A Study on the Measurements of Discharge Parameters in Case of the Switching Impulse Breakdown of a Large Air Spacing (이격거리가 큰 전국의 공기절연파괴 현상시 발생하는 인자측정에 관한 연구)

  • The paper presents the measurement results on the parameters affecting the breakdown mechanism of a large air spacing under switching impulse voltages. Measured parameters are the velocities of leader channels, predischarge currents, electric charges injected into the rod-plane air gap and electric field intensities on the plane. For the 3m air gap under switching impulse voltages, the velocities of leader channel have been measured to be of 1cm/x10S0-6Ts - 5cm/x10S0-6Ts, electric field intensity of 2kv/cm, predischarge current of 1.2-1.6A, the charges injected into the air gap of 11-40x10S0-6TC for 400-887kV impulse voltages.

  • This study evaluated electrical characteristics of the manufactured arcing horn whose rated voltage and nominal discharge current were 18kV and 2.5kA, respectively. In this study, residual voltage and lightning impulse flashover voltage were examined. The arcing horn showed excellent electrical characteristics that residual voltage and lightning impulse flashover voltage were 55kV below and 121kV at 115mm, respectively. Therefore the manufactured arcing Horn is considered that it would show good performance for protecting electrical wires and line post insulators from lightning impulse, if it were applied to real fields.

  • This paper presents the experimental results on impulse breakdown characteristics under a highly non-uniform electric field in $SF_{6}/N_{2}$ gas mixtures according to a change in temperature. Test temperature ranges from $-25^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$. The impulse predischarge breakdown developments are investigated by the measurements of current pulse and discharge luminous events. As a result, the predischarge development mechanisms for both positive and negative polarities are same. When increasing the temperature, breakdown voltage due to lightning impulse voltage is increased in negative polarity. On the other hand, when increasing the temperature, breakdown voltage due to lightning impulse voltage is not changed in positive polarity.

  • The microstructure and electrical characteristics of A ∼ C's ZnO varistors fabricated according to variable sintering condition, which sintering temperature was 1130 $^{\circ}C$ and speeds of pusher were A: 2 mm/min, B: 4 mm/min, C: 6 mm/min, respectively, were investigated. The experimental results obtained from this study were summarized as follows: The sintering density of A ∼C's ZnO varistors sintered at 1130 $^{\circ}C$ were decreased by sintering keep time to shorten, such as A: 9hour, B: 4.5hour and C: 3hour. A's ZnO varistor exhibited good densification nearly 98 % of theory density. In the microstructure, A∼C's ZnO varistors fabricated variable sintering condition was consisted of ZnO grain(ZnO), spinel phase(Z $n_{2.33}$S $b_{0.67}$ $O_4$), Bi-rich phasc(B $i_2$ $O_3$), wholly.   • This paper presents a technical study for the first short stroke lightning current generator using a crowbar device. The so-called crowbar-technology is most common to make 10/350[${\mu}s$] impulse currents with high amplitude, and the lightning current generator with crowbar device has an economic advantage than the nominal RLC current generator. But both the operating efficiency and the operating reliability of crowbar spark gap are very important to design the current generator. So, the peaking circuit which consists of small capacitors and a spark gap is applied. And the multi-step coil for controlling the circuit constant at the different test conditions is used. The presented test facility is designed to perform impulse tests with amplitudes up to 50[kA] of 10/350[${\mu}s$].

  • This paper presents Pspice modeling methods for spark gaps and ZnO varistors and describes the application for the two-stage surge suppression circuit which was composed of the nonlinear components. The simulation modelings of nonlinear components were conducted on the basis of the voltage and current curves measured by the impulse current with the time-to-crest of $1~50 \mus$ and the impulse voltage with the rate of the time-to-crest of 10, 100 and 1000 V/\mus$. The firing voltages of the spark gap increased with increasing the rate of the time-to-crest of impulse voltage and the measured data were in good agreement with the simulated data. The I-V curves of the ZnO varistor were measured by applying the impulse currents of which time-to-crests range from 1 to $50 \mus$ and peak amplitudes from 10 A to 2 kA. The simulation modeling was based on the I-V curves replotted by taking away the inductive effects of the test circuit and leads. The meximum difference between the measured and calculated data was of the order of 3%. Also the two-stage surge suppression circuit made of the spark gap and the ZnO varistor was investigated with the impulse voltage of $10/1000\mus$$mutextrm{s}$ wave shape. The overall agreement between the theoretical and experimental results seems to be acceptable. As a consequence, it was known that the proposed simulation techniques could effectively be used to design the surge suppression circuits combined with nonlinear components.

  • The microstructure, electrical, and degradation characteristics against impulse current of ZPCCL-based varistors were investigated with various sintering temperature in the range of $1240\sim1300^{\circ}C$. The densification of varistors was improved, but the nonlinearity was deteriorated with increase of sintering temperature. The varistors sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ and $1260^{\circ}C$ exhibited high stability against surge stress. On the whole, the variation of characteristics of varistor for surge stress was increased in order of varistor voltage$\rightarrow$nonlinear exponent$\rightarrow$dissipation factor$\rightarrow$leakage current.

  • To realize the tap coefficient of a finite impulse response(FIR) filter or the twiddle factor of a fast Fourier transform(FFT) using a current-mode analog circuit, a high accurate current-attenuator circuit is needed This paper introduces an accuracy enhancement technique in the current-mode signal processing. First of all, the DC of set-current error in a conventional current-attenuator using a gate-ratioed orient mirror circuit is analyzed and then, the current-attenuator circuit with a negligibly small DC offset-current error is introduced. The circuit consists of N-output current mirrors connected in parallel with me another. The output current of the circuit is attenuated to 1/N of the input current. On the basis of the Kirchhoff current law, the current scale ratio is determined simply by the number of the current mirrors in the N-current mirrors connected in parallel. In the proposed current-attenuator circuit the scale accuracy is limited by the ac gain error of the current mirror. Considering that a current mirror has a negligibly small ac gain error, the attainable maximum scale accuracy is theoretically -80[dB] to the input current.

  • This study introduces the control of duration time of impulse noises emitted from a high voltage COS fuse of a transformer. When a high voltage COS fuse becomes a short circuit by the over current, the peak sound pressure level over 150 dB(A) is generated at the distance of 2m from a COS Fuse. For the purpose of the reduction of impulse noise, in this study, the reactive type silencer has been utilized. And also electrical interrupting test was experimented. From the experimental results, the reactive type silencer has been shown to have the noise reduction of about 13 dB(A). It has been found that the electrical interception performance of the COS fuse was related to the control of the duration time of impulse noise.

  • A capacitor discharge impulse magnetizer using semiconductor switching device is used to produce a high current impulse of short duration in a magnetizing fixture for magnets of the various shapes. The price of today's magnetizer is relatively expensive. This paper described a method for cost estimation of capacitor discharge impulse magnetizer using semiconductor switching device and the economical efficiency analysis. We used a cost structure consisted of five major subsystems. Especially, we estimated the potential for a cost reductions in impulse magnetizer as a function of time using the learning curve, and the potentials of cost by depreciation. The reliable results were obtained by using iron-core fixture coupled to a middle-voltage magnetizer.
