In this study, it focused on observational documentary based on observation. This study comparatively analyzed how differently the narrative style is implemented depending on the social and cultural background of East and West by analyzing the narrative style of Frederick Wiseman, a representative director of observational documentary who has been active in foreign countries for a long time, and Lee Seung-jun, recently become active in Korea. As a result of the analysis, It might be too early to judge by simple comparison of two directors, but it became an opportunity to see the difference between the long-standing observer style and the observer style documentary which actively accepts the new form. While it cannot be simply judged which style is better between the traditional observer style which shapes the simple contents into conflicts in the sequence structure and the recent style which sublimates the human inner conflict into the drama, a side could have been seen that the diversity is attained. It can be judged that the traditional documentary film can be gradually changed later. It was found that the documentary can emerge from the logic that it is difficult and boring, and that the same theme can be various and creative depending on what style is chosen.

This thesis aims to analyze the possibility of the self-representation style of Korean post-documentaries in the 2000s and analyze the possibilities of the visual writing. First of all, this study examined the theoretical background of the documentary, and derived the theoretical concepts from the poetic style and the performance style presented by Bill Nichols, and divided the strategies of self-representation in the post documentary into three categories. The three strategies of self-representation were to discuss the possibility of self-representation through the analysis of works through self-representation as self-emotion, self-representation as body, and self-visual representation. In the process of this discussion, I will examine how self-representation style deconstructs the existing visual system consisting of the system of the power and functions as a alternative visual writing that can appear various women and minorities.

Animation documentary is a hybrid genre that is newly highlighted with opposite properties. The actual world is reproduced with an unrealistic method in documentary aspect, but the objectivity of documentaries cannot be guaranteed as the boundary of actual pictures and digital images has become ambiguous. As the animation documentary by Ari Folman succeeded in 2008, the focus of this study is on 'how can fictional animations prove the authenticity of documentaries?' in which the study is mainly conducted in documentary aspect. For this, the researcher considers visual style research has important role in understanding and developing a new video genre, and asserts the necessity of research on reproduction image that is produced by the characteristics of animation which is produced in frame units. This paper has contents on the visual style of animation documentaries with pictorial reproduction methods in which animation images were classified into 3 styles based on previous research on animation documentary style. Visual styles are classified into actual image that is based on similarity with reality to deliver objective facts, image that is transformed through emphasis and omission which are factors of animations, and surrealistic image that reproduces non-visual regions such as illusions and the inner side of characters. Through this study that analyzes visual style types and characteristics, animation documentaries are expected to position as a hybrid genre that illustrates reality with a new method instead of being included in the existing reproduction method of documentaries.

The concept of style provides a useful structure in history of Art. In aspect of formative art, dress and art work are alike, so style is a useful concept in the historical methodology on dress. The main purpose of this study was to apply the art criticism to the historical methodology on dress. For this purpose, documentary studies about style as a tool of historical research were proceeded. The results were as follows : 1. The concept of style consists of the external form and the internal meaning as double roots. Therefore, it's indispensable that the two asp-ects of style, form and meaning, must to be harmonized to describe the historical phenomena in dress. 2. The change pattern of style in dress is not always predeterminate and regular according to the cyclical theory. From the alternative point of view, the change pattern of style could be to describe the continuous theory proposed by kroeber, Brodsky. The whole change of style is considered "liked solution" by this theory.is theory.

The purpose of this study is to inquire into social and cultural background of modernization and the new woman's life centered around a new woman and a dancer, Choi Seung-hee and its style. The study was carried out centered around analysis of content through photos of 179 pieces and a documentary DVD. We analyzed collected photo data and came to know various bobbed hair style, clear makeup style and Art-Deco fashion. Accordingly, Choi Seung-hee has external appearance as a new woman and we came to know she is a representative woman in Korea. Because she crossed over into North Korea, the study has not been actively carried out but if we consider Choi Seung-hee's influence over the dance world, her women's leader and fashion roles at that age, it is considered that the study on Choi Seung-hee's external style has a significant meaning.

Desktop Documentary is a new documentary mode which uses a screen capture technology to complete the multitasking process of the creator who searches in the Internet Open Archive instead of shooting with a camera and remixes the selected multimedia contents using a computer interface. In this paper, we explore the desktop documentary that transforms potential archives into database narratives in the new media environment, converts cinematic mise-en-$sc{\grave{e}}ne$ into computational mise-en-interface, and transcends the boundaries between creation and criticism through creative mechanism as curation through stream of consciousness. We also examine the concept, type and characteristics of the desktop documentary which emerges since 2010s as an experimental attempt of new media art, a new hybrid genre of mainstream horror film, a new mode of fiction film, a new mockumentary style, and a new form of video essay and audiovisual critique.

Xiao Quan is a leading documentary portrait photographer in China. He tried to shoot portrait photographs of celebrities in the literary and artistic world. By doing this, he represented their time period. We explored the way Xiao Quan implemented the times they lived in by analyzing their portrait photographs included in . Our research showed that Xiao Quan used images of their living environments, clothes and facial expressions and composition of portraits. Such various methods of creation are a means for the symbolic expressions of their times. This research not only finds the way Chinese documentary portraits are created but also provides an opportunity to increase the value of documentary portraits as historic documents.

The purpose of this study is to analyze efforts of the mesa trends on the modern fashion design. For the study documentary research and qualitative content analysis have been carried out. Articles in magazines, seminar reports, and news related to trends were collected and analyzed to develop mega trends nowadays. As results, $2002{\sim}2006$ mega trends were extracted to Co-divergence, Emotional tech, Bi-dentity, Private+One and $2002{\sim}2006$ design trends extracted to Camouflage, Transformation, Modular system, Blur, Ease. The influences of mega trends and design trends on the modern fashion design have been proved. Those were expressed as eclectic style, deconstructionist style, reductive style and functionalist style in fashion design. The present era could be defined as cultural pluralism blended with various cultures and styles. Fashion as the essential display of contemporary culture and society has been successfully confirmed in this study.

The part of women was limited in a large family of the past and the benefit of a family was more valuable than the advantage of an individual. But social activity of the individual who is a member of the family is increased by the industrialization and rapid changes of society. As a result importance of the family is on the decrease in a society. All such phenomenons make new family types that we could not imagine at past and various life-style. This research proposes life-style of the near future and investigated by life-style stream process according to change members of the family with various documentary record. In conclusion, life-style of the near future is changed individualistic, rationalistic and material.

The purpose of this study was to compare the characteristic of Chanel style between modern and postmodern period. The documentary research method was used for this study. The modem period was limited from around 1920 through 1939 and the postmodern period from 1990 through present for this research. The results were summarized as follows: The characteristics of clothing style in modem period were 1) the preference of slim & straight body figure as ideal one and slim & straight clothing silhouette, 2) the high fashion image for the elite by simple & basic design, 3) the emphasis on the harmony by the unity, 4) the tendency of eliminating ornaments on clothing, 5) the discontinuation of traditional way of dress code & style, and 6) the modern style. The characteristics of clothing style in postmodern period were 1) the emphasis on erotic aspects of female body and sexy design, 2) the popularization of high fashion and certain social group's fashion, 3) the tendency of harmony by mix-match, 4) the preference of ornaments in clothing, 5) the preference of retro-fashion, and 6) the continuation of modem style.
