Purpose: This study aimed to identify the influence of workplace violence experience and emotional labor on depression among caregivers. Methods: Data were collected from 227 caregivers working in long-term care institutions from August 20 to October 31, 2021. Workplace violence experience, emotional labor, and depression were measured using developed structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Among the participants, 14.5% complained of minor or severe depression. There was a significant difference in the degree of depression depending on whether caregivers experienced unfair situations from the organizations they belonged to. Emotional labor was identified as a major factor influencing depression by regression analysis. Conclusion: A campaign to improve social awareness to prevent caregivers' emotional labor experience leading to depression should be strengthened. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop an emotional capacity building intervention program to effectively cope with caregivers' emotional labor and depression.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine gender differences in eating disorders and in several risk factors; body dissatisfaction, perfectionism, self-esteem, and depression. Method: The data were collected from 423 students in grades 5 or 6 (230 male and 193 female) in this cross-sectional study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression were used with the SPSS/PC ver 12.0 program. Results: Girls experienced more symptoms of eating disorders, body dissatisfaction, and depression than boys. There were also gender differences in risk factors. For girls, depression, socially-prescribed perfectionism, and body dissatisfaction were related to eating disorder behaviors, whereas for boys, depression, self-oriented perfectionism, body dissatisfaction, and self-esteem were related to eating disorder behaviors. Conclusions: The results of the present study indicate that risk factors for eating disorders for boys and girls may be different, and these differences have implications for understanding the etiology of eating disorders and should be considered in planning possible nursing interventions.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the behavioral responses of children with burns, and anxiety and depression in their parents. Methods: Ninety-three parents of children with burns, ages 4 to 15 years who were admitted to hospital for an acute burn agreed to participate in this study. The Child Behavior Checklist, Beck Anxiety Inventory and Korean Version of Beck Depression Inventory were used for data collection. Results: The mean scores for acute traumatic disorder, post traumatic disorder, anxiety and depression were $9.05{\pm}3.04,\;39.59{\pm}8.75,\;11.89{\pm}11.53$, and $10.16{\pm}8.22$, respectively. There were significant relationships between depression and gender of children, education of parents, and number of family members. Child's behavioral responses were positively correlated with parents' anxiety and depression. Conclusion: The study found that the greater the behavioral responses of the children with burns, the more anxiety and depression experienced by the parents. The results indicate that psychological support must be provided for both the children with burns and their parents in conjunction with treatment of the burns.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of health perception, body image and sexual function on depression according to the menopausal stage in Korean middle aged women. Methods: Subjects were 182 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women who had not received hormonal replacement therapy. A five-item General HealthShort Form (SF-36) Health Survey Questionnaire (Ware & Sherbourne, 1992) was used to measure health perception. Body image was measured Semantic Differential scale, CES-D was used to measure the level of depression, and sexual function was measured by FSFI. Results: The subjects rated their health as 'moderate', their body image as 'moderate, and level of depression as 'high'. However, there were no significant differences in health perception, body image, and depression between perimenopasual and postmenopausal women. Postmenopausal women experienced lower levels of sexual function than perimenopausal women in sexual arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain. In stepwise regression analysis, 21.7% of variance in depression was shown to be perceived health and body image in postmenopausal women. However, in perimenopausal women, perceived health and sexual function explained 34.5% of variance in depression. Conclusion: These findings indicate that nurses must consider the menopasusal stage when counseling their patients.
Purpose: This study was a retrospective analysis with survey study which analyze influence of depression of patients with cancer on metastasis. Methods: The subjects of this research were 223 patients who underwent chemotherapy or are in follow-up management with stomach, colon, or breast cancer. The questionnaires were collected in 2002 and medical documents were reviewed 400 days after the first data collection. Subjects were divided according to the depression level into over-average group and under average group. Results: In survival analysis, metastasis occurred in 49 of 211 in 223 subjects for whom follow-up review was done after 400 days. The depression and anxiety level were higher in the group with metastasis than the other with no metastasis. As a result, it showed that the lower depression they have, the lesser the metastasis occurred. Conclusion: This research showed that patients who have higher level of depression, experienced higher risk for cancer metastasis. Nurses who take care of cancer patients are responsible for giving patients with positivity with intention to subside their depression.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the impact of fatigue, pain, anxiety and depression on the quality of life (QOL) among breast cancer patients. Methods: This study was conducted from July 12th to July 20th, 2010. One hundred and fifty breast cancer patients were recruited from D city in Korea. The instruments used in this study were the fatigue, pain, anxiety, depression and the quality of life scales for patients with breast cancer. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: The quality of life for cancer patients showed a significant relationship with fatigue, pain, anxiety and depression. The significant factors influencing quality of life were fatigue, pain, anxiety and depression that explained 65.6% of the variance. Conclusion: Patients with breast cancer experienced fatigue, pain, anxiety and depression which led to a negative effect on quality of life. The results suggest that intervention programs to reduce fatigue, pain, anxiety and depression could improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients.
Purpose : The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between stress, depression, coping styles, and satisfaction of clinical practice in paramedic students. Methods : The study was conducted to 221 paramedic students who have experienced clinical training from March until June in 2012. Questionnaires consisted of level of stress, depression, coping styles, and satisfaction of clinical practice. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results : The mean score of stress was $2.69({\pm}.69)$, depression was $19.09({\pm}9.41)$, coping styles was $3.17({\pm}.47)$, and satisfaction of clinical practice was $3.61({\pm}.58)$. Stress had a significant positive correlation with depression and a negative correlation with active coping and satisfaction of clinical practice. Depression had a significant positive correlation with passive coping and a negative correlation with satisfaction of clinical practice. Active coping had a significant positive correlation with passive coping and satisfaction of clinical practice. Conclusion : There was a positive effect on decreasing stress and depression in paramedic students, and encouraging positive coping when the students received counseling and instruction for clinical practice.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the experiences of depression, suicidal thoughts, and habitual drug use in middle and high school students and examine their relationship with the oral symptoms experiences. Methods: The participants of this study were 54,948 middle and high school students who took the screening and health survey at the 16th "Youth Health Behavior Survey" (2020). The SPSS statistical software (IBM SPSS 23.0 for Windows; IBM) was used for data analysis. The significance level was set to 0.05. Results: Complex-sample logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the relationship between the experiences of depression, suicidal thoughts, and habitual drug use and oral symptom experienced. The results indicated that the absence of depression, suicidal thoughts, or habitual drugs had a significant effect on oral symptom experience. Conclusion: A systematic counseling program for early detection of oral symptoms and oral health promotion as well as strategies for practicing correct oral hygiene are required. Additionally, it is necessary to develop a customized education program to promote health education in middle and high school students. It can be used as the basis for an integrated support system that students can use to grow healthy. A differentiated program on the topic of mental health promotion for each grade can be planned and its effects can be monitored.
