OPTIMAL L2-ERROR ESTIMATES FOR EXPANDED MIXED FINITE ELEMENT METHODS OF SEMILINEAR SOBOLEV EQUATIONS

  • In this paper we derive a priori $L^{\infty}(L^2)$ error estimates for expanded mixed finite element formulations of semilinear Sobolev equations. This formulation expands the standard mixed formulation in the sense that three variables, the scalar unknown, the gradient and the flux are explicitly treated. Based on this method we construct finite element semidiscrete approximations and fully discrete approximations of the semilinear Sobolev equations. We prove the existence of semidiscrete approximations of u, $-{\nabla}u$ and $-{\nabla}u-{\nabla}u_t$ and obtain the optimal order error estimates in the $L^{\infty}(L^2)$ norm. And also we construct the fully discrete approximations and analyze the optimal convergence of the approximations in ${\ell}^{\infty}(L^2)$ norm. Finally we also provide the computational results.

  • We propose and analyze two-scale product approximation for semilinear heat equations in the mixed finite element method. In order to efficiently resolve nonlinear algebraic equations resulting from the mixed method for semilinear parabolic problems, we treat the nonlinear terms using some interpolation operator and exploit a two-scale grid algorithm. With this scheme, the nonlinear problem is reduced to a linear problem on a fine scale mesh without losing overall accuracy of the final system. We derive optimal order $L^{\infty}((0, T];L^2({\Omega}))$-error estimates for the relevant variables. Numerical results are presented to support the theory developed in this paper.

  • Balasubramaniam and Muralisankar (2004) proved the existence and uniqueness of fuzzy solutions for the semilinear fuzzy integrodifferential equations with nonlocal initial condition. Park et al. (2006) found the sufficient condition of this system. Recently, Kwun et al. (2006) proved the existence and uniqueness of solutions for the semilinear fuzzy integrodifferential equations with nonlocal initial conditions and forcing term with memory in $E_N$. In this paper, we study the controllability for this system by using the concept of fuzzy number whose values are normal, convex, upper semicontinuous and compactly supported interval in $E_N$.

  • In this paper, we establish the existence of solutions and the approximate controllability for the semilinear neutral differential control system under natural assumptions such as the local Lipschitz continuity of nonlinear term. First, we deal with the regularity of solutions of the neutral control system using fractional powers of operators. We also consider the approximate controllability for the semilinear neutral control equation, with a control part in place of a forcing term, using conditions for the range of the controller without the inequality condition as in previous results.

  • In this paper, we study the optimal control for the damped semilinear hyperbolic systems with unknown parameters (C(t)y')'+ $A_2$(t, q)y'+ $A_1$(t, q)y = f(t, q, y, u). We will prove the existence of weak solution of this system and is to find the optimal control pair (q, u) $\in$ $Q_{t}$ ${\times}$ $U_{ad}$ such that in $f_{u}$$\in$ $Q_{t}$/ J(q, u) = J(q, u).$_{t}$/ J(q, u) = J(q, u).

  • We study the existence and uniqueness of nonnegative singular solution u(x,t) of the semilinear parabolic equation $$ u_t = \Delta u - a \cdot \nabla(u^q) = u^p, $$ defined in the whole space $R^N$ for t > 0, with initial data $M\delta(x)$, a Dirac mass, with M > 0. The exponents p,q are larger than 1 and the direction vector a is assumed to be constant. We here show that a unique singular solution exists for every M > 0 if and only if 1 < q < (N + 1)/(N - 1) and 1 < p < 1 + $(2q^*)$/(N + 1), where $q^* = max{q, (N + 1)/N}$. This result agrees with the earlier one for N = 1. In the proof of this result, we also show that a unique singular solution of a diffusion-convection equation without absorption, $$ u_t = \Delta u - a \cdot \nabla(u^q), $$ exists if and only if 1 < q < (N + 1)/(N - 1).

  • In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of solutions for the impulsive semilinear fuzzy integrodifferential equations with nonlocal conditions and forcing term with memory in n-dimensional fuzzy vector space ($E^n_N$, $d_{\varepsilon}$) by using Banach fixed point theorem. That is an extension of the result of Kwun et al. [9] to impulsive system.
