  • This study investigates what decisions have an impact on bank performance. A panel regression analysis was conducted using data from the financial statements of banks located in the United States from 2013 to 2022, and the effects of explanatory variables were examined through hierarchical panel regression analysis divided into financial decision-making and management decision-making. In addition, by analyzing performance separately from the creditor and shareholder perspectives (hereinafter referred to as overall) and from the shareholder perspective alone, it suggests which elements should be utilized and how to improve performance from each perspective. When a panel regression analysis was performed using only liquidity and stability, dependency on deposits and the interest coverage ratio had a statistically significant impact from the perspective of overall performance, and the debt ratio also had a statistically significant impact from the perspective of shareholder performance. When adding non-technical factors, only the labor cost ratio among non-technical factors was found to be statistically significant from the overall performance perspective, and although the non-technical factors were not statistically significant from the shareholder performance perspective, the cash ratio was found to have a statistically significant impact. Lastly, when adding technical innovation elements, the intangible asset ratio was not statistically significant from the overall performance perspective, but was significant from the shareholder performance perspective. The significance and implications of this study are that there are differences in factors that can affect the performance of overall or shareholder and that various decision-making factors can affect a bank's performance.

  • Recent rapid advancements in voice generation technology have enabled the natural synthesis of voices using text alone. However, this progress has led to an increase in malicious activities, such as voice phishing (voishing), where generated voices are exploited for criminal purposes. Numerous models have been developed to detect the presence of synthesized voices, typically by extracting features from the voice and using these features to determine the likelihood of voice generation. This paper proposes a new model for extracting voice features to address misuse cases arising from generated voices. It utilizes a deep learning-based audio codec model and the pre-trained natural language processing model BERT to extract novel voice features. To assess the suitability of the proposed voice feature extraction model for voice detection, four generated voice detection models were created using the extracted features, and performance evaluations were conducted. For performance comparison, three voice detection models based on Deepfeature proposed in previous studies were evaluated against other models in terms of accuracy and EER. The model proposed in this paper achieved an accuracy of 88.08%and a low EER of 11.79%, outperforming the existing models. These results confirm that the voice feature extraction method introduced in this paper can be an effective tool for distinguishing between generated and real voices.

  • Objective: To evaluate the radiological tumor response patterns and compare the response assessments based on immune-based therapeutics Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (iRECIST) and RECIST 1.1 in metastatic clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (mccRCC) patients treated with programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) inhibitors. Materials and Methods: All mccRCC patients treated with PD-1 inhibitors at Henan Cancer Hospital, China, between January 2018 and April 2019, were retrospectively studied. A total of 30 mccRCC patients (20 males and 10 females; mean age, 55.6 years; age range, 37-79 years) were analyzed. The target lesions were quantified on consecutive CT scans during therapy using iRECIST and RECIST 1.1. The tumor growth rate was calculated before and after therapy initiation. The response patterns were analyzed, and the differences in tumor response assessments of the two criteria were compared. The intra- and inter-observer variabilities of iRECIST and RECIST 1.1 were also analyzed. Results: The objective response rate throughout therapy was 50% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 32.1-67.9) based on iRECIST and 30% (95% CI: 13.6-46.4) based on RECIST 1.1. The time-to-progression (TTP) based on iRECIST was longer than that based on RECIST 1.1 (median TTP: not reached vs. 170 days, p = 0.04). iRECIST and RECIST 1.1 were discordant in 8 cases, which were evaluated as immune-unconfirmed PD based on iRECIST and PD based on RECIST 1.1. Six patients (20%, 6/30) had pseudoprogression based on iRECIST, of which four demonstrated early pseudoprogression and two had delayed pseudoprogression. Significant differences in the tumor response assessments based on the two criteria were observed (p < 0.001). No patients demonstrated hyperprogression during the study period. Conclusion: Our study confirmed that the iRECIST criteria are more capable of capturing immune-related atypical responses during immunotherapy, whereas conventional RECIST 1.1 may underestimate the benefit of PD-1 inhibitors. Pseudoprogression is not rare in mccRCC patients during PD-1 inhibitor therapy, and it may last for more than the recommended maximum of 8 weeks, indicating a limitation of the current strategy for immune response monitoring.

  • This study aimed to assess whether plant-based meat substitutes can effectively replace animal meat products in terms of amino acid composition and zinc bioavailability. The evaluation was conducted in response to the growing demand for meat substitutes, driven by the increasing vegan population and the expansion of vegan culture. For this purpose, a chicken product and two plant-based meat substitutes in tender form were selected. The amino acid content and composition were measured using HPLC, while the levels of trace elements like zinc and calcium were determined through ICP-AES. Additionally, the presence of phytic acid, which inhibits zinc bioavailability, was extracted and quantified using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The results were analyzed in the context of daily product consumption. The findings revealed that certain essential amino acids, such as valine and lysine, were found to be deficient in plant-based meat substitutes compared to animal meat products. It was challenging to meet the recommended daily intake of these amino acids solely through the use of meat substitutes. Regarding zinc bioavailability, the inhibitory effect of calcium on zinc bioavailability was expected to be minimal. The zinc bioavailability of the meat substitutes varied significantly depending on the zinc and phytic acid content of the ingredients. Therefore, ingredients of plant-based meat substitutes should be carefully modulated to reach appropriate zinc bioavailability by selecting and processing plant materials with high zinc and low phytic acid content.

  • This study attempts to identify the relationship between students' images of science and science learning, and their career choices. A total of 163 students (seventh graders) from three different middle schools participated in this study. Students' images of science and science learning were investigated using the Draw-A-Scientist Test (DAST) and the Draw-A-Science-Learner Test (DASLT), respectively. Then, students' drawings were analyzed using the Draw-A-Scientist Test Checklist (DAST-C) and the Draw-A-Science-Learner Test Checklist (DASLT-C). The relationship between each element composing the students' images and their career choices were analyzed. Among several elements constituting the students' image of science, 'expression,' 'lab coat,' 'oddity,' 'knowledge symbol,' 'technology symbol,' 'co-work,' 'danger,' and 'STS' showed significant differences between students who chose a science-related career and students who did not. It was also revealed that the following elements - 'expression,' 'learning type,' 'inquiry symbol,' and 'learning place' - were more significantly associated with a science-related career choice compared to other elements consisting of an image of science learning.

  • Three embankments are located in the Chunggye Bay, each named as Changpo, Bokkil and Kuil and environmental changes are expected due to freshwater input. To investigate this phenomenon, three sample sites in front of each embankment gate were selected in Nov. 2006(autumn), Feb. 2007(winter), May. 2007(spring) and Aug. 2007(summer). At every point of embankment spot, large cells(micro-size, >$20\;{\mu}m$) of phytoplankton were turned out to be a major cause of algal bloom in Feb. 2007 and nano-size($2-20\;{\mu}m$) phytoplankton became dominant during rainy season. In rainy season, each point of embankment showed low salinity and transparency with higher ammonium and phosphorus concentrations than dry season. However, the number of phytoplankton has decreased and it is expected that freshwater influx has more influence on high turbidity and radical decrease of salinity than nutrient. According to the results of this study, therefore, nutrient could have more influence on growth of phytoplankton in dry season, but high turbidity and radical changes of salinity have more influence in rainy season.

  • Purpose: This study aims to verify structural stability by manufacturing a 40m full-scale specimen composed of a segmental U-shaped PSC girder with integrated tensioning systems and a concrete slab, proceeding dynamic behavior tests, and compare the results of the tests with the results of numerical analysis. Method: Dynamic behavior tests were conducted on a full-scale, undamaged specimen using an impact hammer, and the natural frequency and damping ratio were measured and compared with numerical analysis techniques and the general damping ratio of the facilities. Result: The natural frequency of the numerical analysis model consisting of a girder and slab composite section was calculated to be 2.561Hz, the natural frequency of the full-scale specimen was measured to be 2.670Hz, and the damping ratio was calculated to be 0.42~0.68%. Conclusion: The natural frequency of the full-scale specimen was found to be 4.3% larger than that of the numerical analysis model. Since the masses of the full-scale specimen and the numerical analysis model are the same as 99.97%, it can be derived that the stiffness of the full-scale specimen has secured structural safety and stability. As a result, the dynamic behavior stability of the specimen was verified. The measured damping ratio of 0.42~0.68% was found to be a stable dynamic behavior compared to the PSC structures damping ratio of 0.5~1.0% in the elastic region.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the significance of various figures in The Canonical Scripture and their contents. The Canonical Scripture (jeon-gyeong 典經) is a record of the beliefs and deeds of Kang Jeungsan, composed through the memories of the followers of Kang Jeungsan who followed the words of The Canonical Scripture. In other words, The Canonical Scripture is understood as the scripture of Daesoon Jinrihoe that contains the religious deeds and teachings of Kang Jeungsan. It is divided into seven parts and 17 chapters. Those seven parts, some of which contain more than one chapter, are as follows: Acts, Reordering Works, Progress of the Order, Dharma, Authority and Foreknowledge, Saving Lives, and Prophetic Elucidations. In particular, The Canonical Scripture records the deeds of historical figures from both China and Korea, and this prominently includes the life history of Kang Jeungsan, and this is an especially pronounced feature of the sections Acts, Progress of the Order, and Prophetic Elucidations. In addition, each chapter describes the teachings and faith-inspiring acts of Kang Jeungsan and presents the gist of the Daesoon Thought while referring to the lives and actions of various historical figures. In this paper, introductions to the figures that appear in each section are provided to help readers better understand the contents of The Canonical Scripture. Therefore, this study focuses on the major figures introduced in The Canonical Scripture in connection with the religious values of Daesoon Thought. Through this, a contribution is made to the academic development of Daesoon Thought by specifically exploring and examining the contents of the figures who appear in The Canonical Scripture. This is a surprisingly underdeveloped area of study in Daesoon Thought.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the correlation between oral frailty and health-related quality of life (HINT-8) among older adults in Korea. Methods: The data of 1,318 individuals aged ≥65 years who participated in the eighth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019) were analyzed using complex sample statistical analysis. Results: Chewing discomfort was found to decrease the HINT-8 scores by 1.246, 1.324, and 1.089 times in the physical, social, and mental domains, respectively. Speech discomfort was found to decrease the HINT-8 scores by 1.275, 1.449, and 1.175 times in the physical, social, and mental domains, respectively. The HINT-8 scores of participants with ≤19 natural teeth were lower in the physical and social domains. Similarly, the HINT-8 scores of participants with brushing frequency of ≤2 were lower in the positive health domain. Non-use of oral hygiene products led to a reduction in the HINT-8 score in the social health domain. Conclusions: Oral frailty in older adults reduces the health-related quality of life. Thus, it is necessary to formulate policies to manage oral frailty in this population and develop specialized programs for the management of oral frailty.

  • Due to the structural characteristic of a double roller, the double roller can have various deformation behaviors depending on a gap block design, even if dimensions and loading conditions for the double roller are the same. Based on this feature, we propose a strategy for designing the gap block of the carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) double roller to minimize defects (e.g., sagging and wrinkling), which can be raised during the product conveying process, with the pursue of the lightweight design. In the suggested strategy, analysis cases are first selected by considering main design parameters and engineering tolerances of the gap block, and then deformation behaviors of these selected cases are extracted using the finite element method (FEM). Here, to obtain the optimal gap block parameters that satisfy the purpose of this study, deformation deviations in the contact area are calculated and compared using the extracted deformation behaviors. Note that the contact area in this work is located between the product and the roller. As a result, through the design method of the gap block proposed in this work, it is possible to construct the CFRP double roller that can significantly decrease the defects without changing the overall sizes of the roller. A detailed method is suggested herein, and the results are evaluated in a numerical way.
