  • In this paper, we obtain the general solution, the generalized Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability, and the stability by using the alternative fixed point for a cubic functional equation $4f(x+my)+4f(x-my)+m^2f(2x)=8f(x)+4m^2f(x+y)+4m^2f(x-y)$ for a positive integer $m{\geq}2$.

  • Electrochemical reduction of oxygen has been carried out at glassy carbon electrode and carbon ultramicroelectrode, the surface of which is modified with a new Co(Ⅱ)-Schiff base complex, Co(Ⅱ)-3,4-bis(salicylidene diimine)toluene in 1 M KOH solution. The results obtained from cyclic voltammetric and chronoamperometric experiments are consistent with the formation of the reasonably stable superoxide ions as a primary electron transfer reaction product. The exchange rate constant obtained for oxygen reduction is about 0.02 cm/s.

  • This paper studies a joint EOQ and EPQ model in which a stationary demand can be satisfied by recycled products as well as newly purchased products. The model assumes that a fixed quantity of the used products are collected from customers and later recovered for reuse. The recovered products are regarded as perfectly new ones. We also assume that the number of orders for newly purchasing items and the number of recovery setups in a cycle can be mutually independent integers. Under these assumptions, we develop an optimization model obtaining the economic order quantity for newly procured products, the optimal lot size for the recovery process, and the sequence of the orders and the setups, simultaneously. And then a simple solution procedure to find a local optimal control parameter set is proposed. To validate the model and the solution procedure, finally, some computational experiments are presented.

  • A new genetic algorithm for the solution of a multi-tasking problem is presented in this paper. The approach introduces innovative genetic operation that guides the genetic algorithm more directly towards better quality of the population. A wide variety of standard genetic parameters are explored, and results allow the comparison of performance for cases both with and without the new operator. The proposed algorithm improves the convergence speed by reducing the number of generations required to identify a near-optimal solution, significantly reducing the convergence time in each instance.

  • Designing highly survivable interoffice telecommunication networks is considered. The problem is formulated as a minimum-cost network design problem with three node connectivity constraints. These valid and facet-defining inequalities for the convex hull of the solution are presented. A branch and cut algorithm is proposed based on the inequalities to obtain the optimal solution. With the lower bound by the cutting plane algorithm, a delete-ink heuristic is proposed to otain a good upper bound in the branch and bound procedure. The effeciveness of the branch and cut algorithm is demonstrated with computational results for a variety of problem sets : different lower bounds, two types of link costs and large number of links. The cutting plane procedure based on the three inequalities provides excellent lower bounds to the optimal solutions.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the lead-bismuth-sodium ternary system which a basis of the Dittmer method as a part of "the fundamental study of pyrometallurgical debismuthizing of lead". Thermodynamic properties of each liquid Pb-Bi, Pb-Na binaries as well as liquid Pb-Bi-Na ternary solution were measured by e.m.f. of these concentration cells, and those of each component were also determined. Furthermore, iso-activity lines including Pb rich side composition of Pb-Bi-Na ternary solution were determined. The relationship between those thermodynamic characteristics and tendency of intermetallic compound formation was discussed through the above experiments.

  • A method to determine As(V) ions in aqueous solution by chemiluminescence method has been studied using a stopped flow system. The method is based on the increased chemiluminescence intensity with the addition of As(V) ion to a solution of lucigenin and hydrogen peroxide. The effects of KOH concentration, $H_2O_2$ concentration and flow rate of reagents on the chemiluminescence intensity have been investigated. The calibration curve for As(V) was linear over the range from $1.0{\times}l0^{-6}$M to $1.0{\times}l0^{-4}$M, the coefficient of correlation was 0.997 and the detection limit was $3.3{\times}l0^{-7}$M under the optimal experimental conditions.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the optimal condition for granite particle coagulation process by using various chemical coagulation agents. The coagulation of a suspended granite particle was monitored by using various different coagulants, such as $Al_2(SO_4)_3{\cdot}14H_2O,{\;}FeCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O,{\;}SA-solution(KOH{\;}+{\;}Al(OH)_3{\;}+{\;}K_2CO_3{\;}mixture)$ and jade particle. To accomplish this study, analysis of water quality, removing Turbidity and Packing Density were measured with jar-tester. In the results of this experiment, it was found that the removal rate of the granite particle was increased with the decrease of the pH of the sludge. The turbidity(NTU) at the above coagulants was reduced from 95% to 98%. Removed of Turbidity and Packing Density was more efficiency to the SA-solution than others.

  • The chemical composition of differentiating xylem of Populus deltoides M. were investigated and compared with those from sapwood. The cell wall polysaccharides were extracted sequentially from a differentiating xylem and sugar composition was analyzed with G.L.C, H.P.L.C and gel chromatograpy. The pectin substance and hemicellulose are rich in the cell wall of differentiating xylem. The $H_2O$ extract polysaccharides from differentiating xylem were composed with xylose-glucose residues which seem to be xyloglucan and a pectin. The arabinogalactan and the mannan were extracted with $Na_2CO_3$ solution and also the xylan was extracted with KOH solution. Sugar composition of each fractions in gel filteration of purified $H_2O$ polysaccharide suggests that the xyloglucan can be extracted with $H_2O$ from differentiating xylem.

  • BLT nanotubes were synthesized by using simple and convenient method template-wetting process. Porous alumina membranes were prepared by 2 step anodic oxidation as the template. To improve wetting properties and make low surface energy, BLT solution was mixed with polymer. Polymer was removed completely during annealing. After completely etching the template in 30 wt% KOH solution, we demonstrate that BLT nanotubes with a diameter of 200 nm can be fabricated. Grain growth process of BLT nanotubes during baking, and furnace annealing was examined by FE-SEM and XRD.
