Background: Legionella pneumophila has been recognized as an important cause of pneumonia. However, limited data are available in the literature regarding legionella pneumonia in Korea. The objective of this study was to compare epidemiological data and clinical presentation of legionella pneumonia and pneumococcal pneumonia. Methods: We retrospectively compared clinical, radiological, and laboratory data, antimicrobial treatment, and treatment outcomes between 28 cases of legionella pneumonia and 56 cases of pneumococcal pneumonia. Diagnoses of both legionella and pneumococcal pneumonia were based on commercial urinary antigen tests. Results: Legionella pneumonia patients included 23 men and 5 women, with a mean age of 61.6 years (range 36~88). Fifteen were smokers and 26 had some underlying diseases. Legionella pneumonia occurred more frequently in healthcare-associated settings than pneumococcal pneumonia (42.9% vs 21.4%, respectively, p=0.040). There were no significant differences in clinical signs and symptoms. Compared to patients with pneumococcal pneumonia, patients with legionella pneumonia presented more frequently with anemia (39.3% vs 8.9%, p=0.001), increased C-reactive protein (57.1% vs 30.4%, p=0.018) and increased alkaline phosphatase (46.4% vs 16.1%, p=0.003). Also, legionella pneumonia patients more often showed pleural effusion on simple chest X-rays (50.0% vs 12.5%, p<0.001). Conclusion: Legionella pneumonia and pneumococcal pneumonia can not be distinguished by clinical manifestations alone. However, legionella pneumonia occurred as a healthcare-associated pneumonia more frequently and was more often associated with anemia and increased CRP and alkaline phosphatase levels.
Purpose: This study was aimed to identify the difference of the self-efficacy and the health promoting behaviors between obese and normal-weight middle school students. Method: Data were collected from a convenient sample of 360 middle school students (180 normal-weight students and 180 obese students) in Pusan from November 22nd to December 20th. 2000. based on self-report questionnaires. The following instruments were used in the study after being reconstructed by the researcher with the consultation of experts and the literature review: General Self Efficacy Scale(Sherer et al.. 1982). and Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (Walker. Sechrist & Pender. 1987). The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, chi-square test. and t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: 1. There were significant differences in father's obesity (p=.014) mother's obesity (p= .007), sibling's obesity (p=.00l), and school record (p=.001) between obese and normal-weight students. 2. There were statistically significant differences in the score of self-efficacy between the obese and normal-weight students (p=.0001) 3. There were statistically significant differences in health promoting behavior (p= .000) and in six sub-i terns: personal relationship (p =.000), exercise (p=.001), responsibility for health (p=.003), stress management (p = .015), self-actualization (p =.043) between the obese and normal weight students. 4. There were very statistically significant negative correlations between obesity and the self-efficacy (r=-.19. p<.001), health promoting behavior (r=-.18. p<.001), specifically personal relationship(r=-.20. p<.001), stress management (r=-.12. p<.05), responsibility for health (r=-.15. p<.01), and self-actualization (r=-.14. p<.01). Conclusion: According to the above results it is concluded that self-efficacy and health promoting behavior influence the obesity of middle school students. Therefore I recommend adding programs that can lead to improve self-efficacy and health promoting behavior to the obesity prevention programs for middle school students.

This study summarizes the basic rules and characteristics of the design style base don combing, analyzing and verifying the data of the fastback design style. It provides the necessary basic research for the better application of the fastback design style in the future automobile design. Firstly, through the literature research method to sort out and analyze the de finition, origin and history of fastback design style. Secondly, through the comparative study, the author compares and analyzes the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the fastback design style and the step back design style. Thirdly, through case analysis, it studies the classification and characteristics of fastback design style. Finally, this paper summarizes the influence of the fastback design style on the future automobile appearance design, and the specific design methods. Forecasts the development trend of fastback design style in the field of automobile exterior design in the future. Through this research, we sorted out the related historical development of fastback design and the characteristics and advantages of fastback design style (from the perspective of functionality, economy and aesthetics).The fastback design style has formed a more systematic research theory, which provides basic research materials for future fastback design research. In the next stage, this study will be further subdivided, focusing on the different design features of different automobile manufacturers which subdivide the fastback design style into different design features according to their own needs.

The purpose of this study is to develop the elementary mathematics education program for the cultivation of humanistic imagination and characters through the link between mathematics and literature to find out its effectiveness. This study has verified the effectiveness of mathematics academic achievement, humanistic imagination and characters with the program development and preliminary program and application of this program for two years. After conducting classes on proportional expression and proportional distribution for 79 sixth-grade elementary school students (39 in the experimental class and 40 in the comparative class) in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do under this program, the researcher analyzed how the application of the program affects students' perception using pre- and post-examinations on mathematics academic achievement, humanistic imagination, and characters, including interviews with students, and analysis of outputs of the students. Studies have shown that the application of the elementary mathematics education program to foster humanities imagination and characters did not make any significant difference in mathematics academic achievement, and there were statistically significant differences in the subcategories of "reflection on life", "positive self-consciousness" and "humanistic imagination" categories, and there were no statistically significant differences in the "purpose of life" and "human relations" categories. However, the responses from the students' interviews showed that their perspectives of humans and the world has become wider and deeper. It also did not produce significant results for characters. As suggestions, the ministry should present the need to develop and distribute concerning materials for teachers, secure time for creative experience activities for convergence subjects, and operate practical and long-term training programs for teachers.

This study attempted to present a better direction for the development of STEAM education in science gifted and talented education by making a comparative analysis of the trends date and discussing the implications based on that through Korea Education & Research Information Service(KERIS) The results were as follows: First, the results of the analysis in the order of the published year(2011) showed that since one paper appeared in a journal, the number of the papers has continued to increase. Second, the analysis by research objects found the highest number of the studies on elementary school gifted students; followed by on middle school gifted students; on elementary school gifted students and general school students and teachers; and high school gifted students, middle school gifted students and general school students, and elementary, middle school gifted students, respectively. However, research targeted at infants and college students did not exist. Third, the analysis by research subjects found that science gifted education consists of mainly programming/curriculum and creativity. In addition, the higher number of the researches on creativity suggests that science gifted education is closely associated with not only scientific creativity but science education's nature of increasing the interest and understanding of science and technology. Fourth, the analysis by research methods revealed that the number was the highest regarding development and research studies, followed by experimental research, survey research, qualitative research, and literature research.
This research concurrently conducts literature review and quantitative research methodology in order to compare aesthetic experience of and . From the perspective of viewing attitudes, two types of perception equally coexist in both exhibitions: convergent perception is predominant over distracted perception in IL while distracted perception is higher than convergent perception in MIE. However, the influence of convergent perception on the degree of satisfaction and immersion is proved only in MIE. In terms of roles of viewer, there is a tendency to weigh on passive role in both exhibitions. In particular, it is worth noting that the role is relatively high in MIE. The role of viewer do not correlate with on the degree of satisfaction and immersion, as well as modes of perception. The elements of aesthetic experience are highly rated and the use of previous knowledge acts as a positive influence on the role of viewers in IL. Through this study, we witness the fact that visitors who are familiar with traditional artworks depend upon both modes of perception as well as passive role of viewer in the digital exhibition. In conclusion, remediation through digital technology has blurred the boundary of the dichotomy of a viewing attitude and a role of viewer depending on exhibit media, consequently MIE bears both natures of traditional artworks and digital media.

This paper presents an empirical evaluation on dimensionality reduction strategies by which dissimilarity-based classifications (DBC) can be implemented efficiently. In DBC, classification is not based on feature measurements of individual objects (a set of attributes), but rather on a suitable dissimilarity measure among the individual objects (pair-wise object comparisons). One problem of DBC is the high dimensionality of the dissimilarity space when a lots of objects are treated. To address this issue, two kinds of solutions have been proposed in the literature: prototype selection (PS)-based methods and dimension reduction (DR)-based methods. In this paper, instead of utilizing the PS-based or DR-based methods, a way of performing DBC in Eigen spaces (ES) is considered and empirically compared. In ES-based DBC, classifications are performed as follows: first, a set of principal eigenvectors is extracted from the training data set using a principal component analysis; second, an Eigen space is expanded using a subset of the extracted and selected Eigen vectors; third, after measuring distances among the projected objects in the Eigen space using $l_p$-norms as the dissimilarity, classification is performed. The experimental results, which are obtained using the nearest neighbor rule with artificial and real-life benchmark data sets, demonstrate that when the dimensionality of the Eigen spaces has been selected appropriately, compared to the PS-based and DR-based methods, the performance of the ES-based DBC can be improved in terms of the classification accuracy.
The purpose of this study was to develop a program for couples in early stage of marriage for enhancing family resilience based on the concept of 'Family Resilience' by Walsh. Based on the literature review of couples in early stage of marriage, marital enrichment, and Family Resilience, a program focused on belief system, organizational pattern, and communication process was designed and implemented. The program was applied to seven couples in early stage of marriage for four (3hours/session/week) sessions. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used to compare the pre and post effects of the program. By operating a focus group composed of the program participants, a qualitative analysis of the participant's evaluation was performed. The pre and post comparative analysis showed a significant enhancement in belief system, organizational pattern, communication process, and dyadic adjustment. The results of the qualitative study in the focus group also reinforced the effectiveness of the program. The evaluation showed that the 3 hour/ 4 session program was appropriate in terms program format. The significances of this study are the concretion of the concept of Family Resilience and providing practice tools for the daily practitioner.
This study aims to develop a scale to capture various components of the family value and apply for comparative study of the family value of East Asian countries. Through literature review and experts consults, 27 preliminary questions of the East Asian family value were developed. A total of 3,000 people of East Asia countries(Korea, China, Japan) aged 20~59 were responded to the questionnaire. For validating the family scale developed, an explanatory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted. The results were as follows. Two of the 27 questions were deleted because those questions were found to have high correlation with other questions. Through the exploratory factor analysis 5 factors composed of 15 items -post-modern family value, traditional family value, confucian family value, instrumental family value and gender equality family value-were extracted and confirmed the factors with confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis. The results revealed that the family value scale was appropriate for measuring various family values in East Asian countries and would contribute to the development of Asian family theory. However, this scale can not cover all the family values and further studies would be needed to confirm the validity of the family value scale.
This is a preliminary study in order to deal intensively with the overall characteristics of Korean military science in the future days. First off, the history of military science of China based on the precedent studies was recapitulated, and a comparative study on the acceptance process of the books on military art and science, as well as on understanding patterns of literati on the subject through literature searches, ranging from the Three Kingdoms Period to the Goryeo Dynasty in Korean peninsula, was conducted. In case of Korea, the Chinese books on military strategy, including Sun Tzu's the Art of War, had already been passed down during the Three Kingdoms Period, and broadly read by scholarly people. They had utilized diverse methods based on their knowledge of Confucianism. In the reference materials, the authors of Korean military strategy books had greatly relied upon the Chinese books on military strategies, however, they had made the military principles run in their own way. At the end of Goryeo Dynasty, 'Military Science' had been well established as a subject in academia, and this curriculum had been taught not only at the National Confucian Academy, Seonggyun-gwan, in the capital but also at the country public school ("Hyanggyo") in the province together with Confucianism. Because of the limits of reference materials, however, it was difficult to confirm whether or not such strategic experiences were actually led to the publication of the books on military art and science, or how many books on military strategies and tactics had been published up until the end of Goryeo Dynasty. But, the facts that there were not many publications of the books on military strategies during the era of Three Kingdoms and of Goryeo Dynasty don't mean that Korean military science had entirely relied upon the Chinese military art and science. For instance, such strategies, tactics and leaderships as exhibited in the process of the Great Victory at Salsu River ("Salsu Daecheop") achieved by General Eulji Mun-deok, as well as the Great Victory at Gwiju ("Gwiju Daecheop") achieved by General Kang Gam-chan could never happen by chance.
