Mobile IP (MIP) is the solution supporting the mobility of Mobile Nodes (MNs), however, it is known to lack the support for NEtwork MObility (NEMO). NEMO manages situations when an entire network, composed of one or more subnets, dynamically changes its point of attachment to the Internet. NEMO Basic Support (NBS) protocol ensures session continuity for all the nodes in a mobile network, however, there exists a serious pinball routing problem. To overcome this weakness, there are many Route Optimization (RO) solutions such as Bi-directional Tunneling (BT) mechanism, Aggregation and Surrogate (A&S) mechanism, Recursive Approach, etc. The A&S RO mechanism is known to outperform the other RO mechanisms, except for the Binding Update (BU) cost. Although Improved Prefix Delegation (IPD) reduces the cost problem of Prefix Delegation (PD), a well-known A&S protocol, the BU cost problem still presents, especially when a large number of Mobile Routers (MRs) and MNs exist in the environment such as train, bus, ship, or aircraft. In this paper, a solution to reduce the cost of delivering the BU messages is proposed using a multicast mechanism instead of unicasting such as the traditional BU of the RO. The performance of the proposed multicast-based BU scheme is examined with an analytical model which shows that the BU cost enhancement is up to 32.9% over IPDbased, hence, it is feasible to predict that the proposed scheme could benefit in other NEMO RO protocols.

In contrast to traditional "store-and-forward" routing mechanisms, network coding offers an elegant solution for achieving maximum network throughput. The core idea is that intermediate network nodes linearly combine received data packets so that the destination nodes can decode original files from some authenticated packets. Although network coding has many advantages, especially in wireless sensor network and peer-to-peer network, the encoding mechanism of intermediate nodes also results in some additional security issues. For a powerful adversary who can control arbitrary number of malicious network nodes and can eavesdrop on the entire network, cryptographic signature schemes provide undeniable authentication mechanisms for network nodes. However, with the development of quantum technologies, some existing network coding signature schemes based on some traditional number-theoretic primitives vulnerable to quantum cryptanalysis. In this paper we first present an efficient network coding signature scheme in the standard model using lattice theory, which can be viewed as the most promising tool for designing post-quantum cryptographic protocols. In the security proof, we propose a new method for generating a random lattice and the corresponding trapdoor, which may be used in other cryptographic protocols. Our scheme has many advantages, such as supporting multi-source networks, low computational complexity and low communication overhead.

Recently, various infrastructure-less IoT networking schemes have been studied to construct local IoT networks based on self-organization. This is, because RPL protocol, which is to support infrastructure based network construction is used to construct local IoT networks. Thus, a self-organization networking and ad hoc path between client and server in local IoT networks is not supported in basis RPL protocol. In this paper, we propose a self-organization networking scheme which support infrastructure-less based IoT network construction in low-power and lossy network based IoT environments consisting of IoT devices with the constrained feature, such as low power, the limited transmission rate and low computing capacity. Through simulation, we show that the proposed self-organization networking scheme improves the performance, in terms of the number of packets generated for end-to end data transmission and the end-to-end delay, compared to basis RPL protocol.

LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) has been proposed as a routing protocol with a hierarchical structure, in order to achieve the energy efficiency that is of primary importance in the wireless sensor networks. A wireless sensor network adopting LEACH is composed of a few clusters, each of which consists of member nodes that sense the data, and head nodes that deliver the collected data from member nodes to a sink node that is connected to a backbone network. A head node in a cluster allocates TDMA slots to its member nodes without taking into account whether they have data to transmit or not, thus resulting in inefficiency of energy usage of head node that remains in active mode during the entire round time. This motivates us to propose a scheme to improve the energy efficiency of LEACH, by assigning TDMA slots only to those member nodes who have data to send. As a result, the head node can remain sleep during the period of no data transmission from member nodes, leading to the substantial energy saving. By using the ns-2 simulator, we evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in comparison with the original LEACH. Experimental results validate our scheme, showing a better performance than original LEACH in terms of the number of outliving nodes and the quantity of energy consumption as time evolves.
An IP address is used as a host identifier and a locator to bind hosts and applications to their location in existing Internet. Several protocols are proposed to eliminate this binding. Most of these protocols use IPv6-based host identifiers to maintain compatibility with existing Internet, but these identifiers cannot be handled by standard IPv6 routers because such identifiers are unroutable. Therefore, host identifiers need to be usually converted to locators at hosts, and the standard IPv6 protocol should be modified to interoperate with these protocols. In this paper, we propose a network-based host identifier locator separating scheme in software-defined networking. The proposed scheme separates the underlying network into Host Identity and IP domains in order to directly forward unroutable identifiers. The Host Identity domain operates as an overlaid network over IP domain, and it makes the unroutable identifiers to be routable using distributed hash table based routing strategy. For the evaluation, we compared the proposed scheme with the previous scheme using signaling costs and packet delivery costs. The result shows that the proposed scheme is more suitable in the recent mobile-based environments.

In the Cluster-Based Routing Protocol (CBRP), a cluster header in each cluster is selected. The cluster headers consume energy much more than other nodes because they manage and operate all of mobile nodes in their cluster. The traditional CBRP selects a cluster header without considering the remaining energy of each node. So, there exists problems that the cluster header has short average lifetime, and another cluster header should be selected frequently. In this paper, we propose the advanced protocol which prolongs the lifetime of the cluster header and enhances the stability of the path. In order to achieve this, when a cluster header is elected in a cluster, the remaining energies of all of nodes are compared with one another, and the node with the highest energy is selected as the cluster header.

Wireless mesh network (WMN) is a promising technology for building a cost-effective and easily-deployed wireless networking infrastructure. To efficiently utilize limited radio resources in WMNs, packet transmissions (particularly, redundant packet transmissions) should be carefully managed. We therefore propose a lightweight traffic redundancy elimination (LTRE) scheme to reduce redundant packet transmissions in software-defined wireless mesh networks (SD-WMNs). In LTRE, the controller determines the optimal path of each packet to maximize the amount of traffic reduction. In addition, LTRE employs three novel techniques: 1) machine learning (ML)-based information request, 2) ID-based source routing, and 3) popularity-aware cache update. Simulation results show that LTRE can significantly reduce the traffic overhead by 18.34% to 48.89%.
PEGASIS, a chain-based protocol, forms chains from sensor nodes so that each node transmits and receives from a neighbor. In this way, only one node (known as a HEAD) is selected from that chain to transmit to the sink. Although PEGASIS is able to balance the workload among all of the nodes by selecting the HEAD node in turn, a considerable amount of energy may be wasted when nodes which are far away from sink node act as the HEAD. In this study, DERP (Distance-based Energy-efficient Routing Protocol) is proposed to address this problem. DERP is a chain-based protocol that improves the greedy-algorithm in PEGASIS by taking into account the distance from the HEAD to the sink node. The main idea of DERP is to adopt a pre-HEAD (P-HD) to distribute the energy load evenly among sensor nodes. In addition, to scale DERP to a large network, it can be extended to a multi-hop clustering protocol by selecting a "relay node" according to the distance between the P-HD and SINK. Analysis and simulation studies of DERP show that it consumes up to 80% less energy, and has less of a transmission delay compared to PEGASIS.

Network Mobility Basic Support protocol reduces location-update signaling by making network movements transparent to the mobile nodes (MNs) behind the mobile router (MR), but causes some problems such as sub-optimal routing and multiple encapsulations. This paper proposes an Route Optimization Employing HMIP Extension for Mobile Networks (ROHMIP) scheme for nested nubile networks support which introduces HMIP concept with relation information between MNNs behind a MR and the MR in order to localize handoff, to optimize routing and especially reduce handoff signal overhead. With ROHMIP, a mobile network node (MNN) behind a MR performs route optimization with a correspondent node (CN) as the MR sends a binding update message (BU) to mobility anchor point (MAP) via root-MR on behalf of all active MNNs when the mobile network moves. This paper describes the new mechanisms and provides simulation results which indicate that our proposal reduces transmission delay, handoff latency and signaling overhead.

Mobile IP has some performance degrade factors such as triangle routing and packet loss by the hand-off because the original IP was designed for the fixed network. The design goal for the next generation Internet service is to guarantee QoS. So, Mobile IP also should be able to provide the guaranteed QoS with performance enhancement because it is an IP-based mobile Internet service. In this paper, we propose route optimization, smooth hand-off scheme and MIP-LDP(Mobile IP-Label Distribution Protocol) on Mobile IP-over-MPLS framework to enhance the performance of the previously researched Mobile IP-over-MPLS schemes. The proposed framework enhanced long routing path problem and packet loss problem by the hand-off.
