Calculated feature vectors are used of date for the facial recognition through learning of neural network It demonstrate improvement in both the recognition rate and speed by proposed algorithm through simulation.

  • Simulation of the target-scattered echo requires the understanding of scattering mechanism at the highlight points. In this paper, the basic assumption of Highlight Model is reviewed through the analyzed data obtained in the acoustic water tank experiment. The analysis shows that the scattering mechanism involves pulse elongation and frequency shift as elements of target-scattered echo, and that the internal structures affect the temporal response of the target-scattered echo significantly. The band-limited impulse response or Green's function due to the diffraction from highlight points of internal structures is not mere delta function, but acts like a filter, which causes frequency shift and is elongated in time.

  • This study was carried out to investigate a radial distribution of moisture contents(MCs) within a log cross section(LC) during oven-drying of circumferential slices cut from some of domestic hardwoods LCs. For zelkova, the slices from sapwood and from transition part already reached to below hygroscopic range at 30% in average MC, whereas the innermost slice represented about 40% MC. A moisture gradient between the innermost slice and the adjacent slice from a cherry LC became severer with drying times. For castor aralia, the green MC for heartwood slices was approximately 23% higher than that for sapwood slices, and the similar moisture gradient still lasted until average 15% MC during oven-drying. For Chinese mahogany, the MCs of the mixed slices and the innermost slice were lower than those of the slices cut from the other parts during all over drying stage.

  • Surface failures of slopes in weathered soil are caused by infiltration due to prolonged rainfall. These failures are mainly triggered by the deepening of the wetting band accompanied by a decrease in suction induced by the infiltrating water. This paper reports trends of rainfall-induced wetting band depth in two types of weathered soils that are commonly found in Korea. Both theoretical and numerical analyses are presented based on the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) obtained using filter paper as well as tensiometer tests. It is found that the magnitude of wetting front suction plays a key role in the stability of slopes in weathered soils. Theoretical analysis based on modified Green and Ampt model tends to underestimate the wetting band depth for typical Korean weathered soils. It was also deduced that for Korean weathered soils, the factor of safety drops rapidly once the wetting band depth of 1.2 m is reached.

  • In analysis of underground structures, the effects of artificial boundary conditions are considered as one of the major reasons for differences from experimental results. These phenomena can be overcome by using the boundary elements which satisfy the multi-layered half space conditions. The fundamental solutions of multi-layered half-space for boundary element method is formulated satisfying the transmission and reflection of waves at each layer interface and radiation conditions at bottom layer. The governing equations can be obtained from the displacements at each layer which are expressed in terms of harmonic functions. All types of waves can be included using the complete response from semi-infinite integrals with respect to horizontal wavenumbers using expansion of Fourier series and Hankel transformation. Two dimensional Green's functions are derived from cylindrical Navier equations and potentials performing infinite integration in y-direction. In this case, it is effective to transform into two dimensional problem using semi-analytical integration and sinusoidal Bessel function. Some verifications are given to show the accuracy and efficiency of the developed method, and numerical examples to demonstrate the dynamic behavior of underground with various properties.

  • In this study, a numerically efficient method for the analysis of microstrip structures is considered in conjunction with the use of closed-form spatial Green's functions. As is well-known, the use of the closed-form Green's functions can reduce the evaluation time of impedance matrix elements. However the problematic aspect that in general the evaluation results of diagonal elements of the matrix converge slowly, has been observed. The main cause of the slow convergence has been due to the terms of closed-form Green's functions with small exponent. In other to resolve the problematic aspect, a method of numerical integration based on the change of variable is considered in evaluating matrix elements. The present method is applied for the analysis of a coaxial-fed microstrip antenna. When the present results are compared with the previous results in order to check the validity of the present method, fairly good agreements between them are observed.

  • We have developed an algorithm based on the method of integral equations to simulate the magnetotelluric (MT) responses of three-dimensional (3-D) bodies in a layered half-space. The inhomogeneities are divided into a number of cells and are replaced by an equivalent current distribution which is approximated by pulse basis functions. A matrix equation is constructed using the electric Green's tensor function appropriate to a layered earth, and is solved for the vector current in each cell. Subsequently, scattered fields are found by integrating electric and magnetic Green's tensor functions over the scattering current About a 3-D conductive body near the earth's surface, interpretation using 2-D transverse electric modeling schemes can imply highly erratic low resistivities at depth. This is why these routines do not account for the effect of boundary charges. However, centrally located profiles across elongate 3-D prisms may be modeled accurately with a 2-D transverse magnetic algorithm, which implicitly includes boundary charges in its formulation. Multifrequency calculations show that apparent resistivity and impedance phase are really two complementary parameters. Hence, they should be treated simultaneously in broadband MT interpretation.

  • Cross correlation of seismic-background motions (Campillo and Paul, 2003; Shapiro et al., 2005) is applied to observations from the Korean Meteorological Administration seismic network to estimate the short-period Rayleigh and Love wave dispersion characteristics of the region. Standard processing procedures are applied to the cross correlation, except that signal whitening is used in place of one-bit sampling to equalize power in signals from different times. Multiple-filter analysis is used to extract the group velocities from the estimated Green's functions, which are then used to image the spatially varying dispersion at periods between 0.5 and 20 sec. The tomographic inversion technique used inverts all periods simultaneously to provide a smooth dispersion curve as a function of period in addition to the usual smooth spatial image for a given period. The Gyeongsang Basin in the southeastern part of the peninsula is clearly resolved with lower group velocities.

  • When analyzing the scatting problem of multi-layered planar structures using closed-form Green's function, one of the main difficulties is that the numerical integrations for the evaluation of diagonal matrix elements converge slowly and are not so stable. Accordingly, even when the integration fur the singularity of type $e^{-jkr}/{\gamma}$, corresponding to the source dipole itself, is performed using such a method, this difficulty persists in the integration corresponding to the finite number of complex images. In order to resolve this difficulty, a new technique based upon the Gaussian quadrature in polar coordinates for the evaluation of the two-dimensional generalized exponential integral is presented. Stability of the algorithm and convergence is discussed. Performance is demonstrated for the example of a microstrip patch antenna.

  • Nowadays the traffic conditions have been getting worse due to continuous increase in the number of vehicles. So it has become more important to manage traffic signal lights efficiently. Recently fuzzy logic is introduced to control the cycle time of traffic lights adaptively. Conventional fuzzy logic controller adjusts the extension time of current green phase by using the fuzzy input variables such as the number of entering vehicles at the green light and the number of waiting vehicle during the red light. However this scheme is inadequate for an intersection with variable traffic densities. In this paper, a new FLC with asymmetric membership functions that reflects more exactly traffic flows than other FLCs with symmetric ones regardless of few control rules is propsed. The effectiveness of the proposed method was shown through simulation of a single intersection. The experimental results yielded the superior performance of the proposed FLC in terms of the average delay time, the number of passed vehicles, and the degree of saturation.
