The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how having a family care program in the workplace for working women with preschool children affects these women's work and family life. This study employs a panel analysis based on data from the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families. The major results are as follows. First, financial support for nursery care is only significantly related to the turnover of married women with preschool children. Second, the negative effects of work on the family are significantly influenced by financial support for nursery care and maternity leave. Third, financial support for nursery care is also significantly related to the positive effects of work on the family. In conclusion, a family-friendly care program including financial support for nursery care and maternity leave in the workplace is an important support system for working mothers in raising their children.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of role stress perceived by employed housewives working in sales departments, and further, to devise coping strategies that can help reduce stress resulting from their multiple roles The sample of this study consisted of married women who were working in sales departments, who have at least one child, and who live in the greater Seoul metropolitan area. A total of 343 out of 450 originally distributed questionnaires were used for the analysis in this study. The findings of the study are: 1 The housewives in sales departments felt stress most severely in their role as a mother. Next were the roles as a wife, housewife, daughter, daughter-in-law, and working woman, in that order. 2. It appeared that age and the motive for employment affected the overall level of role stress among housewives. The two variables (age and the motive for employment) explained about 23% of the variance. The younger they were the higher was the level of role stress. Also, if they were working for an economic reason (to support the family), they tended to be more stressed out. The results of this study could be utilized as baseline data for policy-making, consultation, and development of educational programs for housewives working in sales departments, an area that has hardly been explored.

It meaned women's working activities became into family public activities as to depending open access. 2) Kitchen had a characteristics that was connected to utility room or back balcony, and the number of extra kitchen increased. Also, the size of DK decreased, but utility size little increased. It was showed the characteristic of this space was still for women. 3) An-bang had a little strong characteristics of married coulpe or women's personal space with bathroom or dress room/powder room. 4) In addition, the values of integration and control of living room and DK were highest. It meant these space were centered in unit plans. Next, the An-bang and dress room/powder room were high. Utility room or balcony's were next, and these were women's working space. Therefore, family's public space was most important, and married couple or women's personal and working space were later in planning.

The labor participation rate of women are increasing, especially for married and 30 and over aged women in Korea. Marital role quality might be regarded as an influencing factor on quality of life or health status. The purpose of this study is to investigate influencing factors on quality of marital role for Korean employed women with husband. Data were collected from 323 mothers of students at 3 kindergartens, 2 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 4 high schools in metropolitan area, during 1998.8~1998.12. they were dual-earner couples, and were employed over one year. Response rate is 62.3%. Quality of marital role was measured using Role Quality Scale developed by Park, June & Kim(1999). This instrument is based on Role Rewards and Concerns Scale of Barnett et al.(1993) for quality of marital role. Quality of marital role is made of 19 items and the subfactors are doing households, satisfaction with husband, and relationship with husband The scale has good internal consistency (Cronbach $\alpha$= 0.90). The findings of this study show that age, monthly average household income, husband's occupation, husband's attitude for wife's employment, and the perceived equity for labor division between couples are significant variables for quality of marital role. But education, career years, working hours per week, occupation, monthly average wage, and marital years are not significant. 33.81% of the variance in quality of martal role were accounted for by these variables.

This study investigates the balance between work and family, and the happiness of married working women who have preschool-aged children. Data were collected from 321 questionnaires that consisted of three parts: 1) basic demographic variables, 2) family-life variables, and 3) working-life variables. SPSS 21.0 was used for the statistical analysis. The variables that were identified to have a statistically significant impact on the balance between work and family were income, age of first child, time spent on housework and childcare on weekdays, time spent on housework on weekends, family-friendly service in the workplace and flexibility of work schedule. 2) The variables that were identified to have a statistically significant impact on happiness were age, income, time spent on housework on weekends, satisfaction with spouse's participation in housework and childcare, average working time, family-fiendly service in the workplace, flexibility of work schedule, and balance between work and family. The majority of the variables that influence balance between work and family, and happiness related to aspects of work, such as family-fiendly service, flexibility of work schedules, and average working time. The results also found that the load of housework and childcare on weekends is a heavy burden for working women. Further research needs to focus on developing the extending index of happiness including the measure of balance between work and life. In addition, further studies with more varied groups need to be conducted.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine prevalence and related factors of musculoskeletal symptoms in electronics assembly line workers. Method: A questionnaire survey was performed on 350 workers in In-chon city. The questionnaire consisted of questions on the general characteristics, work duration, working hours, hobby activity hours, housekeeping activity hours and standardized descriptions of NOISH on musculoskeletal symptoms. Result: Complaint rates of musculoskeletal symptoms by anatomical site were as follows: shoulder, 67% : neck, 40.4% : waist, 28.7% : wrist and hand, 27.1% : foot and leg, 14.4% : arm and elbow, 11.2%. Significantly higher prevalence of shoulder musculoskeletal symptom was found women than men, married than unmarried, less than 1hours housekeeping activity than over 1hours housekeeping activity. Multiple logistic regression analysis identified gender, marital status and housekeeping activity as the main affecting factors for shoulder musculoskeletal symptoms. The purpose of this article is to empirically testify three hypotheses on the relation between married women's employment and the allocation of unpaid domestic work within households - i.e., adaptive partnership (AP), dual burden (DB) and lagged adaptation (LA) models. The AP hypothesis assumes that, when wives are employed, husbands spend more time doing housework in order to compensate for their wives' increased responsibility. The DB model, by contrast, indicates that, even if married women are employed, their burden on domestic work does not decrease. In this case, therefore, the dual burden of married women can be expected. Between these two opposite views, the third, alternative hypothesis has been suggested recently. The LA model argues that the behaviours of households are adaptive to the changing environments but over a period of many years and even across generations. The article has analysed the total work time as well as unpaid domestic work time to testify these three hypotheses, utilising 1999 Time Use Survey data of the National Statistical Office. The research results can be summarised as follows. First, married working women worked 100 minutes more than their male spouses. Second, the average domestic work time of married men, 23-25 minutes per day, was no more than 5-10% of that of women. Third, the effects of age and women's employment were not statistically significant in multiple regression models, which means that the DB hypothesis explains the situation of married working women in Korea. Based on these findings, the article suggested the expansion of the public social service system to mitigate the dual burden of married working women, the introduction of compensatory credit for caring work, and the directions of further empirical research using the time use survey data.
