  • Objectives : To research the trend of the study related to Chuna(推拿) and to establish the direction of further studies into the Chuna(推拿). Methods : We reviewed and analyzed all theses published by Korean research institution. And these theses were classified by research institutions, published year, field of study, subject, research methods, thesis types, illness and symptoms. Results : The following results were obtained in this study. 1. Classified by the major field of study, oriental medicine accounted for 59 papers, followed by 18 in physical education and 2 in the science of nursing and medicine. 2. Upon classifying theses according to research method and thesis types, research related to clinical trial accounted for nearly half of all theses. It was followed by consideration of documents. 3. After 1998 deals with the effects of the Chuna on variable illnesses such as: ossified posterior longitudinal ligament, chronic coccyalgia, entrapment neuropathy, low birth weight infant, Bell's palsy, stress incontinence, paramenia, Parkinson disease, Bertolloti syndrom, TMJ (because of scoliosis) etc. 4. Two most widely cured illnesses using the Chuna therapy are scoliosis and HNP of L-spine. However, when considering the fact that several clinical tests and casuistics did not include research into Lumbago (including HNP of L-spine), it can be concluded that most of the Chuna therapies have been concentrated on Lumbago. Conclusion : As it can be seen in the above results, the possibility of curing illness through Chuna and the usefulness of Chuna have been shown factually and clinically through various consideration of documents, clinical trial & casuistics. Based upon such facts, it is regarded that further scientific research along with additional clinical approaches involving the Chuna should be performed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the variables that affect the problem behavior of children and to examine the relationships between problem behavior of young children in relation to the child's characteristics(temperament and ego-resiliency), the mother's characteristics(parenting stress and personality characteristics), and the teacher's characteristics(teacher-child relationship and emotional expressiveness). The researcher surveyed 314 parents and 56 teachers of young children in the transitional period from 32 early childhood institutes in Daejeon. The summaries of the results of the study are as seen below. First, the child's gender and mother's education were statistically significant variables in explaining the variance in problem behavior of young children. More boys than girls showed more problem behaviors and children of mothers who graduated university showed less problem behavior. Second, teacher-child relationship was the most predictive variable in problem behavior of young children. Children who had good relationships with their teachers showed less problem behavior and children who had poor relationships with their teachers showed more problem behavior. The results of this study can provide basic data for consulting and developing program to prevent and treat the problem behavior of young children to consider the development of children.

  • This paper deals with the free vibration of horizontally curved beams with transition currie. Based on the dynamic equilibrium equations of a curved beam element subjected to the stress resultants and inertia forces, the governing differential equations are derived for the out-of-plane vibration of curved beam with variable curvature. These equations are applied to the beam having transition curve in which the clothiod curve is chosen in this study. The differential equations are solved by the numerical methods lot calculating the natural frequencies and mode shapes. For verifying theories developed herein, the frequency parameters obtained from this studs and ADINA are compared with each other. As the numerical results, the various parametric studies effecting on natural frequencies are investigated and those results are presented in tables and figures.

  • This study explores economic and psychological factors as well as dietary, clothing, and dwelling lifestyle factors that influence the happiness of college students. For this, a survey of 570 students (222 males and 348 females) was conducted using 72 categories, including general characteristics, the happiness index, the health index, and economic, psychological, dietary, clothing, and dwelling factors. Gender differences in student characteristics were analyzed through an independent samples t-test, and relationships between variables were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients. Variables showing significant correlations with the happiness index were classified as independent variables for the dependent variable of the happiness index and used for a regression analysis. The happiness index showed no significant gender difference, but it was higher for males than for females. Males scoring higher in the economic lifestyle and self-esteem, among others, were more likely to think practically, and their economic lifestyles were relatively rational. In both genders significant positive correlations were found between the happiness index and allowance satisfaction, the allowance level, the economic lifestyle, self-esteem, major satisfaction, and peer satisfaction. Variables more likely to influence the happiness index for males were self-esteem, peer satisfaction, the economic level, major satisfaction, and regular exercise, whereas those for females were self-esteem, peer satisfaction, and stress eating. These results indicate that emotional factors such as self-esteem and peer satisfaction were more likely to influence the happiness index of college students for both genders than economic and physical factors.

  • Perceptions of organizational politics(POPs) have stress-based effect as job demand and lead to employee's negative attitudes and behaviors. According to job demand resource model, burnout develops when high job demand deplete employee's resources, which lead employees to low levels of motivation and high levels of cynicism and frustration. Currently, in studying the relationship between POPs and burnout there is a lack of researches on certain settings and conditions. The present study examined a model in which relationship between POPs and burnout was mediated by psychological need satisfaction. And also, this study tested moderating role of psychological capital between POPs and need satisfaction. A total of 220 employees in telco and electronic manufacturing company in South Korea participated in this study. The result of this study showed that need satisfaction works as mediating variable between POPs and burnout and psychological capital had moderating effect between POPs and need satisfaction. This study proposes a new framework of POPs by examining linking mechanism of need satisfaction and psychological capital. The results of this study provide practical insight to HR practitioners and business leaders.

  • This study examined the effects of group social support on the reduction of burden and increase in well-being of mothers of developmentally delayed children. The research used a one group pre-pose experimental design. The independent variable in the experiment was group social support. Two series of 4-weekly meetings for group social support were conducted by the researcher with the intention of developing a self-help group. The dependent variables were burden and well-being. Well-being was operationalized as physical symptoms and quality of life. Thirty mothers of developmentally delayed infants from the rehabilitation center of a medical center participated in the study. Data were collected by interviews and a self-administered questionnaire. The mean age of the subjects was 29.9 years. Changes of the dependent variables between pre and post tests were compared using the t-test. Even though there was a slight improvement in the scores for the dependent variables, they were not statistically significant. The items, "I resent my baby". "I feel angry about my interactions with my baby", "I feel guilty in my relationship with my baby" showed a significant decrease in burden score and were statistically significant. Symptoms of loneliness, constipation, anxiety, restlessness were less and feeling of happiness was greater after participation in the group social support, than on the pretest. The mothers showed emotional instability and frustrations during the group sessions but their reactions in general were positive. Emotional support, stress management and information provided were identified as the most valuable content of the sessions. However, participation was not active due to the mother's denial, delayed acceptance and /or avoidance of their infants' problems. It can be seen that group social support for the mothers with developmentally delayed children should be provided after infancy when the mothers have time to accept their children's conditions and are ready to receive support. The use of comprehensive instruments which measure burden in both families and mothers needs to be developed for future research.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate North Korean refugees' knowledge of mental illnesses and treatments and analyze the factors affecting this knowledge. Methods: Subjects were selected via a snowball sampling method, and the survey outcomes of 152 North Korean refugee participants were analyzed. The factors affecting knowledge of mental illnesses were analyzed via a regression analysis by constructing a multivariate model with mental illness knowledge score as the dependent variable. Results: The North Korean refugees' mental illness scores ranged from 3 to 24 points, with an average score of 13.0. Regarding the factors that influence mental illness knowledge, the subjects with South Korean spouses and those who had spent more time in South Korea had higher knowledge scores. Furthermore, the subjects who considered the mental health of North Korean refugees to be a serious issue revealed lower knowledge scores than those who did not believe it was a serious issue. The subjects who visit psychiatric clinics showed higher knowledge scores than those who do not. The South Korean subjects who had at least a college education exhibited higher scores than did those without advanced education. The subjects who are satisfied with life in South Korea manifested a higher mental illness knowledge score than those who are not. Conclusions: This study is significant as being the first study to ever measure and evaluate the level of North Korean refugees' knowledge of mental illnesses. In addition, the evaluations of North Korean refugees' mental illness knowledge and influencing factors while residing in South Korea created basic data that formed the foundation of an effort to enhance mental health literacy and provide proper mental health services. The results of this study can be utilized to solve mental health problems that might frequently occur during the unification process of North and South Korea in the future.

  • Purporse : The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between a health promoting lifestyle and body composition in university students. The study subjects were 194 university students who attended K-university located in Chungnam. Methods : The data was collected between March 2 and May 31, 2004. The instrument used for this study was the modified Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile(HPLP) developed by Walker, Sechrist, & Pender(1987). The body composition was measured by In Body 3.0, a Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer. The data was analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 10.0 program by t-test, ANOVA and pearson correlation coefficients. Results : The results of this study are as follows: 1) The scores of the Health Promoting Lifestyle(HPL) ranged from 79 to 170, with a mean score of 110(±15.8). The mean scores of sub-categorical HPL were self-actualization 31.8(±4.9), health responsibility 17.0(±4.0), exercise 8.3(±3.2), nutrition 15.4(±3.7), interpersonal relationships 20.3(±3.5) and stress management 17.2(±3.4). 2) The HPL according to the subjects' general characteristics had significant correlation to exercise amount(F=8.09, p<.01), drinking amount(F=6.56, p<.01), perceived health status(F=19.2, p<.01) and perceived health knowledge (F=15.9, p<.01). 3) The total HPL did not significantly correlate with any categories in body composition. The exercise area of sub-categorical HPL had significant positive correlation to height (r=.199, p<.01), weight(r=.181, p<.05) and soft lean mass(r=.257, p<.01), and negative correlation to percent body fat(r=-.255, p<.01) in body composition. Conclusion : The results suggest that the exercise area of sub-categorical HPL was an important variable for an exercise program's development such as nursing intervention for the health promotion of university students.
