  • Twenty-one adoptive parents participated in this study on adoption-related conflicts perceived by adoptive parents in open adoption. Q-methodology, which provides understanding of individual attitudes and experiences, identified three types of conflict. Type 1 experienced a great deal of conflict and concern prior to the adoption decision; they also faced difficulties stemming from lack of information about parenting an adopted child and institutional inertia. For type 2, the major factors of conflict were discord among siblings, negative bias against adoption in the community, and insufficient national assistance. Type 3 reported that they feel concerned for their adopted-child's developmental and psychological wellbeing they worried that adoption status might lead to behavioral and attitudinal problems in their adopted-child during youth and young adulthood.

  • Purpose: This study verified the characteristics and types of perceptions and attitudes toward a positive image of nurses, as perceived by new nurses, by applying Q-methodology. Methods: Participants were 37 new nurses serving at tertiary hospitals accommodating over 300 beds. Data were collected from April 1~30, 2021. Results: A positive image of nurses was categorized into four types: professional leadership, skilled empathy, experienced responsiveness, and cooperative sincerity. It is believed that this study will help establish a professional view of nurses by verifying the positive image of new nurses, who are likely to lead the future. Conclusion: Furthermore, by reducing the turnover of new nurses and increasing their job satisfaction, it would be possible to secure professional nursing personnel and the public's perception of good nurses, thereby contributing to the enhanced social status of nurses.

  • This work concerns the investigation of a Q1D methodology employed to study pressure oscillations in solid rocket motors driven by hydrodynamic instabilities. A laboratory-scale solid motor designed to develop vortex-shedding phenomena is analyzed for the whole firing time. The comparison between numerical results and experimental data shows good agreement regarding pressure oscillations signature, especially in the flute-mode behavior, the typical oscillations frequency trend present in any motor liable to hydrodynamic instabilities. Such result ensures the model capability to cope with this particular kind of pressure oscillations source, allowing the investigation of the phenomenon with a lighter and cost savings methodology than CFD simulations.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the types of subjectivity on communication styles of nursing freshmen and explore their properties by using the Q Methodology. Fifty nursing freshmen of P sample classified 55 Q-statements into the normal distribution of 11 point scale. Data were collected from May to June, 2015 and analyzed by using PC-QUANL program. As a result, communication styles are identified as 'Open-interaction facilitator', 'Other-considerate listener', 'Tense-sensitive to criticism person', and 'Non-interactive observer'. Open-interaction facilitators proficiently use verbal and nonverbal expressions, openly disclosing themselves and facilitating interactions with others. Other-considerate listeners primarily consider others before themselves, with careful communication. Tense-sensitive to criticism persons are nervous, sensitive to criticism, and are distractive style, so they have difficulties in intimate interaction with others. Non-interactive observers are bystanders who observe others and feel indifferent to interactions, without any self disclosure. The result of this study will be used for developing communication educational programs for nursing freshmen.

  • This study was conducted to explore and classify the types of the subjectivity on the perception of the spouse using Q methodology. In this study, 42 Q statements were selected as the Q sample through interview. 42 people who married person with their spouse as P samples were forced to distribute 42 Q samples on 9 point scale. The collected data was analyzed using PC QUANL program. The results of the analysis are defined as two distinctive types. First, Type I(n=36) was defined as 'Love-Ties Type' and Type II(n=6) as 'Skein of thread-Person in charge Type'. Type I perceived their spouse as fate and ties emphasizing love for their spouse. And Type II recognized their spouse as someone requires effort like unravelling a thread and a person to be responsible for. In the result of this study, structural differences between the two types were found. And it will be used as a basic resource to support a healthy and happy marriage.

  • There have been a great many ups and downs in Korean Credit Card Industries after 2000. It is certain that each Credit Card Company copes with the situations by means of its organizational capabilities. According to the evolutionary view of Institutionalism, a company's capabilities are composed of every day routines, codes, rules, learning(by doing, using, interacting) and decision makings. The purpose of this article is to verify how two Korean Credit Card Companies showed their strategic differences and what factors exposed each company's own limits. To examine the company's ordinary conducts, this study used Q methodology with a random sample of 16 members from each company. Especially from the results of Q factor analysis, it becomes clear that each company still takes a serious view of the economy of scale rather than the innovation or improvement of organizational and relational dynamics.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to employ a Q-methodological approach that can understand the characteristics of each type according to the subjective structures of humans, to help understand type-specific characteristics and to provide a basis for creating the image of dental technicians among dental technology students based on the characteristics of each type. Methods: The Q-methodology was used for this study. 120 Q-statements were obtained from a qualitative survey of 120 students of the department of dental technology. To select the Q-sample, the Q-population was categorized by taking several repeated readings. The selected statements were reviewed and revised by experts and 33 Q-samples were finally selected. The data were then analyzed using the PQ method program. Results: Among 42 P specimens, 22 were classified into type 1, 9 types 2, and 11 types 3. "Type 1" recognizes the image of dental technicians positively and optimistically (Z=1.29) (Z=1.74), but it is named "self-development oriented" in the sense that steady self-development must be underpinned (Z=1.37). "Type 2" agreed strongly that they could work for a lifetime without age or gender discrimination (Z=2.09). This type was referred to as "professional-oriented" because the recognition of dental technicians is more focused on "professional." "Type 3" was tagged "pride-oriented," showing the strongest agreement that they can be proud of their job as healthcare workers (Z=1.08). Conclusion: Many studies on such an image should be carried out to determine the importance of occupational images and establish desirable status for dental technicians to continue developing.

  • The Purpose of this study was to discover type of hope among korean middle-aged adult and to identify the major threads that structure various patterns of hope experienced by them. It is necessary to understand that experiencing hope of middle-aged adult experiencing numerous problems and loss at the transition of life. Q-methodology involves five steps in its approach. Collected Q-statements are 112 from 200 adults through 4 open-ended questions. Among them, 34 statements were decided as a Q-sample, The Q-sorting was carried out in 21 middle-aged adults. Three types of subjective experiences of hope emerged as : (1) Passive Wish Type, (2) Positive Pragmatic Hope Type, (3) Active Internal Value-Oriented Hope Type.

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of each type of subjective perception of cabin crew by applying Q-methodology to understand the competencies required of airline cabin crew. As a result of analyzing 33 Q-samples and 33 P-samples using the Ken-Q Analysis program, four types were identified: "Physical strength and appearance quality-oriented", "job performance-oriented", "communication ability-oriented", and "job consciousness-oriented". Most types showed high agreement on physical factors, ability to cope with emergency situations and work responsibility. The results can be used as basic data to develop effective curriculum for airline training course and airline service majors, and it can be a reference material to help job seekers understand the job and cultivate necessary competencies.
