  • The closed-form expressions of the vector gravity and gravity gradient tensor due to a circular disk are derived. The gravity potential due to a circular disk with a constant density is defined for a cylindrical system. Then, the vector gravity is derived by differentiating the gravity potential with respect to cylindrical coordinates. The radial component of the vector gravity in the cylindrical system is converted into horizontal gravity components in the Cartesian system. Finally, the gravity gradient tensor due to a circular disk is obtained by differentiating the vector gravity with respect to the Cartesian coordinates.

  • The maximum specific gravity of asphaltic concrete can be calculated based on the effective specific gravity of aggregates and the specific gravity of asphalt cement. The maximum specific gravity is sometimes obtained based on the apparent specific gravity of aggregates and specific gravity of asphalt concrete. However, the apparent specific gravity is in general greater than the effective specific gravity for most aggregates. This study showed, by comparing the results obtained based on two specific gravities, that application of the apparent specific gravity instead of the effective specific gravity resulted in discrepancies in the calculated values of effective asphalt content, air void and maximum density.

  • For the establishing gravity base station and the improving the precision of exiting gravity network, and getting the gravity acceleration value in Korea, the absolute gravity measurements have been conducted at Daejeon(KRISS) from October 8 to November 8, 1996 with the NIM-II Absolute gravimeter and Suwon(NGI) from December 10 to December 16, 1999 with the FG5 Absolute gravity meter. The each absolute gravity value measured at KRISS and at NGI is 979,829.609${\pm}$0.006 mGal from 353 dropes and 979,918.775${\pm}$0.0001 mGal from a total 14,346 dropes. I think that we need the many base Absolute gravity station for the activation of the Earth science.

  • The closed-form expressions of gravity, magnetic, gravity gradient tensor, and magnetic gradient tensor due to a rectangular prism are derived. The vertical gravity is derived via triple integration of a rectangular prism in Cartesian coordinates, and the two horizontal components of vector gravity are then derived via cycle permutation of the axis variables of vertical gravity through the axial symmetry of the rectangular prism. The gravity gradient tensor is obtained by differentiating the vector gravity with respect to each coordinate. Using Poisson's relation, a vector magnetic field with constant magnetic direction can be obtained from the gravity gradient tensor. Finally, the magnetic gradient tensor is derived by differentiating the vector magnetic with respect to appropriate coordinates.

  • This study is focused on the main concepts of gravity and geomagnetics which are introduced in the earth science textbooks of high school in 7th curriculum. This study examines the validity and accuracy of the Earth Science textbooks and shows some effective teaching plans by using the latest materials. This study also illustrates the main concepts of gravity and geomagnetics through presenting some effective and practical teaching-learning methods. The results of the study were as follows: First of all, a number of main concepts of six textbooks of high school were selected; the field of gravity, the direction and dimension of gravity, the measurement of gravity, the main reason of gravity anomaly and geoid, earth terrestrial magnetic field, secular variation of goemagnetics. Secondly, most Earth Science textbooks of high school explains the main concepts of the gravity and geomagnetics in similar ways. Those textbooks, however, don't put an emphasis on the essential contents which has been regarded as important thing in terms of the current educational course of study. The high school textbooks also use the material which is too old-fashioned and has some problems of accuracy and validity. Especially, many main concepts of the textbooks and scientific data(such as the direction of gravity, the measurement of gravity, the main reason of gravity anomaly, the use of geoid, secular variation) are different with those of South Korea, In addition, some materials(graphs and diagrams) are very old ones and they don't have authentic information. Finally, Among the various main concepts, some important ideas (the direction of the gravity and the method of measuring gravity, the measurement and use of gravity anomaly, the definition of geoid and secular variation of geomagnetics) should be corrected by showing the latest and authentic materials.

  • The lunar gravity field is an important source to understand the lunar interior structure, dichotomy and magma ocean of the moon, furthermore it can be used to study the origin and evolution history of the moon. In this paper, we firstly investigated the history of lunar exploration were performed for determining the lunar gravity field, in addition to investigating the procedure of progress related with the lunar gravity field model and gravity observations techniques. After, we determined practically the gravity anomalies of the moon using the new lunar gravity model, SGM90d (SELENE Gravity Model), which were developed by processing the tracking data from SELENE, the japanese lunar mission. Finally, we compared the lunar gravity anomalies from SGM90d model to the those from existing lunar gravity model (LP165P). As results from the comparison, we can make a sense that 4-way Doppler observations of SELENE is very effective to measure the gravity field on the farside of the moon. The precise lunar gravity field model including the farside of the moon which can be more helpful to understand the dichotomy of moon and to establish the detailed distribution of lunar gravity field, such as a mascon.

  • In this paper, a design and analysis of a gravity compensator which is a new device to reduce the joint torque of robots caused due to gravity is presented. Joints of all robots are loaded by large torques due to gravity. By applying the gravity compensator to the robot joints, the load torques applied to the robot joints are reduced by the repulsive force of the gravity compensator such that the size of the joint actuation motor can be reduced. In this paper, the structure and force relation of the gravity compensator are analyzed. The superior performance of the proposed gravity compensator is verified through experiments which measure the joint motor current caused by the load applied to the robot link.

  • Closed-form expressions of vector gravity and gravity gradient tensor based on a line segment are derived. If a cylindrical object with axial symmetry is observed from a distance, it is possible to approximate it as a line segment; therefore, it is necessary to compute the gravity and the gravity gradient tensor due to a line source by using closed-form expressions. The gravitational potential for a line segment is defined as a one-dimensional integral, and this integral is differentiated with respect to the Cartesian coordinate system to derive the vector gravity. The expressions of the gravity gradient tensor are derived by differentiating the vector gravity once more in the same coordinate system.

  • This paper developed advanced gravity model for higher estimation accuracy, that deals with residuals. Previously studied paper using gravity model's residual, residual calculated that observed O-D value minus derived O-D value from gravity model, and this residual added to the target year's estimated value from gravity model. In this paper, residuals calculated on gravity model parameter estimation process, and this residual is revealed the same value that observed O-D value devided by derived O-D value from gravity model. And case study resulted that developed new gravity model that applied accordance rate of observed O-D value and derived O-D value from gravity model has higher estimation accuracy than other gravity models as basic gravity model and residual plused gravity model.

  • The amount of salt to make seed sorting solution of the specific gravity of 1.13 was reconsidered and determined as 3.8 kg salt in 18 L water, which is lower amount than currently used. Five rice cultivars were examined. Percent germination and seedling emergence were not similar. Seedling emergence rate of Japonica varieties, Nampyungbyeo and Daerypbyeo-1 were 87% and 95% under specific gravity of 1.13, respectively. Seedling emergence rate of Tongil type variety, Dasanbyeo was as high as 67% in specific gravity of 1.06. Seedling emergence rate of waxy rice, Hwasunchalbyeo and Aranghangchalbyeo were examined. Seedling emergence rate was 94% in both cultivars in specific gravity of 1.04. Seedling emergence rate was same in specific gravity of 1.08 which is generally used for selecting seed currently. Early growth (plant height, leaf number, and dry weight) were not significantly different by specific gravity within species. In all cultivars except waxy rice, highest seedling emergence rate was observed in specific gravity of 1.13 which is currently used for selection and decreased as specific gravity is lowed. However, considering total amount of seeds in each group of specific gravity, amount of seed in lower specific gravity group is relatively small and total seedling emergence rate within variety dose not show big difference. However, if seeds with low speicific gravity are produced due to the bad grain filling condition and consequently total seed content of low specific gravity increases, results will be differnt. Reduction in total growth and yield could occur. It will be important to comply with the seed sorting criterion of 1.13 for Japonica, 1.06 for Tongil, and 1.04 for waxy rice variety to ensure the maximum rice growth and yield.
