  • In this paper, we propose a new detector based on the median-shift sign. We call it the median-shift sign (MSS) detector, which is an extension of the classical sign detector. We first analyze the problem of detecting a dc signal in noise of known probability density function (pdf). The MSS detector with the optimum median-shift value, the optimum MSS detector, performs better than the sign detector in Gaussian noise: it has the best performance among the detectors compared in Laplacian and Cauchy noise. It is shown that the MSS detectors with constant median-shift values are nearly equal to the optimum MSS detector. We also analyze the problem of detecting a dc signal when only partial information is available on the noise. The MSS detectors with constant median-shift values are almost equal to the sign detector in Gaussian noise: they perform better than the sign and Wilcoxon detectors for most signal ranges in Laplacian and Cauchy noise.

  • We present and discuss an algorithm for the numerical solution of initial value problems of the form $D_*^\alpha$y(t) = f(t, y(t)), y(0) = y0, where $D_*^\alpha$y is the derivative of y of order $\alpha$ in the sense of Caputo and 0<${\alpha}{\leq}1$. The algorithm is based on the fractional Euler's method which can be seen as a generalization of the classical Euler's method. Numerical examples are given and the results show that the present algorithm is very effective and convenient.

  • This paper suggests a new criterion for testing the general linear hypothesis about coefficients in multivariate growth curve model. It is developed from a Bayesian point of view using the highest posterior density region methodology. Likelihood ratio test criterion(LRTC) by Khatri(1966) results as an approximate special case. It is shown that under the simple case of vague prior distribution for the multivariate normal parameters a LRTC-like criterion results; but the degrees of freedom are lower, so the suggested test criterion yields more conservative test than is warranted by the classical LRTC, a result analogous to that of Berger and Sellke(1987). Moreover, more general(non-vague) prior distributions will generate a richer class of tests than were previously available.

  • In this paper, the $2^{nd}$ order hydrodynamic force effect of heaving submerged circular cylinder is considered, with the linear potential theory. Boundary value problem (BVP) is expanded up to the $2^{nd}$ order by using of the perturbation method and the $2^{nd}$ order velocity potential is calculated by means of integral equation technique using the classical Green's function expressed in cylindrical coordinates. The method of solving BVP is based on eigenfunction expansions. With different cylinder heights and heaving frequencies, graphical results are presented. As a result of the study, the cause of oscillatory force pattern is analyzed with the occurrence of negative added mass when a top of the cylinder gets closer to the free surface.

  • In this paper, we prove some existence and uniqueness results on coincidence points for g-monotone mappings satisfying linear as well as generalized nonlinear contractivity conditions in ordered metric spaces. Our results generalize and extend two classical and well known results due to Ran and Reurings (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 132 (2004), no. 5, 1435-1443) and Nieto and $Rodr{\acute{i}}guez$-$L{\acute{o}}pez$ (Acta Math. Sin. 23 (2007), no. 12, 2205-2212) besides similar other ones. Finally, as an application of one of our newly proved results, we establish the existence and uniqueness of solution of a first order periodic boundary value problem.

  • In [6], it was shown that hyponormality for Toeplitz operators with polynomial symbols can be reduced to classical Schur's algorithm in function theory. In [6], Zhu has also given the explicit values of the Schur's functions ${\Phi}_0$, ${\Phi}_1$ and ${\Phi}_2$. Here we explicitly evaluate the Schur's function ${\Phi}_3$. Using this value we find necessary and sufficient conditions under which the Toeplitz operator $T_{\varphi}$ is hyponormal, where ${\varphi}$ is a trigonometric polynomial given by ${\varphi}(z)$ = ${\sum}^N_{n=-N}a_nz_n(N{\geq}4)$ and satisfies the condition $\bar{a}_N\(\array{a_{-1}\\a_{-2}\\a_{-4}\\{\vdots}\\a_{-N}}\)=a_{-N}\;\(\array{\bar{a}_1\\\bar{a}_2\\\bar{a}_4\\{\vdots}\\\bar{a}_N}\)$. Finally we illustrate the easy applicability of the derived results with a few examples.

  • This paper presents a new integer formulation (Type III ALB) for a single model assembly line balancing problem. The objective of the formulation is to minimize the total idle time, which is defined as the product of the number of work stations and the cycle times minus the total work content. This formulation considers currently existing Type I (minimizing the number of work stations for a given cycle time) and type II (minimizing the cycle time for a given number of work stations) formulations as its special cases and provides the global minimum solutions of the cycle time and the number of work stations. This information would be of great value to line designers involved in designing new assembly lines and rebalancing old lines under flexible conditions. Solution methods based on combination of Type I and Type II approaches are also suggested and compared.

  • The hierarchical covering location problem emphasizes the issue of locating of hierarchical facilities in order to maximize the number of customers that can be covered. In the classical HCLP(Hierarchical Covering Location Problem), it is assumed that the customers are covered completely if they are located within a specific distance from the facility, and not covered otherwise. The generalized HCLP is introduced that the coverage of customers is measured to be any real value rather than 0 or 1, where the service level may decrease according to the distance. Mixed integer programming formulation for the generalized HCLP is suggested with a partial coverage of service. Solutions are found using OPL Studio, and are evaluated for various cases.

  • Pickands constant $H_{\alpha}$ appears in the classical result about tail probabilities of the extremes of Gaussian processes and there exist several different representations of Pickands constant. However, the exact value of $H_{\alpha}$ is unknown except for two special Gaussian processes. Significant effort has been made to find numerical approximations of $H_{\alpha}$. In this paper, we attempt to compute numerically $H_{\alpha}$ based on its representation derived by $H{\ddot{u}}sler$ (1999) and Albin and Choi (2010). Our estimates are compared with the often quoted conjecture $H_{\alpha}=1/{\Gamma}(1/{\alpha})$ for 0 < ${\alpha}$ ${\leq}$ 2. This conjecture does not seem compatible with our simulation result for 1 < ${\alpha}$ < 2, which is also recently observed by Dieker and Yakir (2014) who devised a reliable algorithm to estimate these constants along with a detailed error analysis.

  • In this paper, the accurate end position control method of ultraprecision machine tool post using piezoelectric material as an micro positonong devics is presented. This method employs the classical PID feedback and uses an additional notch filter which eliminates the resonance characteristics of controlled plant. And the simple predictor is added to make use of the future value of desired input for better tracking performance. To show the feasibilty of proposed method, the PC-based experimental apparacy can be obtained. Using method, Al specimen of diameter 100mm was cut under practical machining condition to test the practicability of proposed method.
