UAM is emerging due to the deepening population concentration in the metropolitan area and the problem of congested ground transportation in urban areas. Accordingly, along with research on eVTOL aircraft for UAM services, interest in vertiport, the interest in vertiports, the infrastructure that allows eVTOLs to take off and land, is also increasing. However, behind the concentration of population in the metropolitan area, aphenomenon of local extinction is occurring in conjunction with the aging population. AAM, which moves quickly through 3D space, can be an effective SOC facility in times of local extinction crisis. In this paper, we introduce a design plan from the perspective of a complex transper center for a regional hub-level vertiport that can connect with local high-speed rail and utilize local airports in compliance with the vertiport design guidelines issued by FAA(Federal Aviation Administration) and EASA(European union Aviation Safety Agency). We would like to present Vertiport's future operation plan.
After the mainshock, whether the train can be allowed to pass the bridges plays an important role in ensuring the transport of supplies and rescue works for example, in the "12 May" earthquake in China, after evaluation, the bridge was still used for transportation in rescue at a very slow speed, engineers usually evaluate whether the train can pass the bridge safely based on the experience, lacks sufficient calculation basis and does not fully consider the risk caused by aftershocks. To address this issue, this paper comprehensively considers the randomness of track irregularity, the randomness of aftershock intensity and other multiple random sources in train-bridge interaction system (TBIS). The sensitivity of train to various random parameters after earthquake is analyzed from the perspective of probability, the most sensitive random variable in this paper is PGA of aftershocks, both for bridge and trailer car, With the increase of epicentral distance, the sensitivity of PGA will decrease, and correspondingly, for trailer car, the sensitivity of other random variables will increase, research in this paper provides a basis for the subsequent random analysis of post-earthquake driving safety.
The power plant is a major infrastructure composed of essential machinery such as Turbine Generators (TG), Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG), etc. Particularly, Combined Heat & Power Plants (CHP) are highly efficient power plants that simultaneously produce heat and electricity. Recently, cases have emerged where railway tunnels are being constructed beneath such power plants due to the underground development of urban rail transportation. Therefore, there is a pressing need to assess the impact of vibrations induced by blasting excavation during the construction of railway tunnels beneath the power plant, as well as the vibrations during railway operation, on the major machinery foundations and structures within the power plant. In this study, criteria for evaluating the vibration impact on key vibration-sensitive structures are summarized, and evaluation standards based on international criteria are established. Based on this, the study examines the vibration impact during the blasting excavation method of NATM tunnels beneath the operational power plant. Furthermore, subsequent railway operation, specifically focusing on the impact of train vibrations on Turbine foundations, Pump foundations, and District Heating pipelines using 3D dynamic numerical analysis. The results indicate that vibration values corresponding to up to 97.3% of the evaluation criteria are derived based on the numerical analysis. However, considering the significance of power plant-related structures, additional measures to reduce vibrations are proposed, including further test blasting, alteration of blasting patterns, reducing the charge per delay, or decreasing advance.
China has recently advocated a national strategy called "One Belt One Road" and transferred to execution to refine it into detailed action plans and has continued to fix the complement. However, the Korean Peninsula, including the North Korea remains could not be included at all in the Chinese development policy and framework in terms of the International Logistics. Currently it is raised between Korea-China rail ferry system again and that is when we need to make effective policy development on international multimodal transport system in Northeast Asia. This paper introduces the K-LB (Korea LandBridge) as its execution plan and conducted a feasibility study on this. K-LB consists of a Korea-Russian train ferry system based in Pohang Yeongil New Port(light-wing) and a Korea-China train ferry system based in Saemangeum New Port(left-wing). These two wings are linked to the existing rail system in Korea. This study is convinced that the K-LB is an effective international logistics system in the current terms and conditions and also demonstrated that it is feasible to introduce th K-LB on the peninsula. More strictly speaking, through a linear programming under objective function that minimize the transport cost quantified prior to demonstrate the feasibility, the available ranges and conditions for the transportation costs that are ensured the effectiveness of the K-LB are presented as results. According to the results, if the transport cost of K-LB is cheaper about 34.5% than that of sea transport such as container transport, the object goods may be transported by K-LB on this route. It means that the K-LB system has a competitive advantage due to more rapid customs clearance as well as omitted loading and unloading procedures over container transportation system. It also noted that the threshold level may not be large. Therefore, K-LB has competitive enough to prove its introduction in the Northeast Asian logistics system.

There is no question that railroad investment is crucial for better transport systems and the Korean government has continued to invest in railroad facilities. Nevertheless, the modal share of railroad, in particular, for freight has decreased. This is because rail freight transport can hardly meet customer needs such as just-in-time(JIT), a door-to-door service, compared to road transport, to be specific, trucking which can directly carry the freights to the final destinations. This has made the value of the railroad infrastructure less, which has been operated for the past 114 years. This study proposes a new freight movement concept called Piggy Back System. This system can carry freight trucks on the trains and deliver the freights to the final destinations. It can make a door-to-door deliver system possible for railroad transportation, which is the key factor for modal shift from road to railroad. For implementing this, this study proposes three important things: the cost-efficient reforming way of railroad yard that has been used for the past 114 years, the diagram plan of train services, and some technical reviews like clearance limits. This is the first study with practical proposals and solutions on this topic in Korea. The suggestions of this study cut down distribution costs by more than seven trillion won.
Purpose - As economic activities between different countries have rapidly spread in a world of free trade, it is inevitable that a large volume of cargo will be carried between countries. It is natural, then, that CO2 emissions and other environmental pollutions have followed, which exposes people and society to serious environmental problems and social costs, and so on. Therefore, the need to understand logistics is not only a matter of transportation but also an environmentally oriented matter. The purpose of this study is to look at some lessons and implications from the European case in terms of green logistics matters. Research design, data, and methodology - In order to look into this matter, first, it has to be established that some cargo transport volumes using different transportation modes have clearly declined because of previous economic recessions. Some transport policies produced by the European Union (EU) are based in a long history of struggling to cope with transport matters in European countries. In its recent transport policies, the EU has provided greener transportation alternatives, realizing that pollution matters affect the European transport market. This study tries to determine what policies the EU has implemented to deal with green logistics matters. This study concentrates in particular on the Marco Polo program in the EU. Results - This study found that the EU seems to consider these kinds of matters, that is, transport and the environment in the context of green logistics. The EU launched some policy instruments to solve this matter relatively earlier than other countries and reviewed them as necessary. In order to make these policy tools work, the EU provided PACT for combined transport, and then the Marco Polo I and II European transport white paper packages. These European policies deal with green logistics matters in two ways. First, some restrictions have been imposed, especially taxation, and so on. Transport subsidies are also powerful means of handling green logistics matters in Europe. Along with these two means of dealing with transport and the environment, the EU eventually targeted integration of different transport modes. Instead of employing only a single transport instrument mode to deliver the cargo to be carried, such as trucking, rail, ocean-going carrier, flight, or inland waterway transport, the EU has proposed that combining transport modes is the best alternative for transport and the environment. That is, the EU is pursuing the adoption of multimodalism as an answer to the green logistics challenge as it provides a more cost efficient and more productive means of transport. Conclusions - In conclusion, multimodal transport should be considered when applying green logistics, as it can provide an alternative way to achieve transport and environmental solutions together at the present time. Two methods can be used to encourage multimodal transport: restrictions and subsidies. These are the lessons and implications from European green logistics policies.
The purpose of this study is to reveal the component characteristics and the channels of distribution for forest products as a fuel that were consumed in Kyeongseong city (Seoul) in 1929, in the middle of the colonial period. The summary of the results are as follows; (1) though the average consumption of forest products consumed as a fuel per household in Kyeongseong city was slightly less than one-third as much forest products as fuel consumed in other counties of Kyeongki province, but due to the high heat capacity, the amount of fuelwood and charcoal consumption was much higher than leaf and grass consumption; (2) the largest supply areas of forest products for fuel were the riverside of Kangwon province and Kyeonggi province in which the waterways were available. They supplied 42.6% of total consumption, and the other supply areas were the northern part of Kyeonggi province, etc. (29.5%) where railroads were handy, and the suburbs of Kyeongseong City (27.9%) by roads; (3) the transportation areas using the Han River were divided into two parts of Ttook island (43.0%) and former Yongsan and Mapo (45.6%), but the volume of transportation by railroad was centralized in Kyeongseong Station, which accounted for 72.2% of total volume of transportation by rail; (4) the most of the forest products consumed for fuel in Kyeongseoung city were sold in temporary fuelwood markets, rather than permanent and regular markets.
During maintenance or construction works in or at the tracks of railways, high risks for passengers and railway staff, especially for the workers on the construction site exist. The high risks result out of the movement of rail vehicles, like trains or construction vehicles, which must be faced by using any available technical and operational technologies for securing them against the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the level of protection continuously and to identify new and innovative methods and technologies for the protection of the gang (construction worker, machines and material). Especially on construction sites at line sections with two or more parallel tracks but also with single tracks, there are still a lot of incidents and accidents mostly with seriously injured persons or fatalities. These were mainly gang members that breach the railway-loading gage. By using proper warning or protection systems, the avoidance of such accidents must be achieved. The latest developments. in gang protection systems concern on the one hand fixed barriers in the middle between the construction site and the operated track and on the other hand construction vehicles equipped with automatic warning systems. The disadvantage of such protection methods is that the gang can be warned against an approaching train but a monitoring of the gang members cannot be performed. Only one part of a potential dangerous situation will be detected. If the gang members will overhear the acoustic warning signal of the security staff and the workers will not leave the danger zone in the track, the driver of the approaching train had no chance to react to the dangerous situation. An accident is often inevitable. While the detection of acoustic warning signals by the gang members working on a construction site is very difficult, the acoustical planning of an automatic warning system has to be designed for an acoustic short range level of one meter besides the construction vehicle. The decision about the use of today's technical warning system (fixed systems, automatic warning systems, etc.) must be geared to the technical feasibility and the level of safety which is needed. Criteria for decision guidance to block a track should be developed by danger estimation and economical variables. To realize the actual jurisdiction and to minimize the hazards of railway operations by the use of construction vehicles near the tracks further developments are needed. This means, that the warning systems have to be enhanced to systems for protection, which monitor the realization of the warning signal as a precondition for giving a movement authority to a train. This method can protect against accidents caused by predictable wrongdoing. The actual state of the art technique of using a collective warning combined with additional security staff is no longer acceptable. Therefore, the Institute of Transportation System of the German Aerospace Center in Braunschweig (Germany) will develop a gang warning and protection system based upon imaging methods, with optical sensors such as video in visible and invisible ranges, radar, laser, and other. The advantage of such a system based on the possibility to monitor both the gang itself and the railway-loading gauge either of the parallel track or of the same track still in use. By monitoring both situations, the system will be able to generate a warning message for the approaching train, that there are obstacles in the track, so that the train can be stopped to prevent an accident. And also the gang workers will be warned, while they breach their area.
Most of Korea's 15 local airports, with the exception Jeju, Gimpo and Gimhae airports, have been several billion Won in the red each year. It has been reported that one of the causes of the poor financial performance is inaccurate air traffic demand predictions. Under the situation, the entry of low-cost carrier air service using turbo-prop airplanes into the domestic airlines market gets a wide range of support, which is expected to promote the convenience of consumers and help to activate local airports. In this study, the authors (1) suggest a high-speed transport demand model among existing airlines, Korea Train Express (KTX) and low-cost carrier air service; (2) try to make low-cost air carrier demand predictions for a route between Seoul and Daegu through a stated-preference survey; and (3), examine possible effectiveness of selected policy measures by establishing an estimation model. First, fare has a strong influence for mode choice between high-speed transport modes when considering the entry of low-cost carrier air service between Seoul and Daegu. Even low-cost carrier air service fare is set at 38,000 won, which is considerably low compared with that of KTX, in the regions where the total travel time is the same for both low-cost carrier air service and KTX, the probability of selecting low-cost carrier air service is 0.1, which shows little possibility of modal change between high speed transportation means. It is suggested that the fare of low-cost air service between Seoul and Daegu should be within the range of from of 38,000 to 44,000 Won; if it is higher, the demand is likely to be lower than expected.
To ensure that Korea continues to grow, past governments have been consistent in following a policy of advancing into Russia, Mongolia, and Eurasia. The northern economy can expect to achieve synergistic growth because its economic structure complements that of Korea, which has high energy demand and industrial development. There is also an opportunity to accelerate the growth of the China-Russia-Mongolia economic corridor, which is based on Russia's Look East Policy, China's One Belt One Road, and the Mongolian Steppe Road initiative. The Korean government is pursuing a New Northern Policy to achieve the goal of economic cooperation and peace building with other nations, including North Korea; this policy succeeds the Northern Policy pursued by the previous government. As international economic cooperation requires transportation infrastructure, the demand for shipping, which offers more advantages than road and rail transportation, will increase; thus, it is necessary to prepare for it. Korea's port cities, which have a port that serves as the nodal point for maritime transportation, need to prepare for the New Northern Policy. In this paper, the long-term development of Seosan-Daesan port in the was planned and the North Korea's opening-op plan was considered in accordance with the New Northern Policy. Because international cooperation between the government and the provincial cities is required, cooperation with the Port Authority is needed, along with the proactive attitude of Seosan City, Chungcheongnam-do. The Seosan-Daesan port, which is the center of the liquid energy cargo center, can become the base of the New Northern Policy Region; further, the port can be an opportunity to establish its position as a peaceful economic hub on the west coast of Korea.
