  • Genetic relationship analysis by PCR reactions with 25 primers could produce relevant classifications of the 21 P. pulmonarius (Fr) Quel. isolates collected from 2005. They were classified by two groups with similarity coefficient 0.37. All of the P. pulmonarius cultivars belonged to group 2. New cultivar 'Hwasan' presented high similarity coefficient to parental strains, and that of 'Hosan' and 'Kangsan' cultivars was very high owing to shared crossing parents, and that of two strains from China was high, as well.

  • Serious social problems related to the elderly have appeared in the Gangwon Province because the population in this area is rapidly aging. Gangwon has the highest suicide rate and the highest percentage of single households. In the process of preparing for the super-aging society, Time Bank (TB) System has been actively used in 34 countries, especially in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. In Korea, the Gumi Senior Club has joined this system since 2004. TB is a multilateral exchanged system based on the philosophy that everyone's time is valued equally. Time credits are given to the person who provides social services, such as citizen participation and elderly care. People receive the desired services using time credits or donating them. If this system were applied to the Gangwon Province in accordance with its characteristics, it would help to reduce the elderly's prejudices and manage their diverse health problems. A virtual local currency using IT technologies is needed to boost the regional economy. The elderly's participation in TB is strongly needed. Future research about the effectiveness of health management is then discussed.

  • This study was performed to determine most appropriate mixed ratio of brewers dried grain to wheat bran as a nutrient supplement in the plastic vinyl bag cultivation of Grifola frondosa. In the examination of an appropriate nutrient source, the IV substrate formulation (80 : 10 : 10, oak sawdust : wheat bran : brewers dried grain) resulted in 71.6 days to harvest and the highest yield of 142.6 g/bag. On the other hand, the investigation of the optimal mixing ratio of beer waste to wheat bran showed that the III substrate formulation (80 : 5 : 15, oak sawdust : wheat bran : brewers dried grain) resulted in the least days to harvest (61.8 days), with the highest yield of 140.8 g/bag.

Soil landfill cultivation of the in plastic container boxes containing yield per log than but there was no difference in the yield from both spawn Hyangsan" variety. In the case of soil landfill cultivation in a shaded vinyl house, an Ailanthus tree gave a higher yield than that using poplar tree, and the yield of the Hosan" variety was higher than that of the Hyangsan" variety. With regard to proper tree species selection, willow and cherry trees were good for both the Hosan" and "Hyangsan" variet.

  • The occurrence of sulfonylurea-resistant weeds has recently increased in Korea. A survey was performed to investigate major paddy field weeds and frequently used herbicides in Gangwon province, Korea in order to establish a system to efficiently control herbicide-resistant weeds. The dominant paddy field weeds included Monochoria vaginalis (14%), Sagittaria trifolia (14%), Scirpus juncoides (13%), and Echinochloa spp. (13%), and the most widely used herbicides were oxadiazon 12% EC (27%), butachlor 5% GR (20%), oxadiargyl 1.7% EC (16%), and benzobicyclon+imazosulfuron+pyriminobac-methyl 6.1% SC (14%) in Gangwon province, Korea. Many paddy rice growers considered Scirpus juncoides, S. trifolia, Echinochloa spp. and M. vaginalis as herbicide-resistant weeds. An extensive research deserves to be conducted to monitor occurrence of herbicide-resistant paddy weeds in Gangwon province, Korea.
