Study on Needs and Satisfaction of Service Related to Assistive Device and Assistive Device for Long-Term Care Elderly : Focused on Beneficiary Older Adults People in Long-term Care Insurance (노인복지용구의 품목 및 서비스의 만족도와 요구도에 대한 연구:노인장기요양보험 등급 인정자를 중심으로)

  • This study is was to suggest improvement of assistive device for the elderly according to investigate the satisfaction and the needs of assistive device for elderly. The subjects were 184 beneficiary older adults in long-term health insurance who used home care service in I city and D city. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. With the exception of cognitive assistance grade, subjects were showed from 'normal' to ' satisfied' on a types of assistive device and services related to assistive device. I, II grade subjects needed assistive device for self-care. III, IV and V grade subjects needed assistive device for safety and health maintenance. In the service related assistive device, All subjects needed service on 'periodic follow-up service', 'expert on assistive device' and 'comprehensive evaluation'. This results is significant in that it suggest to needed assistive device in accordance with grade unlike previous studies. Results of this study will expected to utilize as a basic evidence for improvement of assistive device, service related to assistive device for elderly.

Recognition and Utilization of Physical Therapists for Assistive Technology (물리치료사의 보조공학에 대한 인식과 활용)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the level of recognition and utilization of Korean physical therapists for assistive technology. Methods: The subjects of this study were 218 physical therapists who worked in various institutions in Seoul, Kyonggi-do, and Choongchung area. A questionnaire was developed using a related article. Simple descriptive statistics were used for respondent characteristics, and for the level of recognition and utilization. Results: The physical therapists reported having a less-than-average level of recognition and utilization for assistive technology. They were cognizant that the use of assistive technology devices were used mainly for specific outcome such as mobility, seating and position, and ADL. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that physical therapists need more opportunities for training in assistive technology. For effective clinical applications of assistive technology, there should be continuous support, such as college education, continued education, and related seminars.

Effects of Community-based Rehabilitation Programs on Activities of Daily Living, Quality of Life and Assistive Technology Satisfaction for Disabled Adults in South Korea

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of community-based rehabilitation (CBR) program on activities of daily livings (ADLs), quality of life and assistive technology satisfaction for disabled adults in South Korea. Fourteen community-dwelling subjects were participated in a home-based rehabilitation program which performed once a month for 2 months. The outcome measures included Modified Barthel Index (MBI) for assessing ADLs, EuroQol five-dimensions questionnaire (EQ-5D) for quality of life (QoL) and Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with assistive Technology 2.0 (QUEST 2.0) for assistive technology. Significant improvements in ADLs, quality of life and assistive technology satisfaction were observed after the program. This study indicated that community-based rehabilitation program is an effective method for improving ADLs, quality of life and assistive technology satisfaction for adults with disabilities.

  • Today only 5-15% (approximately 1 in 10 persons) of persons with disabilities in need globally have access to assistive products which assist or replace the impaired functioning[1]. GATE (Global Cooperation on Assistive Technology) is a WHO global initiative for cooperation of stakeholders to cope with current and future challenges in product design, pricing, delivery and services, as well as medical and social system, expert training, and policies. This paper introduces the concept of WHO GATE to improve access to assistive technology for everyone by the cooperation with global key stakeholders.

An Analysis of the Intellectual Structure of Assistive Technology Journal Using Co-Word Analysis (동시출현단어 분석을 이용한 보조공학 저널의 지적구조 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the intellectual structure of Assistive Technology Journal using co-word analysis of keywords. The articles of Assistive Technology Journal were collected from Web of Science citation database. 255 articles during the period from 2003 to 2015 were selected for the analysis. And 1,359 author keywords were extracted from the articles. In order to analyze the intellectual structure of Assistive Technology Journal, clustering analysis was conducted and 5 clusters were determined. Next, 5 clusters are presented in the map of multidimensional scaling. The results of this study are expected to assist in exploring the future directions of the researches on assistive technology.

Analysis of Employment Effect on Assistive Technology Program for the Disabled Using Propensity Score Matching (성향점수 매칭을 이용한 보조공학기기 지원사업의 고용효과 분석)

  • This study was aimed to examine effects of the assistive technology program that has purpose to maintain and promote employment of persons with disabilities. An administrative data constructed by the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled(KEAD) was utilized. Propensity score matching were used as analysis methods to minish sample selection bias caused by nonrandom sampling. As a result, turnover rate of people with disabilities who used assistive technology device was lower compared to persons with disabilities did not use assistive technology device. Also, in terms of company, for employment promotion effect on the persons with disabilities, company that provided assistive technology device was higher than that of company did not provide assistive technology device. Finally, assistive technology devices were effective in the employment area was confirmed.

Improvement measures for Satisfaction of Utilization and its' Comparison of Assistive Products in Long-term care Elderly (장기요양노인의 복지용구 이용만족도 비교와 개선방안)

  • This research is focused on improvement of satisfaction of the assistive products, which is used by long term care elderly people. We investigated 1,200 long-term cared elderly and this survey was conducted by care-giver. The average satisfaction of the assistive products are in convenience 3.43, in function and effectiveness 3.33, in safety and secure 3.29 and in adequacy cost compared to effectiveness 2.69. Total average satisfaction of utilization is 3.19. Satisfaction with the use of assistive products in using motivation does not show a statistically significant difference, but in selection factors is a difference to be statistically significant. In conclusion, expert-consulting should be enhanced for the improvement of satisfaction and the provision of assistive products should be expanded in long-term care insuance schemes. Also, the rational index and evaluation method of the satisfaction of the assistive products should be developed through continuous studies.

  • This study was to explore the meanings and follow-up tasks for enactment of Act on Supply and Utilization Promotion of Assistive Technology Devices for People with Disabilities and Seniors(Assistive Technology Act) in Korea. I conducted analysis about contents and establishment process of the Act. The study found meaningful effects ; it provided the basis for supporting assistive technology devices based on the social model, it led to an Implementation of the national obligations such as UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, it provided terms related to assistive technology. It is suggested to conduct follow-up studies and to put the efforts to strengthen additional laws for backing up the effective policy for extended support of assistive technology devices and for security of budget, for establishing regional service centers, for phasing of professional qualification, for controlling quality, for establishing an information system, and for promoting industries.

The Research of the Satisfaction and Current State with Repair Service of Assistive Technology Devices for the Disabled (장애인보조기구 수리서비스 현황 및 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the satisfaction with repair service of assistive technology devices for the disabled and the current state of the service, find the problems of the repair service, and to seek an effective development plan. This study had been conducted from July to October, 2015, with 750 disabled, and 280 completed questionnaires were returned and analyzed. Among assistive technology devices, the devices that required repair most were mobility devices. Repair was made mostly in purchase agencies and the repair institute. In the satisfaction survey, the causes for somewhat dissatisfaction were long repair time and complicated repair application and procedure. With regard to the central government's roles to active repair service for assistive technology devices, it was found that it was very necessary to expand the promotion of repair support business, come up with the criteria about repair support items and support amount, and establish the legal system to repair assistive technology devices. Therefore, in order to provide more effective and systematic repair service for assistive technology devices, it will be necessary to establish repairing process of assistive technology devices and standardization of costs that repair assistive technology devices.

The effects of assistive products in Korean long-term care insurance system for the beneficiary older adults (노인장기요양보험 등급인정자의 복지용구 이용효과)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of assistive products usage on activity of daily living for the beneficiary older adults people in Korean long-term care insurance system. The study subjects were divided to assistive products users and non-users among the beneficiary older adults based on Korean long-term care insurance system to compare function improvement of the activity of daily living. Methods : In national wide 12 community elderly care center enrolled the National Health Insurance Corporation, The numbers of 281 beneficiary older adults(long-term care Grade I: 66, Grade II: 58, Grade III: 157) participated in this study. This survey assessment tool for activity of daily living was used the long-term care assessment instrument of the physical functions in the law of Korean long-term care insurance. The function items of Activity of daily living were included in clothing, washing, tooth brushing, bathing, eating, posture converting, stand sitting, move sitting, out of room, using toilet, controlling of stool, controlling of urine, washing hair. According to independence to complete dependence functioning level, remarks pointed 1 to 3 points. The data were analyzed by chi-square, two-way anova using SPSS V. 12.0. Results : The results appeared that the mean score of the functions in activity of daily living of assistive products users was a 27.60, and that of non-users was a 30.66. Assistive products were not effected in Grade I and II recipients, but that effected in Grade III recipients. Conclusion : Preparing for activation of assistive products based Korean long-term care insurance system, the result application as follows is possible. The usage of assistive products could improve the function of daily living activity in older adults. Related to Grade III beneficiary elderly people were improved function in activity of daily living by using assistive products, it is necessary to extend coverage the non-eligible elderly people in Korean long-term care insurance system.
