  • Recently, satellite formation flying has been a topic of significant research interest in aerospace society because it provides potential benefits compared to a large spacecraft. Some techniques have been proposed to design optimal formation trajectories minimizing fuel consumption in the process of formation configuration or reconfiguration. In this study, a method is introduced to build fuel-optimal trajectories minimizing a cost function that combines the total fuel consumption of all satellites and assignment of fuel consumption rate for each satellite. This approach is based on collocation and nonlinear programming to solve constraints for collision avoidance and the final configuration. New constraints of nonlinear equality or inequality are derived for final configuration, and nonlinear inequality constraints are established for collision avoidance. The final configuration constraints are that three or more satellites should form a projected circular orbit and make an equilateral polygon in the horizontal plane. Example scenarios, including these constraints and the cost function, are simulated by the method to generate optimal trajectories for the formation configuration and reconfiguration of multiple satellites.

  • In the analysis of constrained holonomic systems, the Lagange multiplier method yields a system of second-order ordinary differential equations of motion and algebraic constraint equations. Conventional holonomic or nonholonomic constraints are defined as geometric constraints in this paper. Previous works concentrate on the geometric constraints. However, if the total energy of a dynamic system can be computed from the initial energy plus the time integral of the energy input rate due to external or internal forces, then the total energy can be artificially treated as a constraint. The violation of the total energy constraint due to numerical errors can be used as information to control these errors. It is a necessary condition for accurate simulation that both geometric and energy constraints be satisfied. When geometric constraint control is combined with energy constraint control, numerical simulation of a constrained dynamic system becomes more accurate. A new convenient and effective method to implement energy constraint control in numerical simulation is developed based on the geometric interpretation of the relation between constraints in the phase space. Several combinations of energy constraint control with either Baumgarte's Constraint Violation Stabilization Method (CVSM) are also addressed.

  • To conform to new emerging computing paradigm, various researches and challenges are being done. New information technologies make easy to access and acquire information in various ways. In other side, however, it also makes illegal access more powerful and various threat to system security. In this paper, we suggest a new extended access control method that make it possible to conform to security policies enforcement even with discrepancy between policy based constraints rules and query based constraints rules, based on their semantic information. New method is to derive security policy rules using context tree structure and to control the exceed granting of privileges through the degree of the semantic discrepancy. In addition, we illustrate prototype system architecture and make performance comparison with existing access control methods.

  • Available-to-promise (ATP) exhibiting availability of manufacturing resources can be used to support customer order promising. Recently, one advanced function called Capable-to-promise (CTP) is provided by several modern APS (advanced planning system) that checks available capacity for placing new production orders or increasing already scheduled production orders. At the customer enquiry stage while considering the order delivery date and quantity to quote, both ATP and CTP are allocated to support order promising. In particular, current trends of mass customization and multi-side production chain derive several new constraints that should be considered when ATP/CTP allocation planning for order promising - such as customer's preference plants or material vendors, material compatibility, etc. Moreover, ATP/CTP allocation planning would be executed over a rolling time horizon. To utilize capacity and material manufacturing resource flexibly and fulfill more customer orders, ATP/CTP rolling planning should possess resource reallocation mechanism under the constraints of order quantities and delivery dates for all previous order promising. Therefore, to enhance order promising with reliability and flexibility to reallocate manufacturing resource, the ATP/CTP reallocation planning mechanism is needed in order to reallocate material and capacity resource for fulfilling all previous promised and new customer orders beneficially with considering new derived material and capacity constraints.

  • The optimal portfolio choice problem with a stochastic income is considered in continuous-time framework. We provide a novel approach to treat the stochastic income when the market is complete. The developed method is useful to obtain closed-form solutions of the problems under borrowing constraints.

  • In order to reduce the variation effects of uncertainties in the engineering environments, new robust optimization method, which considers the uncertainties in design process, is proposed. Both design variables and system parameters are considered as random variables about their nominal values. To ensure the robustness of performance function, a new objective is set to minimize the variance of that function. Constraint variations are handled by introducing probability constraints. Probability constraints are solved by the advanced first order second moment (AFOSM) method based on the reliability theory. The proposed robust optimization method has an advantage that the second derivatives of the constraints are not required. The suggested method is examined by solving three examples and the results are compared with those for deterministic case and those available in literature.

  • This paper deals with the optimization of blade stiffened composite panels. The main objective of the research is to make response surfaces for the constraints. The response surface for warping thermal deformation was previously made for a fixed dimension composite structure. In this study, the dimensions of the blade stiffener were treated as design variables. This meant that a new response surface technique was required for the constraints. For the response surfaces, the lamination parameters, linear thermal expansions and dimensions of the structures were used as variables. A genetic algorithm was adopted as an optimizer, and an optimal result, which satisfied two constraints, was obtained. As a result, a new response surface was obtained, for predicting warping thermal deformation.

  • A new generation planning algorithm considering environmental constraint by using fuzzy technique is developed. This algorithm has a new formula which can consider environmental constraints and an effective solving method which has newly developed fuzzy dual procedure. By using this algorithm, economic generation planning considering environmental constraints can be scheduled. The usefulness of this method is verified by applying it to the test system.

  • This study presents a new method to derive the constraint coefficient from the degree of angular deformation caused by welding, as measured experimentally by varying the shape of welded joints and the magnitude of constraints and from analysis results given by the elastic FEM method. The equivalent load was then calculated with this constraint coefficient. The validity of the numerical analysis involved in this new method was confirmed by its agreement with the experimental results. As for the effects of the constraints based on the shape of the welded joints in the case of Butt welding when the constraint coefficients are not considered, the deformed quantity produced by analysis is larger that produced by experiment and consequently is largely affected by the constraints. However, in the case of Fillet welding, the deformed quantity is seldom affected regardless of constraint coefficient considerations.
