This paper presents the investigation results on the classification of the university campuses. For the classification, we selected the spatial index as the evaluation indicator since the environmental factors and maintenance methods vary from university campus to university campus. For the study, we used eight spatial indices of the 30 national universities. This paper provides the spatial characteristics of different campus types, presents campus classification analysis as a future research approach to campus maintenance, and provides the data for the future study of comparison among universities. The results are as follows. 1) The classification investigation categorized the university campuses into three groups. Type 1 is a large-scale type, located near downtown. Type 2 is a medium-scale type, located at a remote site from downtown. Type 3 is a small-scale type, which is located comparatively near downtown. 2) Type 1 is a large-scale mixed area type, and 13 universities belong to this group. Type 2 is a medium-scale suburban area type, and six universities are in this group. Finally, Type 3 is a small-scale downtown area type, and 11 universities belong to this group.

Post Occupancy Evaluation(POE) has a good role to improve or adapt the design items through the survey or interview of the resident. Among buildings, the university dormitory provides the living function to support the study in the university. Therefore, it needs to find the design elements and improve the living and study condition for residents. In this paper. it aimed at conducting the POE in university women dormitory for women and providing the building and design items for the next improvement. In addition, it aimed at analyzing the relation between the building satisfaction and the affecting factors, dividing the building into 8 spatial area such as room, entrance area, toilet and etc.. For these, data are surveyed the women dormitory located in the north area of Kyungsangbuk-Do and collected the 683 samples. This study shows some results ; First, the resident evaluates living condition of the dormitory room is a little good. Second, the freshman has a good score more than any other grade, which probably affect the period of the experience and exposure in university. In addition, residents get affect from the finishings, furniture and inconvenience. Third, the resident evaluates living condition of the dormitory room is a little good. Fourth, the satisfaction degree is affected by each size more than any other components in 8 spatial areas. Especially, the number of laundry machine is important factor for satisfaction. Second, the overall satisfaction is affected by room size higher than any other factors.

This study considers the concept of schools and their spatial composition by John Dewey through literature review who argued for a new, children-centered education in the early 19th century, and it also mentions some suggestions for improvement of the elementary school facilities in Korea that the size and number of students in school has decreased sharply. John Dewey claimed that a school is a big household as well as a small society in which one studies the current occupation and experience in connection between the household-school-society. At the same time, he pursued an organic and open spatial composition which can effectively and efficiently enable educational curriculum's application, social occupation and project learning based on children's native impulse and stage in child growth. Korea's education policy should shift from quantity-based education production to quality-based production due to the reduction of school age population among other reasons. Especially this study emphasizes that small size schools need to be changed to local community facilities with environment-friendly, children-centered and open learning spatial composition with basis on John Dewey's educational philosophy.
