THE JONES POLYNOMIAL OF KNOTS WITH SYMMETRIC UNION PRESENTATIONS

  • A symmetric union is a diagram of a knot, obtained from diagrams of a knot in the 3-space and its mirror image, which are symmetric with respect to an axis in the 2-plane, by connecting them with 2-tangles with twists along the axis and 2-tangles with no twists. This paper presents an invariant of knots with symmetric union presentations, which is called the minimal twisting number, and the minimal twisting number of $10_{42}$ is shown to be two. This paper also presents a sufficient condition for non-amphicheirality of a knot with a certain symmetric union presentation.

  • We investigate the multiplicity of $2{\pi}$-periodic solutions of the nonlinear Hamiltonian system with perturbed polynomial and exponential potentials, $\dot{z}= JG^{\prime}(z)$, where $z:R{\rightarrow}R^{2n}$, $\dot{z}={\frac{dz}{dt}}$, $J=\(\array{0&-I\\I&0}\)$, I is the identity matrix on $R^n,G:R^{2n}{\rightarrow}R$, G(0, 0) = 0 and $G^{\prime}$ is the gradient of G. We look for the weak solutions $z=(p,q){\in}E$ of the nonlinear Hamiltonian system.

  • Let $\mathcal{S}^{\prime}(\mathbb{R})$ be the dual of the Schwartz spaces $\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R})$), A be a self-adjoint operator in $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ and ${\Gamma}(A)^*$ be the adjoint operator of ${\Gamma}(A)$ which is the second quantization operator of A. It is proven that under a suitable condition on A there exists a nuclear subspace $\mathcal{S}$ of a fundamental space $\mathcal{S}_A$ of Hida's type on $\mathcal{S}^{\prime}(\mathbb{R})$) such that ${\Gamma}(A)\mathcal{S}{\subset}\mathcal{S}$ and $e^{-t{\Gamma}(A)}\mathcal{S}{\subset}\mathcal{S}$, which enables us to show that a stochastic differential equation: $$dX(t)=dW(t)-{\Gamma}(A)^*X(t)dt$$, arising from the central limit theorem for spatially extended neurons has an unique solution on the dual space $\mathcal{S}^{\prime}$ of $\mathcal{S}$.

COHOMOLOGY GROUPS OF CIRCULAR UNITS IN ℤp-EXTENSIONS

  • Let $k$ be a real abelian field such that the conductor of every nontrivial character belonging to $k$ agrees with the conductor of $k$. Note that real quadratic fields satisfy this condition. For a prime $p$, let $k_{\infty}$ be the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $k$. The aim of this paper is to produce a set of generators of the Tate cohomology group $\hat{H}^{-1}$ of the circular units of $k_n$, the $nth$ layer of the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $k$, where $p$ is an odd prime. This result generalizes some earlier works which treated the case when $k$ is real quadratic field and used them to study ${\lambda}$-invariants of $k$.

  • The concepts of t-extending and t-Baer for modules are generalized to those of FI-t-extending and FI-t-Baer respectively. These are also generalizations of FI-extending and nonsingular quasi-Baer properties respectively and they are inherited by direct summands. We shall establish a close connection between the properties of FI-t-extending and FI-t-Baer, and give a characterization of FI-t-extending modules relative to an annihilator condition.

  • This paper deals with a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach to the design of a static output feedback controller that simultaneously stabilizes a finite collection of linear time-invariant plants. Simultaneous stabilization by static ouput feedback is represented in terms of LMIs with a rank condition. An iterative penalty method is proposed to solve the rank-constrained LMI problem. Numerical experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Revision on the Frequency Domain Conditions for Strict Positive Realness

  • In this paper, the necessary and sufficient conditions for strict positive realness of the rational transfer functions directly from basic definitions in the frequency domain are studied. A new frequency domain approach is used to check if a rational transfer function is a strictly positive real or not. This approach is based on the Taylor expansion and the Maximum Modulus Principle which are the fundamental tools in the complex functions analysis. Four related common statements in the strict positive realness literature which is appeared in the control theory are discussed. The drawback of these common statements is analyzed through some counter examples. Moreover a new necessary condition for strict positive realness is obtained from high frequency behavior of the Nyquist diagram of the transfer function. Finally a more simplified and completed conditions for strict positive realness of single-input single-output linear time-invariant systems are presented based on the complex functions analysis approach.

  • In this paper, a trajectory tracking problems using SMC(sliding mode control) is presented. In the conventional method. SMC has been applied to linear systems and the output matrix C has to satisfy a restrictive condition that CB is nonsingular. Under suitable assumptions, decoupling SMC can be adapted to remove the restriction mentioned above. The Proposed control strategy is applied to trajectory tracking control and simulations results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • A sensor placement technique to identify structural parameter was developed. Experimental results must be acquired to identify unknown dynamic characteristics of a targeting structure for the comparison between analytical model and real structure. If the experimental environment was not equipped itself properly, it can be happened that some valuable information are distorted or ill-condition can be occurred. In this work the index to determine exciting points was derived from the criterion of maximizing parameter sensitivity matrix and that to choose measurement points was from that of preserving the invariant of sensitivity matrix. This idea was applied to a compressor hull structure to verify its performance. The result shows that the selection of measurement and excitation points using suggested criteria improve the ill-conditioning problem of inverse type problems such , as model updating.

일반화된 적응법칙을 사용한 안정한 기준모델 적응제어 (A Stable Model Reference Adaptive Control with a Generalized Adaptive Law)

  • In this paper, a generalized adaptive law is proposed which uses a rational function type operator for parameter adjustment. To satisfy the passivity condition of the adaptation block, we introduce a constant feedback gain into the adaptation block. This adaptation scheme is applied to the model reference adaptive control of a continuous-time, linear time-invariant, minimum-phase system whose relative degree is 1. We prove the asymptotic stability of the output error of this adaptive system by hyperstability method. It is shown that by digital computer simulations this law can give a better output error transient response in some cases than the conventional gradient adaptive law. And the output error responses for the several types of the proposed adaptation law are examined in the presence of a kind of unmodeled dynamics.
