Design of a Gain Scheduling Controller to Improve Pull-in Performance in Optical Disc Drive (광디스크 드라이버의 풀인(pull-in) 성능향상을 위한 이득 스케줄링 제어기의 설계)

  • This paper proposes a stable gain scheduling method of linear time invariant controllers for tracking servo system. In order to read and write the data on the optical disc, the pick-up head should be moved to the exact track quickly and follow the track immediately. Two different controllers are used for each moving and track-following. In pull-in period, a transition period from moving to track-following, the head might slip and miss the target track. This brings on another searching process and increases the total time. One way to avoid slipping is to extend the bandwidth of the track-following controller. But, extending the bandwidth could degrade the following performance. More prevalent way is to use one more controller in this pull-in period and switch to the following controller. In general, however, switching or scheduling of stable controllers cannot guarantee the stability. This paper suggests an scheduling method guaranteeing the overall stability not only in a generalized form but also in special form for SISO system. The sufficient condition is derived from the fact that Q factor of a stable controller should be stay in $RH_{\infty}$ space. In the experiment, the proposed method shows better performance than the switching method such as shorter time and lower current consumption.

Dynamic Control of Random Constant Spreading Worm Using the Power-Law Network Characteristic (멱함수 네트워크 특성을 이용한 랜덤확산형 웜의 동적 제어)

  • Recently, Random Constant worm is increasing The worm retards the availability of the overall network by exhausting resources such as CPU resource and network bandwidth, and damages to an uninfected system as well as an infected system. This paper analyzes the Power-Law network which possesses the preferential characteristics to restrain the worm from spreading. Moreover, this paper suggests the model which dynamically controls the spread of the worm using information about depth distribution of the delivery node which can be seen commonly in such network. It has also verified that the load for each node was minimized at the optimal depth to effectively restrain the spread of the worm by a simulation.

  • Recent studies have pointed out that existing high-speed TCP protocols have a severe unfairness and TCP friendliness problem. As the congestion window achieved by a high-speed TCP connection can be quite large, there is a strong possibility that the sender will transmit a large burst of packets. As such, the current congestion control mechanisms of high-speed TCP can lead to bursty traffic flows in hi인 speed networks, with a negative impact on both TCP friendliness and RTT unfairness. The proposed solution to these problems is to evenly space the data sent into the network over an entire round-trip time. Accordingly, the current paper evaluates this approach with a high bandwidth-delay product network and shows that pacing offers better TCP friendliness and fairness without degrading the bandwidth scalability.

  • The traditional TCP was designed assuming wired networks. Thus, if it is used networks consisting of both wired and wireless networks, all packet losses including random losses in wireless links are regarded as network congestion losses. Misclassification of packet losses causes unnecessary reduction of transmission rate, and results in waste of bandwidth. In this paper, we present WTCP(wireless TCP) congestion control algorithm that differentiates the random losses more accurately, and adopts improved congestion control which results in better network throughput. To evaluate the performance of proposed scheme, we compared the proposed algorithm with TCP Westwood and TCP Veno via simulations.

  • In this paper we propose a DMR-II shared-medium access control protocol which was developed for the ATM access network users to support isochronous and non-isochronous traffics simultaneously under the bandwidth sharing environment, and describe its architecture and operation principles. The DMR-II protocol uses the slotted-ring topology, and gives the higher transmission priority to the isochronous traffic than the non-isochronous traffic. To support the isochronous traffic it uses the slot reservation mechanism, and maintains the delay variation of the isochronous traffic beyond the threshold value by using the blocking mechanism whenever the total user traffic overflows the network's bandwidth limitation. for the non-isochronous traffic the DMR-II protocol lets all the nodes to have fair transmission chances by using the reset mechanism based on the window counter scheme.

  • A connection admission control scheme is proposed that can seamlessly support QoS in face of handoff in mobile packet networks. The proposed scheme is based on the adaptive time-selective bandwidth reservation with the reduced signaling and computational overhead. The reservation parameters are adjusted dynamically to cope with user mobility. Throughout the computer simulations, the performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated. As a result, it is shown that the proposed scheme reduces handoff call blocking probability remarkably, while other parameters (new call blocking probability and bandwidth utilization efficiency) are slightly deteriorated.

  • In this paper, we'll show that an improved PDFF controller is obtained by substituting a feedforward compensator in the existing PDFF system with a dual-input describing function, and the controller has the ability of adjusting the bandwidth of a system as well as the phase margin simultaneously. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is confirmed by applying to the DC-motor position control system. As the results of simulation, we know that it is possible to design a controller by which the bandwidth of the closed system and its phase margin are easily adjusted.

A PDFF Position Control using Non-linear Compensator (비선형 보상기를 이용한 PDFF 위치제어)

  • In this paper, a new controller using non-linear compensator for position control is presented, which we can satisfy the given specifications more easily than the existing one. We suggest an improved PDFE(Integral with Proportional-Derivative-plus-Feedforward) controller by which both phase margin and bandwidth are controlled simultaneously in the controller design problem. Replacing the feed forward term in the PDFF system with a CDIDF(Complex Dual Input Describing Function), the desired phase margin is obtained without diminishing the bandwidth of the closed loop system. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is confirmed through simulations and experiments. As The results of these, we know that it is possible to adjust overall specifications by varying parameters in the improved PDFF system.

  • On ATM networks, MPEG video stream is transferred using CBR or VBR services. But because the MPEG video traffic varies greatly from time to time, it is very difficult to transfer the MPEG steam efficiently without loss of transmission bandwidth. Until now, the study on the traffic analysis and control on a single MPEG video stream has been done by many researchers, but the traffic analysis and control on a multiplexed traffic of multiple MPEG video streams has not been studied by any researcher. This paper proposes a multiplexing method to reduce the PCR and traffic variance of a multiplexed traffic of multiple MPEG video streams. By reducing the PCR of the multiplexed traffic, the multiplexed VBR traffic can be transferred efficiently with less loss of transmission bandwidth.

An Improved RF Detection Algorithm Using EMD-based WT

  • More and more problems for public security have occurred due to the limited solutions for drone detection especially for micro-drone in long range conditions. This paper aims at dealing with drones detection using a radar system. The radio frequency (RF) signals emitted by a controller can be acquired using the radar, which are usually too weak to extract. To detect the drone successfully, the static clutters and linear trend terms are suppressed based on the background estimation algorithm and linear trend suppression. The principal component analysis technique is used to classify the noises and effective RF signals. The automatic gain control technique is used to enhance the signal to noise ratios (SNR) of RF signals. Meanwhile, the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based wavelet transform (WT) is developed to decrease the influences of the Gaussian white noises. Then, both the azimuth information between the drone and radar and the bandwidth of the RF signals are acquired based on the statistical analysis algorithm developed in this paper. Meanwhile, the proposed accumulation algorithm can also provide the bandwidth estimation, which can be used to make a decision accurately whether there are drones or not in the detection environments based on the probability theory. The detection performance is validated with several experiments conducted outdoors with strong interferences.
