The effect of voltage lead and tape arrangements on self-field losses in a Bi-2223 tape (전압리드 및 테이프 배열이 Bi-2223테이프의 자기자계손실에 미치는 영향)

  • The influence of voltage lead and tape arrangements on self-field losses was investigated by using a 1.5m long Bi-2223 tape. Experimental results show that the measured losses are strongly dependent on voltage lead configurations but not contact positions. The losses are independent on frequencies below critical current of the tape. It menas that the self-field losses are purely hysteretic.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in social play, cognitive play, and social-cognitive play patterns as related to young children's field independence-dependence cognitive styles. Sixteen field independent and sixteen field dependent children were selected from a group of 79 young children with the use of Preschool Embedded Figures Test(PEFT). Their social play, cognitive play, and social-cognitive play patterns were observed. The data collected for this study were analyzed by using SPSS/$PC^+$; frequency, percentage and ${\chi}^2$ test. The results of this study were that (1) difference of social play patterns as related to young children's field independence-dependence cognitive styles was not found, (2) differences were found in cognitive play patterns as related to young children's field independence-dependence cognitive styles, and (3) differences were found in social-cognitive play pattern as related to young children's field independence-dependence cognitive styles.

Voxel-wise UV parameterization and view-dependent texture synthesis for immersive rendering of truncated signed distance field scene model

  • In this paper, we introduced a novel voxel-wise UV parameterization and view-dependent texture synthesis for the immersive rendering of a truncated signed distance field (TSDF) scene model. The proposed UV parameterization delegates a precomputed UV map to each voxel using the UV map lookup table and consequently, enabling efficient and high-quality texture mapping without a complex process. By leveraging the convenient UV parameterization, our view-dependent texture synthesis method extracts a set of local texture maps for each voxel from the multiview color images and separates them into a single view-independent diffuse map and a set of weight coefficients for an orthogonal specular map basis. Furthermore, the view-dependent specular maps for an arbitrary view are estimated by combining the specular weights of each source view using the location of the arbitrary and source viewpoints to generate the view-dependent textures for arbitrary views. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively synthesizes texture for an arbitrary view, thereby enabling the visualization of view-dependent effects, such as specularity and mirror reflection.

Thermal conductivity measurements of non-Newtonian fluids in a shear field (전단력 영역에서의 비뉴톤 유체의 열전도율 측정)

  • An investigation was carried out to determine experimentally the thermal conductivities of non-Newtonian fluids in a shear field. Both time independent purely viscous and viscoelastic fluids were considered. A coaxial cylinder apparatus with a rotating outer cylinder was used to establish the velocity field in the test fluid. First, the thermal conductivity of distilled water measured to validate the instrument. The experimental water data agreed within 1% of literature values and there was no effect of outer cylinder rotation (shear field). However, for non-Newtonian fluids such as aqueous CMC and Separan solutions, there were significant increases in thermal conductivities of up to 70% for CMC and 50% for Separan depending on the shear rate, polymer concentration and temperature. Considering the shear rate dependent thermal conductivity in the study of heat transfer in non-Newtonian fluids could be important. As in natural convection, the momentum and energy equations could no longer be solved separately but would have to be solved simultaneously.

Self-field Loss Characteristics of a long Bi-2223/AgMgNi Tape (장척 Bi-2223/AgMgNi 테이프의 자기자계손실 특성)

  • The self-field losses in a long multifilamentary Bi-2223/AgMgNi tape with varying transport current, voltage tap configurations, frequency and tape arrangements were investigated. Experimental results show that the measured losses are strongly dependent on voltage gap configurations but independent on tape arrangements. All voltage taps except the center tap are found to agree well with those predicted by Norris for an elliptical conductor. The self-field losses are purely hysteretic in nature in the range of applied frequencies for the transport currents below the critical current.

The Effects of ARCS Model Based Instruction and Cognitive Style on Learning Motivation and Learning Achievement in Computer Education (전산수업에서 ARCS 모형이 인지양식에 따라 학습동기와 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims at identifying what effect ARCS model based instruction and cognitive style have on learning motivation and achievement in computer education. In order to accomplish this goal. 70 high school students were randomly allocated into the experiment group and the control group. And each group was divided into field-independent group and field-dependent group. The results were as follows. First, post test of learning motivation among four groups showed that mean differences were statistical significant. Especially 'ARCS model based instruction-field independent group got higher score than 'traditional instruction field dependent' group. Second, post test of learning achievement showed no significant mean difference among four group. The result of the pre and post test difference analysis showed that the change scores of means were significantly different.

The Effects of Learners' Cognitive Styles and Visual Organizer Types on Contents Comprehension and Awareness of Structure in Electronic Text Documents (학습자 인지양식과 시각적 조직자 유형이 전자 텍스트 문서의 내용이해 및 구조파악에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of the study was to reveal the effects of visual organizer types and cognitive styles in electronic text understanding. 126 graduate students were divided into a field-dependent group and a field-independent group, and then assigned to two different types of web- based instruction programs which included visual organizers of 'reduction' type and 'abstraction' type. Regarding the comprehension of contents, there were no significant effects of visual organizer types and cognitive styles. However, it was revealed that there were significant interaction effects between visual organizer types and cognitive styles on the awareness of structure in electronic texts. That is to say, while Type 2 ('abstraction' type) was more effective to field-dependent learners, Type 1 ('reduction' type) was more effective to field-independent learners in awareness of structure in electronic texts.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the characteristics of students with different cognitive styles in the communication process according to the types of mathematical tasks and investigate the effects of their cognitive styles and types of mathematical tasks on their mathematical communication. For this, the investigator selected subjects according to the field dependent-field independent cognitive style by Witkin et al.(1977, p. 7). Mathematical tasks were developed in the areas of numbers and operations, regularity, and measurement according to the four types of Stein & Smith(1998, p. 269), which include the Memorization, Procedures without Connections, Procedures with Connections, and Doing Mathematics tasks. The selected students were divided into homogeneous groups according to their cognitive styles, and their communication processes according to the four types of mathematical tasks were observed through participation and videotaped. The videotapes were then transcribed and analyzed in protocols. The conclusions is that mathematical tasks of high cognitive level had positive effects on the activation of significant mathematical communication among the students and that differences in approaches to tasks according to their cognitive styles influenced their communicative activities in speaking and listening.

  • This study investigated the influences of reciprocal peer tutoring strategy and field independencedependence in the instruction enhancing student questions by using weekly reports. Seventh graders (N=152) from a middle school were assigned to WR (weekly reports) and WR-RPT (weekly reports-reciprocal peer tutoring) groups. Students were taught about ‘three states of matter', ‘motion of molecules', and ‘change of states and thermal energy for eighteen class hours and wrote weekly reports six times for the period. The students in the WR-RPT group also conducted reciprocal peer tutoring with the questions of weekly reports which they wrote. The results revealed that the scores of the WR-RPT group were significantly higher than those of the WR group in a conception test regardless of students' field independence-dependence. The field dependent students in the WR-RPT group performed better in an achievement test than those in WR group, while there was no significant difference for the field independent stu dents between the two groups. Additionally, field independent students in each group scored significantly higher than field dependent students in the two tests. Many students, especially having more field independence in the WR-RPT group, perceived WR-RPT positively.

  • for the kぉ mechanics analysis of a crack in a weld of dissimilar steels, residual stress analysis and fracture analysis must be performed simultaneously. The standard definition of the J-integral leads to a path dependent value in the presence of a residual stress field. And unlike cracks in homogeneous materials, a bimaterial interface crack always induces both opening and shearing modes of stress in the vicinity of the crack tip. Therefore, it is necessary to develope a path independent J-integral definition for a crack in a residual stress field generated by welding of dissimilar steels. This paper addresses the modification of the Rice-J-integral to produce a path independent J-integral when residual stresses due to welding of dissimilar steels and external forces are present. The residual stress problem is heated as an initial stain problem and the J-integral proposed for this class of problems is used And a program which can evaluate the 1-integral for a crack in a weld of dissimialr steels is developed using proposed J-integral definition.
