Half Value Layer calculations theoretically need prior specification of linear attenuation calculations, since the HVL value is derived by dividing ln(2) by the linear attenuation coefficient. The purpose of this study was to establish a direct computational model for determining HVL, a vital parameter in nuclear radiation safety studies and shielding material design. Accordingly, a typical gamma-ray transmission setup has been modeled using MCNPX (version 2.4.0) general-purpose Monte Carlo code. The MCNPX code's INPUT file was designed with two detection locations for primary and secondary gamma-rays, as well as attenuator material between those detectors. Next, Half Value Layer values of some well-known gamma-ray shielding materials such as lead and ordinary concrete have been calculated throughout a broad gamma-ray energy range. The outcomes were then compared to data from the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The Half Value Layer values obtained from MCNPX were reported to be highly compatible with the HVL values obtained from the NIST standard database. Our results indicate that the developed INPUT file may be utilized for direct computations of Half Value Layer values for nuclear safety assessments as well as medical radiation applications. In conclusion, advanced simulation methods such as the Monte Carlo code are very powerful and useful instruments that should be considered for daily radiation safety measures. The modeled MCNPX input file will be provided to the scientific community upon reasonable request.
The model is verified thorough simulations and experiments. And then the developed model is applied to a half car model and automobile vibrations are analyzed. The effects of tire design parameters on the automobile vibration energy are investigated. The results from laboratory and field tests confirm the validity of the analytical model. The 17-DOF half-car model is built to analyze the automobile vibration. The characteristics of the nonlinear model for a shock absorber are applied to this model. The results from the present 17-DOF half car model incorporating the analytical tire model with tire design parameters, are compared with a 5-DOF half car model where the tire is modeled with linear springs. The results of the 17-DOF model are closed to experimental results. Using the 17-DOF model, the influences of tire design parameter are considered. According to the results of analyses, the vibrations at seat/body/wheel are predicted by simulation and experiment.
First lactation records (174) of Jersey${\times}$Sahiwal and Holstein Friesian${\times}$Sahiwal half breds under 9 sires maintained at Chandra Shekher Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India from 1975-1983, were used to estimate the genetic parameters and to predict herd life milk yield and average milk yield per day of herd life from first lactation traits. The traits included were: age at first calving, first service period, first lactation period, first calving interval, first lactation milk yield, milk yield per day of first calving interval, herd life milk yield, herd life and average milk yield per day of herd life. Most of the production and reproduction traits were found to have positive and significant correlations between them on genetic as well as phenotypic scales. Total twelve regression equations were fitted. The prediction equation of herd life milk yield in both the genetic groups showed linear relationship with AFC, FSP, FLP, FLMY and MY/DCI and was apparent and significant. Similarly, polynomials for milk yield per day of herd life for J${\times}$S and HF${\times}$S half breds also showed linear trend, which was found highly significant. The highest and lowest $R^2$ values were found for FCI and AFC, respectively.
Functional mismatch and thought and plan-less material use of recently built boundary barriers in rural areas should greatly degrade their amenity value as one of linear villagescapes, but, their present state-of-art basically necessary for problem-solving had never surveyed up to now. From this point of view, this study tried to investigate present stock quantities and qualities of boundary barriers in rural areas by sample studies on 21 case villages(7 types ${\times}$ 3 cases) and comparative analysis between the planned or improved and nots. Wall type was absolutely dominated in the structural terms, of which more than half was used cement block as building material and, therefore, grey-colored. More than half of total barrier length were fully shielded, while relatively partially shielded in the mountainous villages in open space and 'Cultural villages' with closed housing structures. Free standing style of barriers was shown along over two thirds of their total length, although not more than half in planned reclaimed villages. Especially, because of one-sided wall type structure, mismatched over-shieldness and poorer maintenance condition of the boundary barriers in peri-urban villages, there should be provided with very intensive improvement efforts for amenity barriers.
Material damping is an important parameter to evaluate the site response by a dynamic loading. Currently the material damping of the subgrade is mainly determined by a resonant column testing. Typical methods to evaluate material damping include half-power bandwidth method and free-vibration decay method. In the large strain range, the half-power bandwidth method gives an erratic damping factor, because the method is based on the assumption of the linear behavior of a specimen. The free-vibration decay method has also limitations in that the damping factors vary with the range of cycles in calculation, and also in that the specific shear strain can not be designated for the free vibration. In this study, the frequency-phase method, which was developed to evaluate material damping of a beam simply supported, is introduced to evaluate the material damping by the resonant column testing. Also, the comparison among half-power method, free-vibration decay method and the frequency-phase method is provided for a remolded sand.
This paper describes an efficient global cell (module) placement strategy called HALO (Hierarchical Alternating Linear Ordering)which generates global 2-D placement of circuit modules by hierarchical application of linear ordering in alternating direction. We tried, in principle, to explain why HALO should perform better than other typical, somehat successful, analytical approaches such as min-cut, force-directed relaxation(FDR)or its likes. We have implemented HALO as a program for standard cell placement. Experimental results on two benchmark circuits, primary and primary 2 consisting of 752 and 2907 cells, respectively have shown a decrease of half-perimeter routing length by 7% and 24%, respectively compared to the best available results obtained so far. Total CPU time including the following detailed placement was less than half of the earlier work.
The right half plane (RHP) zeros may cause severe problems, such as undershoots, oscillations and time delay in the transient response of the systems. In this paper, we formulate a linear quadratic type problem to deal with the effects of the RHP zeros in the nonminimum phase systems. Based on the LQ formulation, this paper shows the trade-off relation between undershoot and rising time performances in nonminimum phase systems by using a new performance index which consists of new state and tracking error. And performances of the proposed method are shown via computer simulations.
Several reinforced concrete structures that get deteriorated by rebar corrosion are retrofitted using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). When rebar comes in direct contact with CFRP, rebar may corrode, as iron is more active than carbon. Progression of corrosion of rebar in strengthened RC structures has been carried out when rebar comes in direct contact with CFRP. The experimentation is carried out in two phases. In phase I, corrosion of bare steel bar is monitored by making its contact with CFRP. In phase II, concrete specimens with surface bonded CFRP were casted and subjected to the realistic exposure conditions keeping direct contact between rebar and CFRP. Progression of corrosion has been monitored by various parameters: Half-cell potential, Tafel extrapolation and Linear Polarisation Resistance. On termination of exposure, to find residual bond stress between rebar and concrete, pull-out test was performed. Rebar in contact with CFRP has shown substantially higher corrosion. The level of corrosion will be more with more area of contact.

A novel linear switched termination active cross-coupled low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) transceiver operating at 1.5 GHz clock frequency is presented. On the transmitter side, an active cross-coupled linear output driver and a switched termination scheme are applied to achieve high speed with low current. On the receiver side, a shared pre-amplifier scheme is employed to reduce power consumption. The proposed LVDS transceiver implemented in an 80 nm CMOS process is successfully demonstrated to provide a data rate of 6 Gbps/pin, an output data window of 147 ps peak-to-peak, and a data swing of 196 mV. The power consumption is measured to be 4.2 mW/pin at 1.2 V.
Numerical modeling for electromagnetic exploration methods are essential to understand behaviours of electromagnetic fields in complex subsurfaces. In this study, a finite element method was adopted as a numerical scheme for the 2.5-dimensional forward problem. And a finite element equation considering linear conductivity variation was proposed when 2.5-dimensional differential equation to couple eletric and magnetic field was implemented. Model parameters were investigated for near-field with large source effects and far-field with responses dominantly by homogeneous half-space. Numerical responses by this study were compared with analytic solutions in homogeneous half-space and compared with other three dimensional numerical results.
