  • In designing and evaluating manipulators, itis important to understand the capability of kinematic and static performances. Both workspace and manipulability can be considered as such performance measures. In general, the measure of manipulability is related to the kinematics for serial type manipulators. However.in case of parallel manipulators such as Stewart Platform, the manipulability can be interpreted as the static capability of transforming the input forces of actuators to the wrench of the end-effector. In this paper, the mathematical and physical meanings of manipulability suggested in some research works have been examined, and more meaningful measure of manipulability using the absolute minimum eigenvalues of J $^{T}$ .del. J has been suggested, which has been applied to a Stewart Platform in order to investigate the manipulability of this mechanism..

  • A Potential Field Method is applied to the proposed algorithm for the planning of collision-free paths of redundant manipulators. The planning is carried out on the base of kinematic configuration. To make repulsive potentials, sources are distributed on the boundaries of obstacles. To escape from local minimum of the main potential and to attack other difficulties of the planning, various potentials are defined simultaneously, Inverse Kinematics Problems of the redundant manipulators are solved by unconstrained optimization method. Computer simulation result of the path planning is presented.

  • Recent requirements for the fast and accurate motion in industrial robot manipulators need more advanced control techniques. To satisfy the requirements, importance of the force control is being continuously increased and the expensive force sensor is often installed to obtain the contact force information in practice. This information is indispensable for the force control of maintaining the desired contact force. However, the sensor cost is too high to be used in industrial applications. In this paper, it is proposed to estimate the contact force occurred between the end-effector of robots and environment in 3-D. The contact force monitoring system is developed based on the static and dynamic models of 3 DOF robot manipulators, where the contact force is described with respect to the link torque. The Extended Kalman Filter is designed and its performance is verified in simulations.

  • This paper presents a visual servoing of RV-M2 robot manipulators to track and grasp moving object, using pruned dynamic recurrent neural networks(DRNN). The object is stationary in the robot work space and the robot is tracking and grasping the object by using CCD camera mounted on the end-effector. In order to optimize the structure of DRNN, we decide the node whether delete or add, by mutation probability, first in case of delete node, the node which have minimum sum of input weight is actually deleted, and then in case of add node, the weight is connected according to the number of case which added node can reach the other nodes. Using evolutionary programming(EP) that search the struture and weight of the DRNN, and evolution strategies(ES) which train the weight of neuron, we pruned the net structure of DRNN. We applied the DRNN to the Visual Servoing of a robot manipulators to control position and orientation of end-effector, and the validity and effectiveness of the pro osed control scheme will be verified by computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose time-optimal trajectory planning algorithms for cooperative multi-robot manipulators system considering optimal load distribution. Internal forces essentially effect on time optimal trajectory planning and if they are comitted, the time optimal scheme is not no longer true. Therefore, we try to find the internal force factors of cooperative robot manipulators system in a time-optimal aspect. In this approach, a specific generalized inverse is used and is fuzzified for the purpose. In this optimal method, the fuzzy logic concept is used and selected for diminishing computation time, for finding the load distribution factors.

  • In this paper, adaptive algorithms on the sliding model control for robust tracking control of robust manipulators are presented. The presented algorithms use adaption laws for tuning both the sliding mode gain and the thickness of the boundary layer to reject a disconitnuous control input, and to improve the tracking performance. It is shown that the robustness of the developed adaptive algorithms are guaranteed by the sliding mode control law and that the algorithms are globally convergent in the presence of disturbances and modeling uncertainties. Computer simulations are performed for a two-link manipulator, and the results show good properties of the proposed adaptive algorithms under large mainpulator parameter uncertainties and disturbances.

  • We suggests an effective method to construct time-varying C-obstacles in the 3-dimensional configuration space (C-space) using free arc. The concept of free arc was defined mathematically and the procedure to find free arc in the case off-dimensional C-space was derived in [1]. We showed that time-varying C-obstacles can be constructed efficiently using this concept, and presented simulation results for two SCARA robot manipulators to verify the efficacy of the proposed approach. In this paper, extensions of this approach to the 3-dimensional C-space is introduced since nearly all industrial manipulators are reasonably treated ill the too or three dimensional C-space f3r collision avoidance problem The free arc concept is summarized briefly and the method to find lice arc in the 3-dimensional f-space is explained. To show that this approach enables us to solve a practical collision avoidance problem simulation results f3r two PUMA robot manipulators are presented.

  • A neural optimization network and fuzzy rules are proposed to control the redundant robot manipulators in an environment with obstacle. A neural optimization network is employed to solve the optimization problem for resolved motion control of redundant robot manipulators in an environment with obstacle. The fuzzy rules are proposed to determine the weights of neural optimization networks to avoid the collision between robot manipulators and obstacle. The inputs of fuzzy rules are the resultant distance and change of the distance and sum of the changes by differential motion of each joint. And the output of fuzzy rules is defined as the capability of collision avoidance of joint differential motion. The weightings of neural optimization networks are adjusted according to the capability of collision aboidance of each joint. To show the validities of the proposed method, computer simulation results are illustrated for the redundant robot of the planar type with three degrees of freedom.

  • Recently various control algorithms for industrial manipulators have been proposed. However, computation time, modelling error, and torque type controller design have prevented real-time implementation. As the result, most of performance evaluations of control algorithms have been carried out only by computer simulations. In this paper, we explore real-time implementation to show the feasibility and effectiveness of such algorithms. Experimental results indicate that computed torque method and learning control algorithms can be effectively applied to control industrial manipulators.

  • A program is developed for generating the dynamic equations for the robotic manipulators using the symbolic language muSIMP/ MATH. The muSIMP/ MATH is a LISP-based computer. algebra package, devoted to the manipulation of algebraic expressions including numbers, variables, functions, and matrices. The muSIMP-MATH can operate on personal computer such as IBM-PC. The program is developed, based on the Lagrange-Euler formulation. This program is applicable to the manipulators with any number of degrees of freedom, and maximum number of degrees of freedom is set to be six in this program.
