Design of a dedicated DSP core for speech coder using dual MACs (Dual MAC를 이용한 음성 부호화기용 DSP Core 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In the paper, CDMA's vocoder algorithm, QCELP, was analyzed. And, 16-bit programmable DSP core for QCELP was designed. When it is used two MACs in DSP, we can implement low-power DSP and estimate decrease of parameter computation speed. Also, we implemented in FIFO memory using register file to increase the access time of the data. This DSP was designed using logic synthesis tool, COMPASS, by top-down design methodology. Therefore, it is possible to cope with rapid change at mobile communication market.

  • For the testability, this paper proposed the algorithm at autonomous synthesis which includes the data path structure as the self testing as possible on high level synthesis method when VHDL, coding is used in the system design area. In the proposed algorithm of this paper, MUXs and registers are assigned to the data path of designed system. And the designed data path could be mapped the H/W specification of described VHDL coding to the testable library. As a results, it was mapped H/W to the assign algorithm that is minimized MUX and the registers in collision graph.

  • In this paper, we propose an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) to implement an automated 2D avatar synthesis. The IGA technique is capable of expressing user's personality in the avatar synthesis by using the user's response as a candidate for the fitness value. Our suggested IGA method is applied to creating avatars automatically. Unlike the previous works, we introduce the concepts of 'hidden population', as well as 'primitive avatar' and 'simplified genotype', which are used to overcome the shortcomings of IGA such as human fatigue or reliability, and reasonable rates of convergence with a less number of iterations. The procedure of designing avatar models consists of two steps. The first step is to detect the facial feature points and the second step is to create the subjectively optimal avatars with diversity by embedding user's preference, intuition, emotion, psychological aspects, or a more general term, KANSEI. Finally, the combined processes result in human-friendly avatars in terms of both genetic optimality and interactive GUI with reliability.

A New Approach to the Synthesis of Two-Dimensional Cellular Arrays Using Internal Don't Cares (내부 Dont't care를 이용한 이차원 셀 배열의 새로운 합성 방법)

  • This paper presents a new approach to the synthesis of two-dimensional arrays such as Atmel 6000 series FPGAs using internal don't cares. Basically complex terms which fits to the linear array of cells without further routing wires are generated and they are collected by OR/XOR operations. In previous methods, complex terms are collected only by XOR operations, which may not be effective for nearly unate functions. In this paper, we allow complex terms to be collected by OR operations in addition to XOR operations. First, complex terms that lies in the ON-set of the function are generated and collected by OR operations. The sub-function realized by the first stage becomes an internal don't cares and they are exploited in the second stage which generates complex terms collectable by XOR operation. Experimental results shows the efficacy of the proposed method compared to the previous methods.

  • This Paper discusses the history of the conflicts between synthesis and analysis, from those in heuristic and logic development style in ancient Greek to those in projective geometric methods. The two methods, which originally displayed difference in heuristic, offer the base for the two fields of geometry, the analytic geometry and the synthetic geometry in the 18th century as they originated from the field of geometry. As to the 19th century, they even display antagonistic aspects derived by having other perspectives about the true nature of mathematic but finally lose the reason of conflict as the ancient times when the dialectical sublation of both had been proposed.

  • The conventional PLL(phase locked loop) frequency synthesizer takes a long switching time because of the inherent closed-loop structure. The digital hybrid PLL(DH-PLL) which includes the open-loop structure into the conventional PLL synthesizer has been studied to overcome this demerit. It operates in high speed, but the hardware complexity and power consumption are the serious problem because the DLT(digital look-up table) is usually implemented by the ROM which contains the transfer characteristic of VCO(voltage controlled oscillator). This paper proposes a new DH-PLL using a very simple DLT-replacement digital logic instead of the complex ROM-type DLT. Also, a timing synchronization circuit for the very small over-shoot and shorter settling time is designed for the ultra fast switching speed at every frequency synthesis. The hardware complexity gets decreased to about $28\%,$ as compared with the conventional DH-PLL. The high speed switching characteristic of the frequency synthesis process can be verified by the computer simulation and the circuit implementation.

  • Even though there are 256 possible 1-qudit(1-variable quantum digit) functions in quaternary logic, the most useful functions are 4!=24 ones capable of representing in QGFSOP expressions by possible permuting of 0,1,2, and 3. In this paper, we propose a permutational literal(PL) representation and a QPL(Quaternary PL) gate which use the operands of a multiplicand A and an augend D in $Ax^C$+D(GF4) operation as a control variable of multi-cascaded PLs. And we also present new PL synthesis algorithms to synthesize QGFSOP expressed 24 (1-qudit) functions by applying three PL operators as ab(mutual permutation), + D(addition), and XA (multiplication). Finally architectures, circuits, and a CMOS implementation to realize proposed PL synthesis algorithms for $Ax^C$+D(GF4) functions are presented.

  • We propose a new CPLD(Complexity Programmable Logic Device) technology mapping algorithm improving run-time under time constraint. In our technology mapping algorithm, a given logic equation is constructed as the DAG(Directed Acyclic Graph) type, then the DAG is reconstructed by replicating the node that outdegree is more than or equal to 2. As a result, it makes delay time and the number of CLBs, run-time to be minimized. Also, after the number of multi-level is defined and cost of each nodes is calculated, the graph is partitioned in order to fit to k that is the number of OR term within CLB. The partitioned nodes are merged through collapsing and bin packing is performed in order to fit to the number of OR term within CLB(Configurable Logic Block). In the results of experiments to MCNC circuits for logic synthesis benchmark, we can shows that proposed technology mapping algorithm reduces run-time and the number of CLBs much more than the TEMPLA.

  • The histogram equalization algorithm is the most crucial algorithm for image enhancement. Since its direct hardware implementation always requires a divider or multiplier, its implementation cost tends to increas as the image resolution is increased or diverse image resolutions are handled. In this paper, we propose a divider-free reconstruction of histogram equalization algorithm and the corresponding hardware architecture. The logic synthesis results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the logic gate count by 84.2% compared to the conventional implementation example when the UXGA resolution is considered.

  • In this paper, we present an efficient hardware architecture for the frame memory of the MPEG-2 video encoder. Both the total size of internal buffers and the number of logic gates are reduced by the proposed memory map which can provide an effective interface between MPEG-2 video encoder and the external DRAM. Furthermore, the proposed scheme can reduce the DRAM access time. To realize the frame memory hardware,$0.5\mu\textrm{m}$, VTI, vemn5a3 standard cell library is used. VHDL simulator and logic synthesis tool are used for hardware design and RTL (register transfer level) function verification. The frame memory hardware emulator of the proposed architecture is designed for gate-level function verification. It is expected that the proposed frame memory hardware using VHDL can achieve suitable performance for MPEG-2 MP@ML.
