We persent a method for kinematic calibration of open chain mechanisms based on the product of exponentials (POE) formula. The POE formula represents the forward kinematics of an open chain as a product of matrix exponentials, and is based on a modern geometric interpretation of classical screw theory. Unlike the kinematic parameters in the POE formula vary smoothly with changes in the joint axes;ad hoc methods designed to address the inherent singularities in the D-H parameters are therefore are therefore unnecessary. After introducing the POE formula, we derive a least-squares kinematic calibration algorithm for general open chain mechanisms. Simulation results with a 6-axis open chain are presented.
This paper proposes a new model to· evaluate the effectiveness of websites using balanced scorecard (BSC) and weighted formula based methods.fisrt, we Use BSC method to find out the cause-and-effect relationships between the measure and website activities, and our proposed model evaluates website performance from six perspectives: business value, operational excellence, customer value, website interface, management, maintenance, and learning and innovation. Next, we usedformula-based approach to identify what makes website performance low by developing the evaluation formula through investigating website users; finally, case studies of two famous websites are given to show how our method can be used Our evaluation model can not only evaluate website performance but also suggest how to improve performance.
The purpose of this article is to find a relation between the finite difference method and the boundary element method, and propose a new approach deriving a discrete approximation formula as like that of the finite difference method for harmonic functions. We develop a discrete approximation formula on a uniform grid based on the boundary integral formulations. We consider three different boundary integral formulations and derive one discrete approximation formula on the uniform grid for the harmonic function. We show that the proposed discrete approximation formula has the same computational molecules with that of the finite difference formula for the Laplace operator ${\nabla}^2$.
A general procedure for the design sensitivity analysis of structural dynamic problems has been presented in frame of the FRF-based substructuring formulation. In the procedure, the direct differentiation method is used for the sensitivity formula. For a system response function, the proposed method gives a parametric design sensitivity formula in terms of the partial derivatives of the connection element properties and the transfer matrix of the subsystems. The derived design sensitivity formula is applied to a numerical example. The comparison of sensitivities derived by the proposed method and the finite difference method shows that the proposed method is efficient and accurate.
Recognizing shortcomings and unreasonable points of the usual methods of measurement of the standing-tree volume, author contrived measurement formula of standing-tree volume which is based on stem-curve equation, $y^2=2px$, resulted from the analysises and experiments on stem-curve by differentiation & integration. The results of this study are as follows ; (1) The following is the formula. $V=1/2g_{1.2}$(h+1.2) V=volume of tree $g_{1.2}$ = sectional area at breast heigh h = height of tree (2) So plain is the form of this formula that this formula is more convenient than usual formulas in measuring. (3) The percentage error of this formula is negative and it is remarkably superior to usual formulas except Pressler's formula, in other words, the higher the tree that is measured is, the more inaccurate become pressler's formula, and the percentage error of the breast-height form factor method is direct proportion to the grossness of the tree that is measured, but the higher the tree that is measured, the lower become percentage error of this formula in geometrical progression.
In search and rescue mission the leeway formula based on the field experiments are utilized for the estimation of wind effect on distressed targets. This paper summarized the leeway formula from the available references. In the summary the environmental data collection method and experimental conditions are described along with the formula. Also the formula currently used in CASP of the U.S. Coast Gurard and CANSARP of the Canadian Coast Guard are discussed.
Elastic buckling load of perforated steel plates is typically predicted using the finite element or conjugate load/displacement methods. In this paper an artificial neural network (ANN)-based formula is presented for the prediction of the elastic buckling load of rectangular plates having a circular cutout. By using this formula, the elastic buckling load of perforated plates can be calculated easily without setting up an ANN platform. In this study, the center of a circular cutout was chosen at different locations along the longitudinal x-axis of plates subjected to linearly varying loading. The results of the finite element method (FEM) produced by the commercial software package ANSYS are used to train and test the network. The accuracy of the proposed formula based on the trained ANN model is evaluated by comparing with the results of different researchers. The results show that the presented ANN-based formula is practical in predicting the elastic buckling load of perforated plates without the need of an ANN platform.
It is difficult to analytically derive a volumetric displacement formula for a gerotor hydraulic motor due to the complexity of the geometric shape of its gear lobes. This work proposes an analytical method for the volumetric displacement, a relatively easy method based upon two physical concepts: conservation between hydraulic energy and mechanical shaft energy, and torque equilibrium for the rotor's motion. The first research using these concepts was conducted on inner and outer rotors rotating with respect to each rotor axis. This work represents the second report conducted on an inner rotor revolving as a planetary motion on the stationary outer rotor. The formula equations regarding the volumetric displacement and flow rate are derived, and the proposed formula about the volumetric displacement is proven to be the same as another analytical displacement formula: the so-called vane length method. From the formula, volumetric displacement is calculated for an example geometry of the gear lobes. The resultant displacement is confirmed to be the same as the value calculated from the chamber volume method. The proposed analytical formula can be utilized in the analysis and design of gerotor hydraulic motors. Because it is based on torque equilibrium, this formula can provide a better understanding of torque performance, such as torque ripple, in designing a gerotor type motor.

The purpose of this paper is to provide the method of conventional stress analysis for a pressurized hydraulic cylinder with internal thread undercut. In the case of hydraulic cylinder with thread undercut, several loads and stresses occur during operating. So, the thread undercut can be most critical section has to be considered in detail for strength check. In this paper, the conventional stress analysis method at internal thread undercut of hydraulic cylinder based on Kowalski's formula is introduced. The method is verified by comparing to FEM analysis results using ANSYS.

The dual singular function method(DSFM) is a numerical algorithm to get optimal solution including corner singularities for Poisson and Helmholtz equations. In this paper, we apply DSFM to solve heat equation which is a time dependent problem. Since the DSFM for heat equation is based on DSFM for Helmholtz equation, it also need to use Sherman-Morrison formula. This formula requires linear solver n + 1 times for elliptic problems on a domain including n reentrant corners. However, the DSFM for heat equation needs to pay only linear solver once per each time iteration to standard numerical method and perform optimal numerical accuracy for corner singularity problems. Because the Sherman-Morrison formula is rather complicated to apply computation, we introduce a simplified formula by reanalyzing the Sherman-Morrison method.
