  • Objectives: This paper discusses the current contexts of the collaboration between public health centers(PHCs) and community partners for health promotion. Then it suggests directions for the development and enhancement of the collaboration. Methods: The discussion in this paper is based on key literature on community health promotion, including literature reviews and case reports. Results: PHCs are mostly engaged in networking and cooperation rather than collaboration with the community. A typical pattern of cooperation is where PHCs provide healthy-setting types of programs to the community in single-partnered relationships. Current cooperation rarely involves co-planning by a multi-partnered partnership, and is greatly influenced by the interest of PHC directors and PHC performance evaluation indicators. Systems change is recommended to foster collaboration for community health promotion. Such change involves: shared understanding of health promotion and collaboration, inclusion of collaboration mechanism in public health governance, leadership development, capacity enhancement of all partners. role definition of PHCs for community collaboration, and development of collaborative system, at the least. Conclusions: At this point where collaboration should be more than rhetoric, multi-faceted, intersectoral, and concurrent approaches are required to create discourses, to develop cases, and to share experience for actual realization of collaboration for community health promotion.

  • Public health system and public health practice have changed over the past decades as the result of social and epidemiologic changes. New public health concept emphasizes leadership, strategical thinking, systematic planning and effective performance to identify and solve complex health problem In Korea, the role of Health Center has been expanded rapidly. However there is strong suspicion that Health Center can achieve their mission. This paper aims at understanding what is the needed functions of Health Center and which of its aspects needs improvement. The main results of this study are summarizes as follows. District Health Law does not address the core functions of Health Center. The staffs of Health Center have difficulties in prioritizing their services. The recent attempt to restructure Health Center and change delivery pattern of public health services ended with only limited success. To effectively confront threats to the public's health, the three major function of Health Center must be ${\circled}1$ modifying individual behavior and lifestyle, ${\circled}2$ improving social and economic conditions, and ${\circled}3$ reforming health policies. Better results do not come from setting new functions only; they come from understanding and improving the processes that will then leads to better outcome. We recommend that policy-makers focus economic evaluation of public health programs, building and spreading of the scientific evidence of programs, linkage of public health research and public health program. The criteria of delegation of public health service to private sector is urgently needed. Making community health information data available on a routine basis to providers, managers and researchers of public health services helps promote the efficiency of the overall operation of public health system.

Subjects : The 110 students in the 3rd year, practice at two public health centers in city P and city K. From the110, 53 male and female university students who practice in city K were selected to participate : 11males (20.8 %) and 42 females (79.2 %). Methods : The data analyzed were the self-reflections regarding the clinical practice. Results : These data indicate that : most of the participants now believe that public health centers provide many more services to the community than they previously knew about. They rate the public health center's programs highly, and want to be community health nurses. For the first time, they realize that the work of public health nurses is very important. In particular they note that their emotions while at the public health center differ significantly from when they work at the other. The environment in the public health center makes them feel more comfortable and less stressed. Generally, they are satisfied with their practice at the public health center. Conclusion : On the basis of these findings, the following recommendations can be made. Experience at public health centers is an important part of nursing students' education. I suggest that research on nursing students' experiences while practicing at the public health center should expand to include research methods other than the analysis of their reflection journals, In addition a follow-up study of experiences while practicing at the public health center should be attempted of self-reflections.

Methods: This study was a correlational survey using a convenience sampling. A total of 110 patients diagnosed with hypertension were recruited from a health center in Gyeonggi-do. The questionnaires used were the Cardiovascular Disease Specific-HRQOL questionnaire, Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Perceived Stress Scale. The acquired data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 22.0. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed. Results: Moderate depression symptom(${\beta}=-.368$, p<.001), severe depression symptom (${\beta}=-.450$, p<.001), stress(${\beta}=-.339$, p=.001), and gender(${\beta}=-.148$, p=.049) were significant predictors for the HRQOL. Multiple linear regression showed that 51.8% ($R^2=.518$) of the variance in the HRQOL was explained. Conclusion: Based on these results, development of an intervention or education program, to decrease depression symptoms and stress is recommended. This may improve the HRQOL in patients with hypertension registered to a community health center.
