  • There is a need for explosion experiments for explosion-related research. However, there are many restrictions in performing an actual experiment. Therefore, in this paper, an alternative method of overcoming the constraints of an explosion experiment has been conducted using a passenger behavior analysis program called MADYMO to assess and analyze the human body injury due to explosion load. To increase the reliability of the analysis, a drop test has been conducted with the analysis. We provide a new framework for performing the analysis. In future, we will further develop our research with the goal of reducing the opportunity cost for the study of the human body injury.

  • CHARGE syndrome has been estimated to occur in 1:10,000 births worldwide and shows various clinical manifestations. It is a genetic disorder characterized by a specific and a recognizable pattern of anomalies. The major clinical features are ocular coloboma, heart malformations, atresia of the choanae, growth retardation, genital hypoplasia, and ear abnormalities. The chromodomain helicase DNA-binding protein 7 (CHD7) gene, located on chromosome 8q12.1, causes CHARGE syndrome. The CHD7 protein is an adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent chromatin remodeling protein. A total of 67% of patients clinically diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome have CHD7 mutations. Five hundred twenty-eight pathogenic and unique CHD7 alterations have been identified so far. We describe a patient with a CHARGE syndrome diagnosis who carried a novel de novo mutation, a c.3896T>C (p. leu1299Pro) missense mutation, in the CHD7 gene. This finding will provide more information for genetic counseling and expand our understanding of the pathogenesis and development of CHARGE syndrome.

  • Recently emission regulation on diesel vehicles is getting stringent and research on aftertreatment technology such as DPF and DOC has been carried out actively. Even though PM(Particulate matters) reduction efficiency in DOC is relatively low but the structure is simpler and very effective in the reduction of gas materials and unregulated materials. Therefore it has been applied to smaller diesel vehicles. The aims of this research is to investigate the emission reduction characteristics of DOC; DOC performance of regulated and unregulated material emission reduction. It results a Pt based catalyst demonstrated higher emission reduction efficiency than a Pt-V based catalyst in CVS-75 mode, and also the reduction efficiency of unidentified material was excellent.

  • Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS) a common childhood disorders characterized by nonbilious projectile vomiting, an olive shaped mass in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen and visible gastric peristaltic wave in the upper abdomen. Its etiology and pathogenesis are not clear but abnormal nerve distribution of the pylorus has been $postulated^{2-6}$. We performed immunocytochemical staning to the pyloric muscle from 10 IHPS and 3 controls patients, utilizing specific monoclonal antibody to NCAM(neural cell adhesion molecule). In IHPS patients, the number of NCAM protein immunoreactive nerve fibers were less than that in normal subjects. Auerbach myenteric plexuse was well developed and interbundle nerve plexuse was present but nerve fibers supplying individual muscle cells in smooth muscle bundles were poorly developed. These results indicate reduction of innervation in smooth muscles in IHPS patients that possibly contributes to the pathogenesis of IHPS.

  • Arsenic trioxide is one of the 'tooth pulp devitalizing agents' used through the dental history when anaesthesia was not available. But owing to its capacity to kill cells in surrounding tissues, the use of arsenic trioxide in vital pulpotomy has been reduced. Arsenic trioxide can cause necrosis of gingiva, bone which can cause osteomyelitis of the jaws. But some dentists still continue to use arsenic trioxide in their endodontic practices. The purpose of this article is to present arsenic trioxide induced osteomyelitis on maxilla and treatment process.

  • In this study, we fabricated a fiber-optic phantom dosimeter by arraying square type of plastic optical fibers in a PMMA phantom for measuring relative depth doses of therapeutic photon beams. To minimize the cross-talk between fiber-optic dosimeters, we selected appropriate septum by measuring leaked scintillating lights according to the various kinds of septa. In addition, we measured percentage depth doses of 6, 15 MV photon beams using a fiber-optic phantom dosimeter.

  • Objective: This study presents a case of a 64-year-old Korean male with left-side hemifacial anhidrosis due to stroke who was treated with traditional Korean medical treatments.Method: The patient was treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and moxibustion around the eyes, and was administered Chungpyesagan-tang and Yuldahanso-tang. We performed a sweat percentage test and compared the results with those of the other side of the face to evaluate sweat dysfunction. Results: Sweat function appeared to improve after the administration of traditional Korean medical treatments. Conclusion: Traditional Korean medical treatments may be effective in treating hemifacial anhidrosis due to stroke.

  • Objective: This study presents a case of a 56-year-old Korean male with right-side hemianopia due to stroke. Homonymous hemianopia represents a visual field defect related to loss of vision in all or part of the left or right visual field in both eyes; treatment options for this condition are limited.Method: The patient was treated with acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine (Yangguksanhwa-tang), and electroacupuncture around the eyes. We executed a confrontation visual field exam (the Donders test) to evaluate any visual field defectsResults: The visual field area showed improvement after the management of traditional Korean medical treatments. Conclusion: Based on this case, traditional Korean medical treatments may be effective in treating hemianopia due to stroke.

  • To examine the cytotoxic effect of glucose oxidase(GO) in cultured mouse cerebral neurons, cytotoxicity was measured by MTT assay after cultured nerve cells were incubated for 3 hours in the media containing 1 ~ 60mU/ml concentrations of GO. In addition, the neuroprotective effect of Ramulus et uncus uncariae(REUU) was determined by MTT assay in these cultrures. Cell viability was remarkably decreased in a dose- and time-dependent manner after cultured mouse cerebral neurons were exposed to 30mU/ml GO for 3 hours. In the neuroprotective effect of REUU on GO-induced toxicity, REUU blocked the GO-mediated neurotoxicity in these cultures. From above the results, it suggests that GO is toxic in cultured mouse cerebral neurons and selective herb extract such as REUU is effective in prevetion of the neurotoxicity induced by GO.
