Tidal regime change with general hydrolic condition change is examined, according to Garolim Tidal Power Plant (TPP) operation. Numerical model has been developed for the Yellow and East China Seas region, in order to consider the tidal regime change by the TPP operation. The changes of tidal elevation and tidal current inside the Garolim bay are also investigated in details, along with examining the change of the tidal flat area with operation. The field measurement for the tide and current have been carried out for the validation of the numerical model and for understanding the state of current system in the present state.

A numerical simulation of a 2-dimensional tidal flow in a shallow sea was performed using the frequency domain finite element method. In this study, to overcome the inherent problems of a time domain model which requires high eddy viscosity and small time steps to insure numerical stability, the harmonic function incorporated with the linearized function of governing equations was applied. Calculations were carried out using the developed tidal model(TIDE) in a rectangular channel of lOm(depth) X 4km (width) X 25km(length) under the condition of tidal waves entering the channel closed at one end for both with and without bottom friction damping. The predicted velocities and water levels at different points of the channel were in close agreement with less than 1 % error between the numerical and analytical solutions. The results showed that the characteristics of the tidal flow were greatly affected by the magnitude of tidal elevation forcing, and not by on surface friction, wind, or the linear bottom friction when the value was less than 0.01. For the optimum size of grid to obtain a consistent solution, the ratio between the length of the maximum grid and the tidal wave length should be less than 0.0018. It was concluded that the finite element tidal model(TIDE) developed in this study could handle the numerical simulation of tidal flows for more complex geometrical conditions.

For numerical analysis of a tidal flow, a two-dimensional hydrodynamic model is developed by solving the nonlinear shallow-water equations. The governing equations are discretized explicitly with a finite difference leap-frog scheme and a first-order upwind scheme on adaptive hierarchical quadtree grids. The developed model is verified by applying to prediction of tidal behaviors. The calculated tidal levels are compared to available field measurements. A very reasonable agreement is observed.
Generally, It is Introduced to well-known other models without considering tidal current of the field. The paper presents field measurements and numerical model solving velocity field of Cheonsu Bay by two-dimensional tidal model. It was proved that this scheme is easy to handle complex topography. Computed results is represented characteristics of tidal current for Cheonsu Bay. The results of the study can be summarized as follows ; 1. Tide form number has 0.21 value. Tidal range estimated 630.3 cm on spring, 454.1 cm on mean and 277.9 cm on neap, respectively 2. Tidal current has semi-diurnal form. Distance of traveling observed 16.6 km on flood and 15.5 km on ebb. 3. Tidal velocity showed reversing current. It was found that tidal velocity above 100 cm/sec is about 20 %. 4. Computed results are in good agreement with the observed data. Applying the algorithm to Cheonsu Bay, velocity fields and dry bank phenomena are simulated well in spite of complex topography. 5. An advanced study on the effects of open boundary conditions should be continuously performed.

This study applied the previous results of the NAO model, a tidal correction model, to the open boundary condition for the behavior of tidal elevation and tidal currents in the South Sea. This study used the EFDC model considering the wetting and drying problem and using the $\sigma-coordinate$ as a vertical coordinate and generated two mesh cases of the constant grid size of 2.0 km and the variable grid size of $0.5\sim2.0km$. The numerical results for the tides showed that the predicted results were in quite good agreements with the observational data acquired from the tidal stations of the NORI. The predicted tides were observed to propagate from the east area to the west area in the South Sea. The verification results reveal that the numerical results are more correlated with the measured tidal data as the grid size decreases. The grid size of 2 km results in proper simulation of tidal currents in wide waterway and offshore area whereas the numerical results from the grid size of 0.5 km tend to somewhat underestimate the tidal currents affected by narrow waterway and topography in inner-bay.

Through the combination of existing tidal prediction model and numerical tidal model, the efficient tidal prediction system was formulated and applied to the neighboring area of Pusan port. Because all tidal constituents for tidal prediction (69 tidal constituents are normally used) couldn't be considered due to the physical limits on computing process, some errors between the observed and predicted values were inevitably occurred. But it was confirmed that the computed values with maximum 10% of relative errors can be obtained if four major tidal constituents(M2, S2, K1, O1) are used. Thus, if other constituents than four major tidal constituents are additionally used, more accurate values will be obtained. Furthermore, if the database for harmonic constants in coastal waters is made in advance, using the numerical tidal model, prompt tidal prediction can be achieved at any time when it is required.

Two-dimensional numerical models with 1$^{\circ}$ and 1/3$^{\circ}$ resolution have been established to investigate the Ma distribution of global ocean tides. Especially, a 1/3$^{\circ}$ numerical model in this study has the most fine resolution among the existing global tidal model and it has been applied to the computation of detailed tidal distributions in the marginal seas and the shelf seas. Tidal characteristics in shallow areas could be hardly interpreted with the existing global chart due to the low resolution. The Ma tidal charts obtaind by 1$^{\circ}$ and 1/3$^{\circ}$ numerical model have been compared with the existing global maps and the altimetry-derived tidal charts. Also, the computed harmonic constants have been compared with the pelagic observations. The results obtained by 1/3$^{\circ}$ numerical model show better agreement with the existing global charts and the observed data than those obtained by 1$^{\circ}$ model. The possibility has been presented that the results obtained by 1/3$^{\circ}$ model can provide the open boundary conditions of the regional tidal numerical model.

A two-dimensional numerical tidal model with $1/3^\circ$ resolution has been established to investigate the distribution of semidiurnal constituents$(M_2,\;S_2,\;K_2,\;N_2)$ and diurnal constituents$(K_1,\;O_1,\;P_1,\;Q_1)$ of the global ocean. The $1/3^\circ$ numerical model has been applied to the computation of detailed tidal distributions in the marginal seas and the shelf seas. Tidal characteristics in shallow areas could be hardly resolved with the existing global chart due to the low resolution. Computed tidal charts obtained by $1/3^\circ$ numerical model have been compared with the existing global charts and the altimetry-derived tidal charts. Computed harmonic constants have also been com-pared with the pelagic tidal observations. The results obtained with fine-grid numerical model can be used to determine the time-independent sea surface topography by removing the tidal components from the altimetry-derived sea surface height.
Quasi-linear bright features persistently appeared on ENVISAT ASAR images as well as X-SAR images along the tidal channels in Gyung-Gi Bay, Korea during the ebb tides. These features are induced by spatial backscatter variations caused by surface convergence (divergence) through the interaction between tidal currents and bathymetry. In order to validate this mechanism, a numerical tidal model simulation is performed on the realistic bathymetry with the tidal boundary conditions. The tide model reproduces the current convergence zone along the tidal channel during the ebb tides, which exactly coincides with the location of bright line features on SAR images.
