Content of Heavy Metals in Paddy Soils and Brown Rice from Kunsan Industrial Complex Area (군산 공업단지 인근 논 토양 및 수도체 중 중금속 함량)

  • Contents of heavy metals in paddy soils and brown rice of near the Kunsan industrial complex area were investigated. Average total heavy metal contents in paddy soils were Pb 34.33, Cd 0.50, Cu 35.49, and Zn 71.67 mg/kg respectively. There are no correlation between distances from industrial complex and contents of heavy metals in paddy soils. Average contents of heavy metals in brown rice grown above paddy soil were Pb 1.74, Cd 0.07, Cu 3.54, and Zn 16.53 mg/kg. Relationships between 0.1N HCl soluble heavy metals in paddy soils and contents of brown rice showed positive significant correlations for Pb at l% $level(r=0.6853^{**})$ and for Zn at 5% $level(r=0.5420^*)$. Relationships between total contents of heavy metals in paddy soils and contents of brown rice showed only positive significant correlation for Pb at 1% $level(r=0.7131^{**})$. Contents of heavy metals in paddy soils and brown rice of near the Kunsan industrial complex was polluted partly by the influence of smoke and dust out from industrial complex but not polluted anxious level

Studies on the Effluent Characteristics of Dyeing Wastewater by Textile Classification (섬유 형태에 따른 염색폐수 배출특성 연구)

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of the non-biodegradable material, the $BOD_5/COD_{Cr}$ ratio was used. The average ratio of industrial complex's influent wastewater was 2.29~2.96, the effluent ratio was 4.29~19.0. The removal efficiency of $UV_{254}$ by physicochemical treatment was 22.8~94.7% and 5.3~77.2% by biological treatment, respectively. Of the wastewater removal efficiency for each of the items, the $BOD_5$ treatment efficiency was the greatest at 97.3% and the color & TN treatment efficiency was 40~70%. The study of the economical assessment showed that the complex as well as the individual companies spent 722~1,298 won for each ton of treated wastewater. All of the wastewater treatment facilities spent the most money on chemicals needed to treat the wastewater. The total cost for Nylon manufacturing wastewater treatment plant was the greatest while the total cost for cotton manufacturing wastewater treatment plant turned out to the lowest. As respects of removal efficiency and economocal assessment, Polyester A and Cotton manufacturing wastewater treatment plants were better effective than a dyeing industrial complex wastewater treatment plant.

Odor Modeling of trimethyl amine in Gumi National Industrial Complex (구미국가산업단지의 트리메틸아민 악취모델링)

  • In this study CALPUFF modeling was performed to predict a contribution of a separate single point pollutant source as well as of total point pollutant sources of major synthetic fiber manufacturers in Gumi national industrial complex to atmospheric trimethylamine concentration of the same area. In addition, a contribution of the separate single point pollution source to the atmospheric trimethylamine concentration of the same area was estimated relatively to the total point pollutant sources. As a result of the CALPUFF modeling, the maximum atmospheric concentration of trimethylamine in Gumi national industrial complex was appeared upon improving T company emission facility frequently in complex 3 in winter (January) and spring (April) while frequently in complex 1 in summer (July) and autumn (October). Besides, the predicted range of the maximum atmospheric concentration of trimethylamine in complex 1 was improved upon improving its emission facility. However, even though in complex 3 the upper bound of the predicted maximum atmospheric concentrations of trimethylamine was increased upon improving T company emission facility, the predicted value of their second upper bound below the upper bound was very similar to the upper bound of measured atmospheric trimethylamine concentrations in Gumi prior to improving its emission facility. Thus, the effect of improving T company emission facility was estimated huge in complex 1 while it was trivial in complex 3. These maximum concentrations of trimethylamine predicted to estimate the expected contribution of total point pollutant sources by CALPUFF modeling showed the similar values to those measured in the region of Gumi. Therefore, the expected contribution of total point pollutant sources to atmospheric trimethylamine concentration in the area of Gumi was validated.

  • The Consultation about Energy Use Plan is prescribed by the Energy Use Rationalization Act. In order to reset Examination Criteria for Energy Use Plan, consultation case analysis from 2001 to 2010 were carried out and National Energy Master Plan was reviewed. This study proposes that Examination Criteria for Energy Use Plan be should divided into Urban & Tourism complex development project and Industrial complex development project for the prevention of civil complain. Also predicts that effect of energy savings calculated by Reset Examination Criteria on $1^{ST}$ energy demand BAU at 2030 is 2.2%, effect of new & renewable energy utilization at 2030 is 3% and the rate of $CO_2$ reduction to greenhouse gas emission BAU at 2020 is 1.1%.

  • This study compared the unweighted sample design, frequency weighted sample design and complex sample design to using 2009 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in an effort to identify whether or not there is any difference in potential risk factors. Pearson chi-square test and Rao-scott chi-square test were applied to the analytic methods. As a result of analyses, all the variables were overestimated as significant risk factors in case of the unweighted sample design to which only the frequency weights were applied. In addition, there were differences in the confidence levels and results from the simple random sampling analysis and complex sample design to which no weight was applied. It is necessary to carry out the complex sample design rather than the analysis to which the frequency weights are applied, in order to ensure the findings to represent the whole population when our national statistics data is used.

  • This study aims to analyze an evolutionary path and the dynamics of the Seoul Digital Industrial Complex in Korea based on the analysis of cluster life cycles. From the mid 1960s to the late 1990s, the life cycles and their characteristics of the Seoul Digital Industrial Complex (Guro Industrial Park) are examined as emergence-growth-sustainment-decline focused on the number of firms and employees. After the late 1990s, the number of firms and employees increases rapidly and the active actors of the growth and restructuring are transformed to the technology-intensive SMEs and knowledge-based service firms. Knowledge industry centers (apartment-type factories) help evolve into the life cycle of transformation as knowledge-based clusters after the mid 2000s.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the governance system involved in the policy of upgrading the Seongseo industrial complex in Daegu city. The governance system was evaluated by four indicators; social legitimacy, reliability, expertness, and transparency. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. It is expected that the Seongseo industrial complex upgrading policy would accelerate to upgrade the industry structure and competitiveness of the cluster. However, the firms of the cluster have a Question of reliability to the actors of initiating the policy. In this context, to raise the trust level the policy needs to turn towards making the communication channel among the stake-holders of the cluster more democratically and horizontally. It is also problematic to reveal the low degree of expertness of the policy's decision makers, the fragmented system of policy operation and a lack of information. Consequently, the policy is required to improve the transparency on the policy-making process, and to activate the participation of professional groups and civil society.

  • For efficient development of rural facilities, 4 step optimum locational decision model was developed using agricultural-cum-industrial complex as a representative one ; formulation of locational goal system, ranking tabulation on components, determination of their significance values, calculation of their scores. The application results of the model to 3 typical case study areas(peri-urban flat, mountainous, coastal areas) showed relatively good representation of their areal characteristics.
