channel throughput performance enhancement is demonstrated over the non-capture effect case. TinyOS-2.x is used to program the nodes and to observe data exchange on a computer through a base station.

In this paper, we present a low-power delta-sigma based digital frequency synthesizer with high frequency resolution for bio sensor networks. Biomedical radio-frequency (RF) transceivers require miniaturized forms with a long battery life and low power consumption. For the technology scaling, digital circuits have become preferable compared to analog circuits because of the aggressive cost, size, flexibility, and repeatability. Therefore, the digital circuits based on standard-cell library are used to reduce a power consumption. Additionally, a delta-sigma is used for making fractional frequency tuning range. From the simulation, we confirmed that proposed scheme has good performance in accordance with power and frequency resolution.

Recent studies have been received much attention on underwater laser communication, which is capable of high data rate. However, in underwater laser communication, distortions caused by absorption and scattering induced performance degradation. A typical way to improve performance is to apply channel coding technique. In the beginning of studies, simple methods such as RS and BCH coding techniques were applied. However, due to distance expansion and performance improvement, channel coding methods with low error probability such as LDPC coded method were applied. In this paper, we analyzed the performance according to the size of the code word N, the distance between the transceivers and the size of the M of the M-ary PPM modulation scheme. Simulation results show that parameter M of M-ary PPM is most effect on performance.

Sensor Networks (WSNs) can be defined as a self-configured and infrastructure-less wireless networks to monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or pollutants and to cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main location or base-station where the data can be observed and analyzed. Typically a wireless sensor network contains hundreds of thousands of sensor nodes. The sensor nodes can communicate among themselves using radio signals. A wireless sensor node is equipped with sensing and computing devices, radio transceivers and power components. The individual nodes in a wireless sensor network (WSN) are inherently resource constrained: they have limited processing speed, storage capacity, communication bandwidth and limited-battery power. At present time, most of the research on WSNs has concentrated on the design of energy- and computationally efficient algorithms and protocols In order to extend the network life-time, in this paper we are looking into a routing protocol, especially LEACH and LEACH-related protocol. LEACH protocol is a representative routing protocol and improves overall network energy efficiency by allowing all nodes to be selected to the cluster head evenly once in a periodic manner. In LEACH, in case of movement of sensor nodes, there is a problem that the data transmission success rate decreases. In order to overcome LEACH's nodes movements, LEACH-Mobile protocol had proposed. But energy consumption increased because it consumes more energy to recognize which nodes moves and re-transfer data. In this paper we propose the new routing protocol considering nodes' mobility. In order to simulate the proposed protocol, we make a scenario, nodes' movements randomly and compared with the LEACH-Mobile protocol.

In this paper, the sensitivity of massive antenna arrays and digital beamforming to radio frequency (RF) chain in-phase quadrature-phase (I/Q) imbalance is studied and analyzed. The analysis shows that massive antenna arrays are increasingly sensitive to such RF chain imperfections, corrupting heavily the radiation pattern and beamforming capabilities. Motivated by this, novel RF-aware digital beamforming methods are then developed for automatically suppressing the unwanted effects of the RF I/Q imbalance without separate calibration loops in all individual receiver branches. More specifically, the paper covers closed-form analysis for signal processing properties as well as the associated radiation and beamforming properties of massive antenna arrays under both systematic and random RF I/Q imbalances. All analysis and derivations in this paper assume ideal signals to be circular. The well-known minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer and a widely-linear (WL) extension of it, called WL-MVDR, are analyzed in detail from the RF imperfection perspective, in terms of interference attenuation and beamsteering. The optimum RF-aware WL-MVDR beamforming solution is formulated and shown to efficiently suppress the RF imperfections. Based on the obtained results, the developed solutions and in particular the RF-aware WL-MVDR method can provide efficient beamsteering and interference suppressing characteristics, despite of the imperfections in the RF circuits. This is seen critical especially in the massive antenna array context where the cost-efficiency of individual RF chains is emphasized.
This paper proposes a new automatic compensation network (ACN) for a system-on-chip (SoC) transceiver. We built a 5 GHz low noise amplifier (LNA) with an on-chip ACN using 0.18 ${\mu}m$ SiGe technology. This network is extremely useful for today's radio frequency (RF) integrated circuit devices in a complete RF transceiver environment. The network comprises an RF design-for-testability (DFT) circuit, capacitor mirror banks, and a digital signal processor. The RF DFT circuit consists of a test amplifier and RF peak detectors. The RF DFT circuit helps the network to provide DC output voltages, which makes the compensation network automatic. The proposed technique utilizes output DC voltage measurements and these measured values are translated into the LNA specifications such as input impedance, gain, and noise figure using the developed mathematical equations. The ACN automatically adjusts the performance of the 5 GHz LNA with the processor in the SoC transceiver when the LNA goes out of the normal range of operation. The ACN compensates abnormal operation due to unusual thermal variation or unusual process variation. The ACN is simple, inexpensive and suitable for a complete RF transceiver environment.

Interference between primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU) transceivers should be mitigated in order to implement underlay spectrum sharing in cognitive radio networks (CRN). Considering this scenario, an improved joint subcarrier and bit allocation scheme for cognitive user with primary users' cooperation (PU Coop) in CRN is proposed. In this scheme, the optimization problem is formulated to minimize the average interference power level at the PU receiver via PU Coop, which guarantees a higher primary signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) while maintaining the secondary user total rate constraint. The joint optimal scheme is separated into subcarrier allocation and bit assignment in each subcarrier via arith-metric geo-metric (AM-GM) inequality with asymptotical optimization solution. Moreover, the joint subcarrier and bit optimization scheme, which is evaluated by the available SU subcarriers and the allocated bits, is analyzed in the proposed PU Coop model. The performance of cognitive spectral efficiency and the average interference power level are investigated. Numerical analysis indicates that the SU's spectral efficiency increases significantly compared with the PU non-cooperation scenario. Moreover, the interference power level decreases dramatically for the proposed scheme compared with the traditional Hughes-Hartogs bit allocation scheme.

Data accuracy can be increased by detecting and removing the incorrect data generated in wireless sensor networks. By increasing the data accuracy, network lifetime can be increased parallel. Network lifetime or operational time is the time during which WSN is able to fulfill its tasks by using microcontroller with on-chip memory radio transceivers, albeit distributed sensor nodes send summary of their data to their cluster heads, which reduce energy consumption gradually. In this paper a powerful algorithm using proactive fuzzy system is proposed and it is a mixture of fuzzy logic with comparative correlation techniques that ensure high data accuracy by detecting incorrect data in distributed wireless sensor networks. This proposed system is implemented in two phases there, the first phase creates input space partitioning by using robust fuzzy c means clustering and the second phase detects incorrect data and removes it completely. Experimental result makes transparent of combined correlated fuzzy system (CCFS) which detects faulty readings with greater accuracy (99.21%) than the existing one (98.33%) along with low false alarm rate.
In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) relaying network. In this network, the channels between UAVs and ground transceivers are model-free. A UAV acting as a flying relay explores better channels to assist in efficient data delivery between two ground nodes. The full-duplex relaying mode is applied for potential energy efficiency (EE) improvements. With the genetic algorithm, we manage to optimize the UAV trajectory for any arbitrary radio map scenario. Numerical results demonstrate that compared to other schemes (eg, fixed trajectory/speed policies), the proposed algorithm performs better in terms of EE. Additionally, the impact of self-interference on average EE is also investigated.

In this paper, we presents a Multiple User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) test-bed system for Time Division Duplex (TDD) Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A). Using two parameters, the condition number of the channel matrix and the path gain, the MU-MIMO system could switch pre-coder to maintain target Bit Error Rate (BER) level. This paper also introduces a calibration procedure for compensating error of Radio Frequency (RF) paths of the antennas and RF transceivers. From experimental measurements, dynamic pre-coding scheme could maintain target BER, set to 10-3, with the pre-coder set configured with Zero Forcing (ZF), Tomlinson Harashima Pre-coding (THP), Lattice Reduction (LR). The simplest pre-coder ZF is adopted in stable channel, and when path gain become less than 0.25, LR is adopted. Lastly, when condition number of channel matrix become larger than 7, THP is adopted.
