Nursing Students' Awareness of Career Decision-making Self-efficacy, Career Search Behavior and Commitment to Career Choice (간호대학생의 진로결정 자기효능감과 진로탐색행동 및 진로결정몰입에 대한 인식)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate nursing students' awareness of career decision-making self-efficacy, career search behavior and commitment to career choice. Methods: Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from 397 nursing students in D city from October 1 to October 8, 2014. Results: The average score of career decision-making self-efficacy, career search behavior and commitment to career choice was 3.42, 3.08 and 3.27 on a Likert 5 point-scale respectively. Career decision-making self-efficacy and career search behavior were significantly different according to grade of subject. There were positive correlations between career decision-making self-efficacy, career search behavior and commitment to career choice. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an effective career support program from 1st grade to improve nursing student's career decision-making self-efficacy, career search behavior and commitment to career choice.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze group differences of Commitment to career choice and Career stress coping strategy by the Career decision and Career preparation behavior for College Students. Through the results of this study we wanted to look for discriminatory implications for the counseling intervention. The data of 720 college students were collected for the study. The distinction of four types was revealed by the results from Crosstabs and One-way ANOVA. The frequency of upper grades indicated ideal type. But the immature type was fourth grade. There were significant differences in accordance with the two-dimensional typology of Commitment to career choice and Career stress coping strategy by One-way ANOVA. Discussion focused on effective intervention strategies in career counseling based on group differences by the Career decision and Career Preparation Behavior.

Relationship of career-related stress, commitment to a career choice and career decision self-efficacy of college students (대학생의 진로스트레스, 진로선택몰입 및 진로결정 자기효능감과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of career-related stress, commitment to a career choice and career decision self-efficacy of college students. The participants were 293 college students in P city. Data were collected by using self-report questionnaires from May 6 to 29, 2015. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson,s correlation coefficient and Hierarchical regression analysis by SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. The career-related stress was negatively correlated with commitment to a career choice (r=-.731, p<.001) and career decision self-efficacy(r=-.449, p<.001). The influencing factors of career-related stress were grade(${\beta}$=.99, p<.017) and commitment to a career choice(${\beta}$=-.707, p<.001). This study concludes that it is necessary to develop education program to improve commitment to a career choice and career decision self-efficacy.

  • The purpose of this study were to investigate relations among family resilience, self-determination(autonomy, perceived competence, relatedness) and commitment to career choice and to examine the meditating effects of self-determination(autonomy, perceived competence, relatedness) in the process by which family resilience affected commitment to career choice. Subjects of the study were 277 college students in the Chungbuk and Kyungpook province. AMOS 7.0 was employed to analyze the data. The results were as follows: First, college students' family resilience had a direct impact on college students' self-determination(autonomy, perceived competence, relatedness) and commitment to career choice. Second, students' self-determination(autonomy, perceived competence, relatedness) had a direct impact on students' commitment to career choice. Third, it was found students' self-determination(autonomy, perceived competence, relatedness) was a meditating factor in the relationship between students' family resilience, and commitment to career choice.

Mediating Effect between Self-Determination and Career Preparation Behavior of Students at Vocational Training School : focusing on Commitment to Career Choice (직업전문학교 학생들의 자기결정성과 진로준비행동에 관한 매개효과: 진로결정몰입 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this research is to provide implication for the preparation of the specific and practical strategy through an analysis of whether commitment to career choice (vocational exploration commitment and tendency to foreclose) acts as a mediating effect between self-determination (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) and career preparation behavior. Data was collected from 258 students at a vocational training school in Seoul, and was analyzed hierarchical regression analysis. The result shows that commitment to career choice has partial mediating effect on the relationship between self-determination and career preparation behavior. Secondly, self-determination effects on career preparation behavior and among them, the effect of relatedness is predominant. The result of this study suggest practical insights about how a vocational training school can motivate students to participate in self-determination and commitment to career choice for improved educational environment with related career preparation programs.

The Effects of Personality, Ego-resilience, and Commitment to Career Choice on the Adaptation to College among New Nursing Students from Various Regions (타 지역 거주 간호학과 신입생의 인성, 자아탄력성, 진로선택몰입이 대학 생활 적응에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of personality, ego-resilience, and commitment to career choice on the adaptation to college among new nursing students residing in various regions. Methods: The participants were 175 freshmen in nursing departments at 7 universities located in D Metropolitan city. Data were collected through an online questionnaire from June 20, 2022 to July 1, 2022. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using IBM SPSS/WIN 28.0 software. Results: The average scores of participants were as follows: personality (4.10±0.41), ego-resilience (3.55±0.62), commitment to career choice (3.36±0.59), and adaptation to college (3.63±0.58). The factors influencing college adaptation were ego-resilience, personality, satisfaction with nursing major, and commitment to career choice. The combined explanatory power of these variables for college adaptation was 64.8%. Conclusion: This study highlights the necessity for developing educational programs, training initiatives, and curricular activities to enhance ego-resilience, foster appropriate personality, increase satisfaction with nursing major, and improve commitment to career choice levels among new nursing students residing in various regions.

The Influence of Empathy, Social Support, and Major Satisfaction on the Career Choice Commitment in Nursing Freshmen (간호학과 신입생의 공감능력, 사회적지지, 전공만족도가 진로선택몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was a descriptive research study aimed at identifying the factors influencing career choice commitment in nursing freshmen, focusing on empathy, social support, and major satisfaction. The subjects of the study were 153 nursing freshmen from one university in Chungbuk and one university in Gyeongbuk. The data collection period was from June 3 to June 15, 2024, and the questionnaire took about 30 minutes to complete. The results of the study showed that explained 46.3% of the variance in career choice commitment, and the regression model was statistically significant (F=44.71, p<.001). The influencing factors were, in order, major satisfaction (β=.50, p<.001), empathy (β=.25, p<.001), and university satisfaction dummy 2 (average) (β=-.13, p=.042). Based on these findings, it is recommended to conduct further repeated studies to identify various factors influencing career choice commitment. Additionally, it is suggested to develop customized career exploration and employment programs by grade level to examine the factors affecting career choice commitment in nursing students beyond freshmen.

  • The aim of this study was to identify a variables that can affect Commitment to a Career Choice focusing mainly on the satisfaction with one's major in college and personal agency beliefs. This research carried out a survey on a total of 626 students at 4-year public and private university. The information is processed using the SPSSWIN19.0 program, which carried out frequency analysis, reliability measurement, one-way ANOVA, linear regression analysis, multiple moderating regression analysis, and three-step mediate regression analysis. The results of this study showed that groups showing greater satisfaction with their major had a higher level of commitment to a career choice. Personal beliefs was one thing that can achieve partial mediation or complete mediation when it comes to the relationship between the satisfaction of their major and commitment to a career choice.

Changes in Career Choice Commitment, Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy, and Career Maturity of High School Students Participating in the Gyeonggi-do Cluster Curriculum: Focusing on Health (경기도 클러스터 교육과정 참여 고등학생의 진로결정몰입, 진로결정 자기효능감, 진로성숙도의 변화: 보건과목 중심)

  • This study is a one group pretest-posttest design study to confirm changes in career choice commitment, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career maturity before and after high school students participate in the Gyeonggi-do health cluster curriculum. The study was conducted on 47 second grade high school students who participated in health clusters of 3 high schools in Gyeonggi-do. The study was conducted from March 8, 2021 to December 29, 2021, and data collection was conducted through a self-reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 with frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, and paired t-test. As a result of the study, high school students who participated in the health cluster curriculum improved their career choice commitment(t=-9.01, p<.001), career decision-making self-efficacy(t=-8.45, p<.001), and career maturity(t=-3.63, p=<.002) statistically significantly after participation. Through the results of this study, a standardized program of the health cluster curriculum that can improve the level of career decision-making of high school students should be developed.

  • In today's rapidly changing business environment, corporations need to have flexibility in order to survive. This was especially true of Korean firms that were affected by the policies of the International Monetary Fund(IMF) since 1997. IMF requirements became a catalyst that helped Korean firms design their HR practices more rational and efficient. Although these changes increased the firms flexibility and global competitiveness, they also brought some harmful effects. Job insecurity is one of the most serious problems in Korean firms and in the greater Korean society, As today's organizations no longer lifelong employment, individuals put stress on psychological satisfaction with the need to manage one's career and employability in the open labor market rather than rapid promotion or high compensation in a organizations. Theoretically and empirically, the topics of career choice and career development were extensively developed. On the other hand, the issue of career commitment received little attention. The purpose of this study is to examine the preceding factors career commitment among public officials in Korea.
