  • The purpose of this research is to compare the attitudes of female students in Korea toward science with the child-rearing attitude of their parents they perceived and their sex-role identity. The participants in this study were 374 female middle- and high-school students, chosen randomly from Seoul and Gyenggi-do in South Korea. We used three different forms of questionnaires in this research: "Scale of Parents' Child-rearing Behaviors Perceived by Teenagers", "Korea Sex-role Survey", and "Attitude Toward Science Measurement." The significant results were acquired after we had analyzed the comparison of the attitude of female students toward science with their perception on their parents' child-rearing attitude, especially on their fathers. The fathers' "monitoring" and "over-expectation" factors affected the attitudes of female students toward science; on the other hand, any child-rearing attitudes of their mothers did not influence their attitudes toward science. We also analyzed the attitudes of female students about science based on their sex-role identities. In consequence, we found that meaningful differences existed in four types of gender-role identity: androgyny type, masculinity type, femininity type and undifferentiated type. In particular, the androgyny type was characterized by a higher score in attitude toward science compared with the undifferentiated type.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the parents' rearing attitude perceived by high school students and students' covert narcissism on the adjustment of high school students. For that, research data are collected from 580 high school students in Busan. 524 students' data are analyzed through SPSS Ver. 21.0 to examine correlations and influences of parents rearing attitude, students' covert narcissism and adjustment ability to schools. The results obtained in this study are as follows: First, the finding shows that the adjustment of high school students has a significant static corelation with parents' rearing attitude which is perceived by students. Second, affective attitude of parents' rearing attitude, has the strongest influence on students compliance in school. In addition, goal-oriented and rational attitude of parents has an impact on students' scholastic aptitude and academic achievement. Third, students' goal-instability of life which is one element of students' covert narcissism has negative effect on overall students' school life. Thus, these results suggest that for a better adjustment of high school students, various parent education training and development of programs that can help students set up goals are needed. It also highlights the importance of counseling.

Data were collected by menas of conducting observations on infants in experimental settings and completing questionnaires with mothers. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The delay gratification of infants differed accordingly to their age. Older infants displayed increased time in showing their delay gratification, while younger infants relatively exhibited shortened time. There was no significant difference in infants' sex and the order of the birth. 2. Following the age factor, the distraction strategy in the delay strategy played a significant difference to infants. Older infants required a frequent use of the distraction strategy in comparison to younger infants. 3. The previous two factors - delay gratification and distraction strategy-showed a positive relationship. 4. The delay gratification was significantly influenced by infants' age, parents' attitude, direct facing strategy, and infants' distraction strategy. However, the delay gratification was insignificantly accounted for by infants' sex.

Result: The participants' emotional intelligence and self-identity proved to have positive relationship. The participants' emotional intelligence also had the positive relationship with their mothers' and fathers' child rearing attitudes. The research shows that the mother's child rearing attitude(${\beta}=.40$, p<.001), the father's child rearing(${\beta}=.10$, p<.001) and self-identity(${\beta}=.23$, p<.001) can determine emotional intelligence to a degree of 43.4% and the mother's attitude was the most influential. Conclusion: It is necessary that emotional intelligence should be enhanced referring to the two variables in nursing intervention. Furthermore, parents whose children are in childhood or adolescence need to be educated about the importance of the parents' child rearing attitudes.
