  • The purpose of this research is to introduce a new method for teaching family resource management using classroom experiments. Classroom experiments are very attractive in the sense that students are placed directly into the various environments being studied, and they enhance the effectiveness of the Socratic Method, as opposed to traditional lectures. The family resource management approach focuses on the resource allocation behavior of families in the utilization of their human and non-human resources to achieve goals. Therefore, there are many family resource decision situations to which classroom experiments may be fruitfully applied. Within this context, this research provides useful implications for applying managerial concepts of family resource management behavior in practical situations. The study results might be used to analyze an interactive framework that facilitates discussions of classroom experiments, family resource management behavior and human ecology.

  • Daylighting in educational environment is very important as it has an effect on students' performance as well as in their visual health. It is regarded as a good energy conservation method in saving energy used for lighting. This study conducted initial daylight measurements to analyze luminous environment in classrooms of Korean elementary school. The results indicated that the typical classroom had a reasonable level of daylight. However, it also found that the classroom had some problems of the uniformity of illuminance and the contrast of brightness of surfaces in the classroom. It is argued that daylighting design for school classroom should consider these aspects to make daylit classrooms ideal so as to provide comfortable visual environment.

(2) Children's happiness correlated negatively with stress. (3) There was no relationship between children's overall happiness and playfulness, but there was a negative correlation between happiness and playfulness under the sub-category of cognitive spontaneity. Results were discussed in relation to the Korean socio-cultural environment.

  • Departmentalized Classroom System is new school operating system to apply social needs. Recent social needs are characterized as learning environment and self-learning system. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for equal learning environment condition in middle school applying departmentalized classroom system. This study has progressed through analyzing on 11 remodelling case of middle school in Gangwon-Do. The method of this study is visiting middle schools that operate the system, grasping the condition for environment composition, and investigating and analyzing practical use of the environment. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1) The space compositions for departmentalized classroom system are generally desirable, but some schools take irrational space composition, especially on home base-teacher laboratory, classroom-teacher laboratory. 2) The space area distributions are different in every school. This result is based on not taking standard criterion on space area distribution.

  • Cooling the building by natural ventilation is one of the passive methods widely used from ancient times. It can be effectively applied especially in case of cooling load during the intermediate season of the year. In this study, the effect of 4 cases of window ventilation control mode which are 'Always Close', 'Temperature', 'Enthalpy' and 'Always Open' is simulated by Energyplus program and analyzed to improve the comfort of occupants and reduce energy consumption of the school classroom.

  • Because it is now the fourth year since the first operation of the departmentalized classroom system in March 2010, a clear analysis of the conditions for the system from the investigation of the schools' operating the system is necessary. In particular, in-depth investigation and analysis are pressing, because investigation and observation of the conditions and situations for the departmentalized classroom system are not conducted continuously after creating an environment for the management of the system through a large investment. Therefore, the purpose of this study lies in building clear data on the conditions for the operation of the departmentalized classroom system in schools by visiting schools that operate the system, grasping the conditions for environmental composition, and investigating and analyzing practical use of the environment.

  • In Korea, diabetes mellitus, which causes micro and macrovascular complications, has been rapidly increasing during recent decades and has become a leading cause of disability-adjusted life years. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus was 12.4% in 2011 and that of prediabetes, a condition of high risk for developing diabetes mellitus, is 1.5- to 3-fold greater than that of diabetes. The diabetes prevention programs in other countries were shown to reduce or delay progression from prediabetes to diabetes mellitus. However, these results are not applicable to Korean people because of genetic and environmental differences. Therefore, we need to plan and perform a diabetes prevention study in Korean. Based on these results, we should design intervention tools for a Korean diabetes prevention program. We can consider several preventive interventions with lifestyle modification suitable for Korean people and pharmacologic treatments such as metformin or alpha-glucosidase inhibitor.
