The purpose of this study was to develop a practical caries activity test using laser fluorescence. The subjects of study were 30 children of $7\sim10$ years old. Fluorescence from initial carious lesion of teeth illuminated by an argon laser(488nm) was observed through barrier alter. For evaluation of accuracy and propriety of this method fer caries activity test, teeth with initial caries lesion on buccal or labial surface of children was examined with visual inspection and laser fluorescence. Visual examination for the dDfFtT and the $Cariescreen^{(R)}$ test were also done. The results from the present study can be summarized as follows: 1. Laser fluorescence test could differentiate initial caries lesions more easily than visiual inspection. 3. There was highest correlation(= 0.73) between laser fluorescent test and $Cariescreen^{(R)}$ test and. And also apparent correlation(= 0.66) exists between laser fluorescent test and caries experience measured by dDfFtT.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of mind map activity on scientific attitude and science achievement in elementary school science. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade students selected from two classes in elementary school located in Seoul. The subjects were classified into two groups: One group is composed of thirty-eight students(experimental group) who were participated in mind map activity, and the other is composed of thirty-five students(control group) who were participated in traditional teaching situation. Pretest showed that there were no significant differences between experimental and control group in scientific attitude and science achievement. The results were as follows: First, the experimental group showed a significant improvement in the post-test science achievement compared to the control group. Second, the experimental group showed insignificant improvement in the post-test scientific attitude compared to the control group. Third, female students and mid-ranking group showed a significant improvement in the post-test science achievement. Fourth, in sex and academic ranking, experimental group did not show significant difference in the post-test scientific attitude. In conclusion, mind map activity was more effective than traditional teaching situation on science achievement. But mind map activity was less uneffective than traditional teaching situation on scientific attitude.
This paper describes a new parameter for voice activity detection which serves as a front-end part for automatic speech recognition systems. The new parameter called run-ratio is derived from the runs test statistic which is used in the statistical test for randomness of a given sequence. The run-ratio parameter has the property that the values of the parameter for the random sequence are about 1. To apply the run-ratio parameter into the voice activity detection method, it is assumed that the samples of an inputted audio signal should be converted to binary sequences of positive and negative values. Then, the silence region in the audio signal can be regarded as random sequences so that their values of the run-ratio would be about 1. The run-ratio for the voiced region has far lower values than 1 and for fricative sounds higher values than 1. Therefore, the parameter can discriminate speech signals from the background sounds by using the newly derived run-ratio parameter. The proposed voice activity detector outperformed the conventional energy-based detector in the sense of error mean and variance, small deviation from true speech boundaries, and low chance of missing real utterances
Purpose: This study examined the effects of an integrated activity program on the self-efficacy and depression of underprivileged elderly women living alone. Methods: The participants recruited were fifty underprivileged elderly women living alone in D city. Data were collected from September 1 to October 1, 2015. To test the effects of the integrated activity program, the participants were divided into two matched groups, an experimental group (N=25) and control group (N=25). The data were analyzed with a ${\chi}^2-test$, Fisher's exact probability test, and t-test using the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: After attending the integrated activity program, significant differences between the experimental group and control group were found for self-efficacy (t=9.19, p<.001) and depression (t=-18.31, p<.001). Conclusion: The results indicate that the integrated activity program enhances self-efficacy and reduces depression in underprivileged elderly women living alone. Therefore, this program is a good strategy that community mental health nurses can use to improve the mental health of underprivileged elderly women living alone.

The purpose of this study is to develop the system which convert the optical difference of teeth texture between intact enamel and incipient caries lesion into shade difference by laser fluorescence and to develop new and simple caries activity test using laser fluorescence. The experimental design of this study consists of three parts. In first part, a new method for the in vitro assessment of changes in initial enamel caries lesion of Bovine teeth using laser fluorescence is tested. In second part, in vivo assessment undertaken. Number of teeth which showed incipient carious lesion on buccal surface examined by laser fluorescence was compared with the caries activity test of $Cariescreen^{(R)}$ test and other oral environmental test of dDfFtT. In third part, new caries activity test measured by laser fluorescence was developed on the basis of above results and evaluated the sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic power. Optical density measured by laser fluorescence was increased as increasing the depth of incipient carious lesion and showed high correlation$(\gamma=0.7015)$ with lesion depth. Optical density showed direct proportion to lesion depth. Linear equation was obtained between the optical density and the lesion depth by regression analysis. The result of caries activity test with laser fluorescence showed high correlation with those of $Cariescreen^{(R)}$ test and dDfFtT examination. Caries activity test with laser fluorescence showed 48% of sensitivity, 52% of specificity, and 45% of diagnostic power on the basis of dDfFtT examination, and also showed 48% of sensitivity, 51% of specificity, and 36% of diagnostic power on the basis of $Cariescreen^{(R)}$ test. In regard above result, caries activity test with laser fluorescence considered to be reliable for caries activity test compared with other oral environmental test. and it was also considered to be practical because it would be simple, inexpensive, and time saving method.

Purpose : This study was investigated the effect of lower extremity muscle activity during open kinetic chain exercise (OKC) and closed kinetic exercise (CKC) in normal young adults. Methods : The participants were consisted of forty-one. All subjects were randomly assigned to two groups of open kinetic chain exercise group (n=21) and closed kinetic chain exercise group(n=20). It was perform 3 sets, 3 times per week for 6 weeks both open kinetic chain exercise group and closed kinetic chain exercise group. Subjects were assessed for each subject took pre-test, post-test in 2 weeks, post-test in 4 weeks, post-test in 6 weeks measurement the surface EMG data for vastus medialis and lateralis, lateral and medial hamstring, lateral and medial gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior. Results : The vastus medialis and lateralis muscle activity was significantly increased within the intervention period both group(p<.05). The lateral and medial part of hamstring muscle activity was significantly increased with in the intervention period(p<.05). The tibialis anterior muscle activity of open kinetic chain exercise group and closed kinetic chain exercise group was significantly increased in the intervention period(p<.05). The lateral and medial part of gastrocnemius muscle activity of open kinetic chain exercise group and closed kinetic chain exercise group was significantly increased with in the intervention period(p<.05). Conclusion : It was found that both open kinetic chain exercise and closed kinetic chain exercise was significantly increased muscle activity. Further studies are needed to analyzed long term effects and subjects resulting from these changed. these exercises can be selectively adapted not only as treatment exercise for patients but also as preventive exercise for normal person to improve balancing ability by conducting proper amount of exercise for each individual's condition and stage.
This study aimed at examining an effect of peer counselor's mentor activity on rejected children's peer relationship in elementary school. To achieve this goal, the following hypothesis was made. Hypothesis I : Peer counselor's mentor activity will improve rejected children's peer relationship. I -1 : Peer counselor's mentor activity will improve rejected children's trust to peer. I -2 : Peer counselor's mentor activity will improve rejected children's respect to peer. To test the hypothesis, after sociometry papers 19 fifth-graders for rejected children groups were selected from four classes at H elementary school in Busan according to Coie & Dodge's(1988) five classified system that is modified to Korean situation by Ahn ie-hwan(2006). Ten rejected students from two classes were labeled as a peer group with a peer counselor and nine rejected students who had similar characteristics from two classes were labeled as an non-peer group without a peer counselor. The peer counselors were decided by obtaining affirmative mentions of rejected students group. Peer counselors participated in the training of peer counselor's skill program and then they had a person to person mentor activity with the rejected children's group that they belonging to. The training consisting of a total of four sessions, 3 times a week, was provided to peer counselors eleven times after school. The peer counselors given the peer counselling training did person to person mentor activity with the peer group's rejected children for a month. The mentor activity, three times a week, following during training was reinforced after school. For peer counselor training, the elementary school children's peer counseling program developed by Lee Sang-hi, Roh Seong-deok and Lee Ji-eun(2001) was used. Hong Ok-soon's(1984) peer relationship test, Moreno's(1934) sociometry tool were used to verify an effect of the peer counselor's mentor activity. For the data analysis, quantitative analysis with sociometry tool and qualitative analysis with social status and social type change were used. To know the difference in pre test and post test peer relationship between experimental group and control group, in quantitative analysis, ANCOVA result was used and qualitative analysis, social status and social type was used. The finding was as followings. First, after peer counselor's mentor activity, there was a significant improvement in rejected children's trust and respect to peer and the whole relationship from the pretest to the post test. Second, peer counselor's mentor activity gave rise to affirmative changes on rejected children's social status and social type. This study concluded that peer counselor's mentor activity would help rejected children's peer relationship to change affirmatively and improve.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of posture correction and real-time visual feedback using a video display on muscle activity and change of head position during overhead arm lift test in individuals with forward head posture. Methods: Fifteen subjects with forward head posture and fifteen normal subjects who volunteered were included in this study. During both groups performed the overhead arm lift test, the muscle activity of the upper trapezius, serratus anterior, sternocleidomastoid, and lower trapezius muscle were measured using electromyography, and head position change was measured using photographs. Then, forward head posture group was asked to perform overhead arm lift test again after posture correction and real-time visual feedback using a video display respectively. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze four conditions: pre-test, posture correction, real-time visual feedback, and the control group. Results: The upper trapezius and lower trapezius muscle activity significantly decreased posture correction, real-time visual feedback, and control group than pre-test of forward head posture group (p<0.05). The sternocleidomastoid muscle significantly decreased real-time visual feedback and control group than pre-test of forward head posture group. Head position change significantly decreased three conditions than pre-test of forward head posture group and real-time visual feedback and control group significantly decreased than posture correction. Conclusion: This study recommend for maintaining cervical stability during the overhead arm lift test, postural control using real-time visual feedback is more effective in subjects with forward head posture.
Background: A tight iliotibial band (ITB) may lead to lateral patellar maltracking, compression, and tilt, and dominant vatus lateralis (VL) muscle activation relative to vastus medialis oblique (VMO) can laterally displace the patella, which leads to anterior knee pain. Therefore, an effective management technique is needed to stabilize the patella in individuals with tight ITB. Increased stability during the modified Thomas test has the potential to decrease compensatory motion and thus to selectively stretch the ITB. Objects: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of ITB stretching in the modified Thomas test position on ITB flexibility, patellar translation, and muscle activities of the VMO and VL during quadreceps-setting (QS) exercise in individuals with tight ITB. Methods: Twenty-one subjects with tight ITB were recruited. Digital inclinometer was used to measure the hip adduction angle during the modified Ober test. Universal goniometer was used to measure the hip abduction angle during the modified Thomas test. Ultrasonography was used to measure the patella-condylar distance. Electromyography was performed to collect data of muscle activities. Paired t-test was used to determine the statistical significance between pretest and posttest. Results: The range of hip adduction in modified Ober test increased (p=.04) and the range of hip abduction in the modified Thomas test decreased after ITB stretching (p<.01). There was no difference between lateral patellar translation (p=.18). VMO muscle activity significantly increased after ITB stretching during QS (p<.01). VL muscle activity had no difference after stretching. Conclusion: The ITB stretching in the modified Thomas test position can be suggested as a management method for improving ITB flexibility and VMO muscle activity in individuals with tight ITB.
