This study was aimed at determining a regime of flow through rubble mound dike consisted of all sized quarrystons, and deriving a relationship between hydraulic gradient (I) and mean flow velocity (V) through the dike. The analysis was carried out with the data observed after final gap closing of the Haenam Sea dike from May, 6 to May, 14, 1987. The resu]ts are summarized as follows: 1. The regime of flow would be defined as the turbulent flow. 2. As to the relationships, two kinds of formula that are exponential and binomial were obtained. Exponential formula: I=2.099V 1.2888 Binomial formula: I=0.6113V+5.5235V$^2$ 3. Correlation coefficient of the former was 0.824 and that of the latter was 0.821, and the deviations between observed data and estimated were 0.0070 and 0.0064 respectively. 4. Comparing the correlation coefficient, both the equations have the same correlation coefficients, but in case of the deviation the binomial equation was better than the exponential equation. Therefore, the binomial equation is proposed for analyzing the flow through rubble mound dike.

In this paper, we consider an insurance risk model governed by a compound Binomial arrival claim process and by a compound Binomial arrival premium process. Some formulas for the probabilities of ruin and the distribution of ruin time are given, we also prove the integral equation of the ultimate ruin probability and obtain the Lundberg inequality by the discrete martingale approach.

일차방정식의 해결 과정에서 어떤 문항은 등호('=')관계를 올바르게 표현하고, 다른 문항은 등호('=')관계를 올바르게 표현하지 못한 것으로 나타났다. 학생들이 등호('=') 관계를 올바르게 표현할 수 있는지, 표현할 수 없는지는 문항에 따라 그 반응이 다르게 나타나므로 여러 문항에 대한 테스트를 한 후에 비교 분석하여 학습지도 방향을 설정하고, 교수 학습지도가 이루어져야 할 것이다. 일차방정식의 풀이 방법이 제시되지 않은 문항에서 방정식의 해를 구한 대부분의 학생들은 이항을 사용하여 해결 하였다. 등식의 성질을 사용하여 해결하라는 문항에서도 등식의 성질을 사용하여 해결하기 보다는 이항을 사용하여 해결한 학생들이 대부분 이었다. 등식의 성질과 이항을 모두 사용하여 방정식을 해결할 수 있도록 교수 학습이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

There are various methods for evaluating a matrix square root, which is a solvent of the quadratic matrix equation $X^2-A=0$. We consider new iterative methods for solving matrix square roots of M-matrices. Particulary we show that the relaxed binomial iteration is more efficient than Newton-Schulz iteration in some cases. And we construct a formula to find relaxation coefficients through statistical experiments.

The distribution of staff in a hierachial organization has been studied in a variety of forms and models. Results here show that the promotion process follows a binomial distribution with parameters n and $\alpha=e^{-pt}$ and the recruitment process follows a poisson distribution with parameter $\lambda$. Futhermore, the mean time to promotion in the grade was estimated.

For an irreducible binomial polynomial $f(x)=x^n-b{\in}K[x]$ with a field K, we ask when does the mth iteration $f_m$ is irreducible but $m+1th\;f_{m+1}$ is reducible over K. Let S(n, m) be the set of b's such that $f_m$ is irreducible but $f_{m+1}$ is reducible over K. We investigate the set S(n, m) by taking K as the rational number field.

The Robust Controller for scan-loop is designed using LQG/LTR Methodology. The design and analysis of spiral, rosette and conical scan patterns are discussed. The perfermance and robustness of the LQG/LTR controller are analyzed through experiments and cpmpared with those of the P-controller. Especially to improve the scan performance at large look angle, the cage coil output is linearized using a binomial equation. It is demonstrated that the scan-loop system by the LQG/LTR control is very robust to phase uncertainties.

This paper examines the reliability of a VSC-HVDC valve based on a modular multilevel converter (MMC) HVDC system. The main objective of this paper is to determine the redundancy of the MMC valve. Several prediction methods are introduced, but the binomial failure method is selected to be used. To determine the availability and reliability prediction of MMC valve, which comprises a DC/DC converter, a gate driver, a capacitor, and an IGBT, the failure data of the MMC module are used as the tracking data according to the experimental result. This method uses a simplified equation to find the valve redundancy by transforming the binomial function to De Moivre's formula. This method is the first to be used to find the valve margin.

In this paper we give formulae for sums of products of two Horadam type generalized Fibonacci numbers with the same recurrence equation and with possibly different initial conditions. Analogous improved alternating sums are also studied as well as various derived sums when terms are multiplied either by binomial coefficients or by members of the sequence of natural numbers. These formulae are related to the recent work of Belbachir and Bencherif, $\v{C}$erin and $\v{C}$erin and Gianella.

Extending the method of extractions of square and cube roots in Jiuzhang Suanshu, Jia Xian introduced zengcheng kaifangfa in the 11th century. The process of zengcheng kaifangfa is exactly the same with that in Ruffini-Horner method introduced in the 19th century. The latter is based on the synthetic divisions, but zengcheng kaifangfa uses the binomial expansions. Since zengcheng kaifangfa is based on binomial expansions, traditional mathematicians in East Asia could not relate the fact that solutions of polynomial equation p(x) = 0 are determined by the linear factorization of p(x). The purpose of this paper is to reveal the difference between the mathematical structures of zengcheng kaifangfa and Ruffini-Honer method. For this object, we first discuss the reasons for zengcheng kaifangfa having difficulties to connect solutions with linear factors. Furthermore, investigating multiple solutions of equations constructed by tianyuanshu, we show differences between two methods and the structure of word problems in the East Asian mathematics.
