Minimum BER Power Allocation for OFDM-based Cognitive Radio Networks

  • In this paper, the optimal power allocation algorithm that minimizes the aggregate bit error rate (BER) of the secondary user (SU) in a downlink orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based cognitive radio (CR) system, while subjecting to the interference power constraint and the transmit power constraint, is investigated under the assumption that the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of the interference links between the secondary transmitter and the primary receiver, and between the primary transmitter and the secondary receiver is perfectly known. Besides, a suboptimal algorithm with less complexity is also proposed. In order to deal with more practical situations, we further assume that only the channel distribution information (CDI) of the interference links is available and propose heuristic power allocation algorithms based on bisection search method to minimize the aggregate BER under the interference outage constraint and the transmit power constraint. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

  • This paper presents a new structure of MPEG-4 AAC encoder. The proposed encoder directly shapes quantization noise distribution according to the energy distribution curve and thereafter performs adjustment of the offset level of the noise distribution to meet the given bit rate. The direct noise shaping and the bit rate matching scheme of the proposed encoder algorithm significantly alleviate the problem of conventional encoder's processing burden related with the employment of the precise psychoacoustic model and iteration intensive quantizer. The encoder algorithm is implemented on ARM processor with fixed-feint arithmetic operations. The audio quality of the implemented system is observed comparable to those of commercially available encoders, white the complexity of the implementation is drastically reduced in comparison to the conventional encoder systems.

A Study on the Performance Improvement of TCP using ABR/UBR Services (ABR/UBR 서비스를 이용한 TCP 성능개선에 관한 연구)

  • ATM network technology is generally used for the integration of multimedia services in high-speed Internet. ABR (Available Bit Rate) and UBR (Unspecified Bit Rate) service classes have been developed specifically to support data application. In this paper, through the result of simulation, we analyzed the effect of TCP data transmission performance by using FRR (Fast Retransmission and Recovery) and Nagle's Algorithm on the UBR service, and by adjusting EFCI switch parameter on the ABR service. As a result of our study, performance improvement of TCP over ATM network is observed by adjusting TCP parameters and setting of effective switch parameter.

  • ATM 통신망의 성공 및 확산을 위해서는 신규서비스의 창출과 함께 기존 서비스의 가격 경쟁력 있는 수용이 요구되는데, 인터넷 (IP)은 그 사용자 및 서비스의 수요를 고려할 때 ATM 망에서 가장 먼저 수용해야 할 서비스로서 현재 ATM 통신망에서의 인터넷 수용방안이 다양하게 논의되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 전력정보통신망을 전제로 하여 ATM WAN 통신망에서의 IP 서비스 수용에 관심을 두고 이를 위한 두 가지 방안으로 LAN Emulation 모델과 간단한 형태의 IP Internetworking 모델을 설정하고, LAN 과 WAN 접속구간의 서비스 카테고리가 ABR(Available Bit Rate)과 UBR(Unspecified Bit Rate)인 경우에 대해서 각 모델별로 적용하여 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 성능 비교를 위해 TCP 계층과 ATM 계층에서의 end-to-end delay를 분석한 결과, LAN-Emulation 모델을 적용하는 경우 간단한 형태의 IP Internetworking 모델에서 보다 성능효율이 우수하고, LAN과 WAN 접속구간의 서비스 카테고리는 백본 ATM 교환기와 Edge 단말에서의 버퍼크기가 동일한 경우 ABR이 UBR보다 성능효율이 우수함을 알 수 있었다.

  • In this paper, we study QoS(Quality of Service) control protocols and the effect using MAC/PHY parameters of client device in mobile network. We proposes the way of controling the bit-rate by estimating the channel condition of the client with measured MAC/PHY parameters which is sent from the client. With the proposed method, more accurate available bit-rate can be estimated compared to conventional protocol, RTCP(Real-time Transport Control Protocol). The accurate bit-rate estimation can decrease wasted bit-rate and transport delay. In the result of the advantages, the transported video quality can be enhanced. In this paper, we show the effects of enhancement using client's the field data measured in WiMAX.

  • In this paper, we present an exact and general expression involving two-dimensional Gaussian Q-functions for the bit error rate (BER) of hierarchical MPSK with I/Q phase and amplitude imbalances over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. First we derive a BER expression for the k-th bit of hierarchical 4, 8, 16-PSK signal constellations when Gray code bit mapping is employed. Then, from the derived k-th bit BER expression, we present the exact and general average BER expression for hierarchical MPSK with I/Q phase and amplitude imbalances. This result can readily be applied to numerical evaluation for various cases of practical interest in an I/Q unbalanced hierarchical MPSK system, because the one- and two-dimensional Gaussian Q-functions can be easily and directly computed usinB commonly available mathematical software tools.

Performance Comparison of Multicast ABR Flow Control Algorithms with Fast Overload Indication in ATM Networks (ATM망에서 신속한 폭주통지 기능을 지닌 멀티캐스트 ABR 흐름제어 알고리즘의 성능비교)

  • This paper compares the performance of feedback consolidation algorithms with or without a fast overload indication function which has been recently proposed in the ATM Forum for multicast ABR (Available Bit Rate) services in ATM networks. We use the performance criteria such as the ACR (Allowed Cell Rate) of a source, queue length at a switch, link utilization, fairness, and BRM (Backward Resource Management) cell overhead. Simulation results show that performance of the feedback consolidation algorithms with a fast overload indication function can be improved sign.ificantly than that of algorithms without this function in terms of ramp-down delay, particularly in initial start-up period or under a severe overload situation. The fast overload indication function can be combined with any feedback consolidation algorithm, whereas its performance is highly dependent on an underlying basic feedback consolidation algorithm.

  • EMRCA(Explicit Max_min Rate Control Algorithm) switch, which has been proposed in the ATM(Asychronous Transfer Mode) standard, controls the ABR(Available Bit Rate) service traffic in the ATM networks. The ABR service class of ATM networks uses a feedback control mechanism to adapt to varying link capacities. The VS/VD(Virtual Source/Virtual Destination) technique offers the possibility to segment the otherwise end-to-end ABR control loop into separate loops. The improved feedback delay and the control of ABR traffic inside closed segments provide a better performance and QoS(Quality of Service) for ABR connections with respect to throughput, delay, and jitter. This paper is study of an ABR VS/VD flow control method. Linear control theory offers the means to derive correct choices of parameters and to assess performance issues, like stability of the system, during the design phase. The performance goals are a high link utilization, fair bandwidth distribution and robust operation in various environments, which are verified by discrete event simulations. The major contribution of this work is the use of linear control theory to model and design an ABR flow control method tailored for the special layout of a VS/VD switch, the simulation shows that this techniques better than conventional method.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient explicit rate (ER) feedback switch algorithm for available bit rate (ABR) flow control. In order to improve the disadvantages of existing ER feedback switch algorithms with congestion avoidance, the proposed scheme adjusts the target utilization dynamically according to the queue length and its growth rate. also, we investigate the performance of the proposed switch algorithm and compare it with ERICA and NIST switches using simulation. Simulation results show that the proposed switch algorithm can control the cell emission rate of a source rapidly according to variations of available link bandwidth by using dynamic adaptation of target utilization. It also exhibits a better performance than the existing ER feedback switches in terms of queue length and link utilization.

  • I/Q phase unbalance caused by non-ideal circuit components is inevitable physical phenomenons and leads to performance degradation when we implement a practical coherent M-ary phase shift keying(M-PSK) demodulator.
